- Selected scenes from "Fall Out," the final episode of The Prisoner, featuring "Dry Bones," a Dixieland-inspired take on the old spiritual "Dem Bones" recorded by the Four Lads in 1961. The song refers to Ezekiel 34, in which the prophet successfully prods a valley of long-dry bones to reanimate and form a fearsome army.

48's ramblings seem nonsensical, but they're not. 6 rebelled against the Village with his intellect, and 48 rebelled by refusing to acknowledge that authority at all. Dropping out completely. Confronting madness with madness. Quite, quite brilliant.

When I saw this as a kid, this show seemed strange. Now as a 60 year-old man it makes perfect sense given our society today.
In the end, although it seemed surreal, it was a very prophetic show. We’re all in the Village, now. Be seeing you.

Holy cow, I never realized how well Reboot parodied this series in the episode "Number 7". I of course recognized the bubble thing, and the masked jury, but Hack and Slash coming up on the elevators singing "Dry Bones" makes a lot more sense lol.
Number 48 was right. what a crazy scene that is.

That's fascinating about what the Dry Bones song by The Four Lads is referring to. I never really quite noticed that 'till now. Perhaps it would've been fitting for there to have been an army of reassembled & reanimated skeletons wearing those spooky,gemini ghost costumes in this wacky episode. It's hilarious and rousing how crazy everybody who are dressed in the gemini ghost costumes act when No 48 sings Dry Bones and then moments later, when the actual song is played over the loud speakers.

You forgot when they were dancing in the truck on the way to London. Also, i prefer the Beetles,all you need is love when they were shooting up the place towards the end,seems appropriate somehow.
There actually was an EP released in the late 80s that had "Dry Bones" and several Ron Grainer songs. May have been called The Ron Grainer EP. I have a burned copy of it. Very rare item.

Me too, I always thought that would be the big reveal. He's the only one in the Village who has no number badge, and always seems to know what's going on
But didn't we see Patrick McGoohan dressed up as another character wearing clothing saying "1" on it?
George Markstein, the script editor until he had a falling out with McGoohan, always implied that making the Butler #1 was the original idea. He preferred a more straightforward approach to the show, while McGoohan wanted to get more "out there."

And the song is about the dead coming back to life. That is what happens in this episode Number 6 and others escape and go back to living.
The music is from the Delta Boys band from 1940's.

Duke John the song is officially titled "Rag March," by Jack Arel. Mr. Arel was also responsible for "Welcome, Mr. Jones," a.k.a. The "Dreamy Party" music in episode A, B, & C. Both songs appeared on volume 2 of The Prisoner soundtrack albums released by Silva Screen Records in conjunction with The Prisoner Appreciation Society in the early 90s. All three volumes are long out of print but were thankfully reissued a few years back and you can get them on Amazon.

You have to watch the ENTIRE series over and over many times, and slowly you will come to understand it.
How many seasons was this show?
Only one season! 17 episodes back in 1967. Patrick McGoohan had a pretty clear creative vision for the series and initially intended the show to run for only 7 episodes or so. He received pressure from several production parties to make more episodes and it seems as though the 17 produced was likely some kind of compromise
According to The Prisoner Companion, ITC wanted two 13-episode seasons, and “Once Upon a Time” was to be the season one finale. But then things happened, they ended up doing 17 episodes, and “Once” got pushed to the end just before “Fall Out”.

I second that disagreement.
I first time I saw this part, my reaction was "what the hell is going on...."; not to mention the fact that I was disturbed by #48 because the actor playing him was the same one who played "The Kid" in that Western episode -- and that character was SO creepy and disturbing because he never talked and came off as a convincing psychopath. Seeing the same creepy actor here (in a different role) talking and singing "Dry Bones" had me scratching my head.
But every time I've re-watched this episode, this has to be my favorite part. The way everyone in their robes and masks -- and even "The President" -- join in and sing and clap is hilarious. Made me like the song (which before this, I had no feeling about one way or the other).
