    I’d love to see them do a version of this one a foot or two longer for two reasons: 1) gotta have a 60 x 80 true queen bed. 2) prefer tandem axle for safety - if you get a tire failure while in transit, your going to appreciate having another tire holding up that side especially if you’re on an 7-10% downhill grade in the mountains. A third bonus on the tandem axle should allow more cargo capacity- but need to emphasize- please keep the hitch light! This trailer’s market will be people with average half ton trucks.

      Thing is, many people think a tandem axle gives you run flat redundancy, but it doesn't. A leaf spring suspension will drop the rim of the flat on the ground anyways. Only a dually tire or rubber torsion suspension will work as you describe. Plus twice the tires means twice the chance of flats, etc. I just prefer to run heavy duty spec tires and you keep them within proper age, and you'll reduce your chances of a flat very significantly.

      @@scubasteve7946 a guy could alway install a limiting strap or even ratchet strap in a pinch the keep the spring from decompressing all the way.

    • @scubasteve7946
      @scubasteve7946 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@aarronwoods6389 in theory yes, but in reality there is nothing above the axle to hook a chain or strap on. Maybe a flatbed trailer with a more open frame perhaps.
      In reality a spare tire can be changed quicker.
      With tandems, I have found about 90% of the time the front tire flips up the nail and the back tire catches it 🤣. Very seldom do I get the puncture in the front tire. But by going to a better 12 ply tire, it will all but eliminate those issues.

    Josh: There’s definitely a lot going for this RV. Absolutely love the no slide out design. The private bedroom is a real plus. But there are two considerations, in my opinion, that Salem Wildwood should re-examine. The first is making a version that has a 60 x 80 true queen bed. The second is a tandem axle trailer. A tandem axle adds safety and increased cargo capacity. Without both of these two things, there’s no sale to wife and I. Respectfully, W.S.

    Amazing windows, large fridge and huge tanks for a single axle trailer. I would only need another seating option other than the dinette. Trust me on this, if you've EVER owned an RV where your only sitting/lounging option is atop a thin dinette seat cushion that flattens out to nothing in 30 minutes; you'll know what I'm talking about.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd

      @embershapiro9205 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just a thought: You can always upgrade the cushions. I would make oversized zipper cases and stuff extra blankets in them. It adds padding, easily removed to wash, and stores extra blankets/pillows! I work from a laptop, so I definitely agree with you about extra padding, but I love the versatility of a u-dinette for extra prep/work/craft space, seating capacity and positions (I prefer to sit yoga style, but my other half needs to lie down to relieve back pain...so this option gives us room to do that and still be together), and sleeping space if necessary. The swivel table is a nice feature, too.

    This model would be awesome with a couple modifications. Change the sink to a rectangular sink. Change the dinette from a U-dinette to an L-dinette and run the kitchen counter and under counter cabinets down the left side of the camper. Add the front windshield. The extra counter isn't exactly needed but the under counter kitchen storage is needed because there is very little storage for dishes, utensils, drinkware, cookware, and food. These changes would make it perfect for my wife and I. It would be a really nice couples camper.

    Wish the drawers were under the sink and there was a stove with oven with a pots & pans drawer under it. That space left in the corner could be great for garbage & recycling bins. Too bad the cargo capacity is tight but it's a great concept. Rear bedrooms make more sense to me cuz you wouldn't hear as much "street" noise. Probably minimal but every little bit helps.

But on the quest of solo camper with room for my dad to crash for a race weekend this one checks most boxes, separate sleeping areas, bathroom that can be accessed from either side, central air.

    I have a similar setup with my Vista Cruiser 19ERD so it's good to see another mfg make this. This would create a nice open feel gathering/eating area.

    This one is soooo close to the perfect layout! I'd love to see this in a slightly longer version (around 25' max overall) with dual axles. Love the rear bedroom!! You can sleep away from the street side and enjoy the view of your site better. A standard queen would be great but I'd be willing to sacrifice if they adjusted the living area a bit. It would be amazing if, instead of the U dinette, they put a breakfast bar/desk on the camp side to the right of the door as you go in and a theater seat on the opposite side to really make that living space awesome. They'd have to move the junk in the trunk storage. But that would be a small sacrifice. A little overhead storage in that area or at least some sort of tall cabinet/pantry would really round it out. Being able to sit and work or enjoy your morning coffee and look out at your campsite in the morning would be so great. A front windshield would definitely make that front space feel more open as well but not a deal breaker. I agree about putting a square sink in that same spot instead of a round one. Keep the faucet where it is. Lose the outside griddle. With these changes it would be perfect and I'd be getting on the wait list to buy it.

    Great review!! Keep up the great work educating buyers. I love your reviews and new owner vids!! I've owned my '23 FR Salem 161QKX for the last 7 months and love it. I tow it around easily with my Honda Ridgeline (and so you're correct that a Tacoma, Colorado, or medium SUV with the right package should have no problem). No issues with the round kitchen sink (and it actually makes tucking a small Keurig in the corner easier. One concern is the bathroom sink -- it's way too small and shallow resulting in water spills water all around the counter (even when being really careful). The U-shaped dinette/rotating tabletop serves as an excellent remote work space by day and dining / poker table at night. Storage is MORE than adequate. I keep the camper at my hunt lease and keep my fishing gear, extension cords, and water hoses in the forward storage space. In the back storage area, I store pop up blinds, shooting sticks, tripod hunting chairs, bags of charcoal, starter logs, with room to spare.

    My 2 cents. Have a windshield in the front cap. Then the dinette is perfect. I like the bed in the rear. Less street noise.

  • @scoutingamerica1910
    @scoutingamerica1910 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes! to window in cap over dinette. Just add a dual axle to solve your Cargo Capacity. This is not a small length trailer! (in my opinion). Add one more vent to the bedroom for 2 circular vents. Move the outside grill to over the tire, under the awning (add that bar to the outside, that it can hook on) where it currently is, you’ll keep getting hit by the door, & your might be standing in the sun when cooking! This would also give you a true pass-through. Love the kitchen! Love the bathroom/shower!

    Love this floor plan. Don't need the single Axel or the dinette. But I love the direction. I'd love this more beefed up in a 3 to "4" season camper. With a couch/ loveseat option instead of a dinette. But I'm excited for a small camper with a private room. Keep'em coming!

    It looks like a nice design, but it's funny you mentioned that the toilet was out of sight. It's actually reflecting off of the refrigerator door on several shots. I wondered why you didn't close the bathroom door, lol.
    I think they should have modeled it after the lazy days 27 Midbath. A swinging door on the kitchen side that would close off the toilet from view yet leave a hall open to the bedroom. Swing the door the other way to connect with the shower wall for a private shower.

    I really like this one compared to the 169RSKX slide-out model. Something about the 161QK's bedroom layout really does it for me.
    If it was 4'-ish longer with dual axle, it'd be a head to head contender with the 171RBXL. I think the 171's shoulda had a bathroom sliding barn door as well. Its not often you see bathroom doors go all the way to the floor, they did this one right.
    The single axle is a deal breaker, thus the 171 wins out. The 161 would be amazing with a front windshield!!!
    Super nice rig, I really like it!. I'll give it a walk through before signing up for the 171. Good dinette seating vs dual axle and big bathroom though, that's a tough one. Thanks for the vid!
