What they don't say is that if you own gold and it does skyrocket, your net worth will not increase, your buying power will stay the same i.e. with that gold you'll be able to buy the same amount of bread, meat, etc. The dollar won't be able to buy anything, pensions, salaries and savings will be wiped out.

In your 2008 video you said that it feels like 2013-15 for the peak. We are 2014 and silver is below 20$ ! We cant own gold cause they will take it. We cant have money in the bank because of bail ins. The only thing we can put money in is our house but there are penalties for paying down too much on the principle. Ugh this is so frustrating.
I hold a little physical, but only as part of an insurance policy against the total collapse of fiat currencies. Before you do any kind of investing though, best to ensure you are debt free would be my advice.
In principle I agree, the irony is it is impossible by design of the current monetary system for young people to get out of debt before this shift will happen. If it will collapse, just take as much debt from the bank and invest in physical, go bust with the system and convert the gold and pay off the debt in whichever new unit of measure these crazy governments dream up. Personally, I believe in Bitcoin more than gold and silver but I do invest in all three.
Dawie Poolman Bitcoin is an interesting concept, I'm on the fence so to speak and have heard great arguments for and against it. What is without doubt though is we live in interesting times!. Regarding young people and debt, I'm not so sure, I think, as always, it comes down to the individual and how they approach money. I have no doubt the currency (and a lot more) is going to collapse. The big question is when. It could be this year, or the central planners could be able to kick the can down the road another year, 5 years, 10 years. I like Mike Maloney. He's a proper capitalist and, therefore, honest about the fact that he want's a good living, and he does so by providing value. Imagine a financial system that was properly regulated so honesty was compelled, we'd be in a different world.

Let get to the basic. The purpose of money is to acquire products and services these ones are limited so money must be limited that why only gold and silver qualify as money its divisible, fungible , does not damage over the time and its rare. Paper replaced gold and silver but does not meet the limited criteria and causes inflation an illness that kills the economy over the time up to total death and that the stage we are right now. Eventually all paper money will fall and everything above earth most be valued in gold and silver again but like there is so less Gold and Silver it will increase its value exponentially.
A deflationary collapse is now happening and is preceding any potential hyperinflation. Asset values will be wiped out by fast deflationary event - this will break the currencies AND take down values of everything including gold / silver temporarily but when the monetary system is "reset" it will have to be pegged back to gold again to have any chance of working - this is the part of the cycle when the wealth transfer will occur back to metal holders. Other commodities will also likely benefit but only precious metals are "money" and are most likely to be free from taxation or regulation. It is not possible to tax "money" but you can tax property. An increase in wealth can also be taxed so it is important to insure that your precious metals are in your custody and that the transactions to acquire should have as little paper trail as possible. This is going to be an unpleasant, bumpy ride.

I like gold and silver, it's shiny. I would have some for barter or trade but not as an investment. Metals should be bought low and sold high. The US dollar is 'fiat' and not really worth anything except to those who trade it for something else. People cannot eat paper or metal. My investment is in me and my education to survive each day. Gardening, harvesting, canning, preserving, dehydrating is a start. Learning a trade that is useful. Construction, plumbing, water conservation and purification, hunting, knowing plants around me. Jewelry making, pottery, metal works anything to help yourself and others. Saving heirloom seeds for food. Food is what we run on, water is what we must have. Gold is just a shiny.

I'm trying to figure this out, and I think the collapse will be in areas like goods (products disappear), services (wages collapse), pension plans and debt (default), stock and bond values (drop). And 1s and zeros in the bank are backed by FDIC to a point. Now in this scenario physical dollars might just become more valuable due to the wiping out of those computer dollars. I think the system can't handle any more inflation, so when the rest of the world says enough is enough, the US will see a burst of short term inflation then the collapse. O what the hell do I know.

I like Mike Maloney. He's a proper capitalist and, therefore, honest about the fact that he want's a good living, and he does so by providing value. Imagine a financial system that was properly regulated so honesty was compelled, we'd be in a different world.
So if the dollar collapses, won't equities rise also? And real estate? And anything also valued in fiat currency. Why will the wealth redistribution of "rebalancing" be exclusive to gold and silver holders?
Let get to the basic. The purpose of money is to acquire products and services these ones are limited so money must be limited that why only gold and silver qualify as money its divisible, fungible , does not damage over the time and its rare. Paper replaced gold and silver but does not meet the limited criteria and causes inflation an illness that kills the economy over the time up to total death and that the stage we are right now. Eventually all paper money will fall and everything above earth most be valued in gold and silver again but like there is so less Gold and Silver it will increase its value exponentially.
A deflationary collapse is now happening and is preceding any potential hyperinflation. Asset values will be wiped out by fast deflationary event - this will break the currencies AND take down values of everything including gold / silver temporarily but when the monetary system is "reset" it will have to be pegged back to gold again to have any chance of working - this is the part of the cycle when the wealth transfer will occur back to metal holders. Other commodities will also likely benefit but only precious metals are "money" and are most likely to be free from taxation or regulation. It is not possible to tax "money" but you can tax property. An increase in wealth can also be taxed so it is important to insure that your precious metals are in your custody and that the transactions to acquire should have as little paper trail as possible. This is going to be an unpleasant, bumpy ride.

You want to be prepared? Buy a house, buy a farm, buy a hotel, buy a cow, buy a bunch of hens, learn new skills, found a company, etc.... As long as you are able to create value, you'll be OK. In your hypothetical doomsday future where the dollar has crashed and it's worth nothing, people will come to your hotel to stay overnight, they will need milk from your cow, they will ask you to help them out using your freshly acquired skill, they will hire your company etc.. Instead of charging them in dollars, charge them in whatever the new currency is (G&S).

I like gold and silver, it's shiny. I would have some for barter or trade but not as an investment. Metals should be bought low and sold high. The US dollar is 'fiat' and not really worth anything except to those who trade it for something else. People cannot eat paper or metal. My investment is in me and my education to survive each day. Gardening, harvesting, canning, preserving, dehydrating is a start. Learning a trade that is useful. Construction, plumbing, water conservation and purification, hunting, knowing plants around me. Jewelry making, pottery, metal works anything to help yourself and others. Saving heirloom seeds for food. Food is what we run on, water is what we must have. Gold is just a shiny.

I'm trying to figure this out, and I think the collapse will be in areas like goods (products disappear), services (wages collapse), pension plans and debt (default), stock and bond values (drop).
And 1s and zeros in the bank are backed by FDIC to a point.
Now in this scenario physical dollars might just become more valuable due to the wiping out of those computer dollars.
I think the system can't handle any more inflation, so when the rest of the world says enough is enough, the US will see a burst of short term inflation then the collapse.
