Impressive video, RunDreamAchieve. Looking forward to your next upload. I smashed that thumbs up button on your content. Keep up the fantastic work! Your insights on training duration for marathons are incredibly valuable. Have you considered how different terrain or altitude might impact the optimal buildup time for different athletes?

Thank you so much for the support KTRB. Yes, altitude and extreme heat will definitely challenge even the most prepared athlete but we can still manage it with proper recovery, nutrition, sleep, hydration etc. Appreciate your support and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Thats the tricky part. Peaking too early is a catch 22 😊. Working backwards helps not peak too early. I agree you were so fit when you smashed out that 54:50min 10mile...had you ran 4:00/km marathon that day... id say youd have dropped a sub 2:50 for sure 😊. Exciting to think that you were actually very fit 🎉 . Cheers

It would be great to hire a P.I. get your 2:19 training block logs 😂 Strava probably wasnt around then, ive only been using it for about 4 years tops.
But im sure god will have it on tape for you one day.
My last marathon was a 7 month build up, even though the race was far from perfect im happy with 7 months, but not sure i will always do that, it was more where the marathon fell and the last one finished.

You and me both brother. Yeah I think 6 months is tops. Sure, you can go further but make sure there are some breaks in there. You're doing awesome and am excited to hear about your first sub 3 in 2025. You have FAR too much motivation not to absolutely dominate that barrier in due time. It isn't going to be easy as few break that barrier but you will be one of those that do.

Nate I just ran 3:00:15 off of 45/week. Granted I was doing 2 Marathons/year for about 5 years. Including 2:59 last year. So I was in shape!! What do you think about a 10 week block? These longer blocks are killing me with boredom and lack of motivation.

Have huge respect for you to be dropping those types of times at 50+ James. I think 10 weeks could still work and for many runners it does. Its when we get past 6 months that things get sketchy for sure, too long of a block in my opinion. Wishing you continued success in 2025. Keep me (and this community) posted on your continual progress, impressive what you are doing man. I agree, long blocks 6-12 months? Hella crazy.

@ yes Nate I think I lost motivation for the CIM build. I surprised myself with 3:00:15 but I had coffee with Matt Fox and he said “all those miles in your legs might carry you to sub 3:00”. He wasn’t to far off. Let’s see what Boston brings

Ha! I was off one month with a respiratory virus and my first day on the trail today it felt like I had never trained before. 😒My HR was 30 BPM above normal for an EASY trail WALK. (10 miles with only 700' elevation gain/loss). It did not feel quite that bad if I had not been wearing the HR monitor but I felt faint 0.25 miles before I got back to the car. First time that's ever happened. By the time I got home I felt fine. Not sure if it was low blood sugar or low blood pressure. Looking it up the symptoms seem about the same. Blood sugar when I got home was 108 and ketones were 1.0

mannnnnn do I EVER here you John. It took me a full 12 months to run fast again after 11 years off. I'll be walking and jogging from here on out...time away certainly is helpful to heal but it isn't easy coming back after some time off for sure brother. I'm sure I am preaching to the choir here. Hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas and blessed 2025 my friend.

Curious how long it takes and what the process is to running one marathon per month (or two) if you're already at 30 miles a week for half a year. Staying 30 until the time opens up for this goal but I'm going to be conservative with it.
