And in some narrow bottlenecks like in this video, i saw that they installed traffic lights so it wasn't that big of a pain to go trough.
I rode the bus along the Amalfi coast in 1966 when I was about 7. There was less traffic then so the bus could probably go faster. I remember we sat right at the back and when the bus had to back up we were over the cliff edge sometimes.
For americans that are mocking Italian roads, think that they were built probably more then One hundred years ago when the traffic was not that of nowadays with different types of means, carriages probably. The territory doesn't permit to built larger roads otherwise It would be devastated (there Is a Law protecting the landscapes in Italy).
I drove down that hill down to the amalfi and it was mental, the way the buses come around is crazy and I’m proud I kept my nerve and didn’t fly off the cliffs 😂
The west coast of Mallorca and I think Gran Canaria is like that. They like to give a good loud honk before attempting a bend and it's like a 80m drop to the ocean.
I know it may be a silly question: what if busses were prohibited on that road. The bus companies would be forced to use vans that saves 2 feet of width. But one bus would have to be replaced with 4 vans for the same number of passengers. The plus side is that 3 more drivers would have to be hired, reducing unemployment. Everybody would be less stressed and more people would take the vans instead of scooters. Win, win, win!
I experienced this it was awesome and even with the passengers especially old ones they all speak and laugh with eachother like they are friends , Italians are awesome
It's funny the lady who is speaking in background because when the bus drive said "you are an idiot" to car drive (red Panda), the car drive reply to bus drive "you are idiot!" and the lady comments "Look...the cow that says to the donkey you has big horn"🤣🤣🤣
i was at the amalfi coast with my own german car 3 weeks ago... i never encountered these kind of problems. i got through with no problem and there were no traffic jams despite quite a few cars driving on that road. i guess i was lucky.
Childhood memories of events like this on holiday would have led me to believe that this sort of contretemps was the biggest troublesome thing of the day in the region, and that basically the rest of the world was doing alright. How innocently we saw the world as kids!
We were on one of these buses on the Amalfi coast two weeks ago. The skill and patience that these bus drivers have is astounding, and just to think they have to go through this every day. The rule seemed to be that the bus will never reverse, the other vehicle always has to. We were so impressed and grateful to our driver that we actually gave him a tip at the end of the journey, something I have never thought to do before 😂
Maybe just maybe they should start using vans instead of these large buses? Welcome to Italy, the yelling at each other had me rolling and that woman complaining in Italian from what I could make out had me in tears!
Same goes for the narrow country lanes in Cornwall, northern Europe. Too many cars & nowhere near enough scooters & motorbikes! Have had to do similar work as the temporary traffic director because the double decker bus I was innocently travelling on would still be stuck there with dozens and dozens of cars & their hapless tourist drivers both in front & behind us. I filled a fairly large field with those vehicles who were in front of us!! I have to say I enjoyed the power! Ha! Ha! Was difficult keeping a straight face!!

Sensorized trafic lights in combination with normal signs and basic knowledge. Uphill has always priority. Downhill needs to give right to uphill. Narrow sections need to prioritize vehicles that dont obstruct their side. The sides that get obstructed need to give priority to upcoming trafic + 360 degree mirrors installed at corners to get a better view at this section.
It's all fine, but big vehicles should be banned on these roads to make everyone's life easier. They should divide the tourists in mini buses or something.
Was on a bus like that a few months ago and it blows my mind that such narrow roads are two-way. Apparently there can be hour long stops if a bus gets stuck in a situation like this, there's kilometer long queues in both directions and no one can reverse.
In Ireland tour buses on the Ring of Kerry go one way to avoid a bus on bus situation, but that is not possible on the Amalfi Coast where geography dictates there is only one way in both directions.
@@The_Red_Squirrel I don't see why that wouldn't be possible to be honest with you. If it was up to me I'd just get rid of the buses altogether and replace them with minivans though.
as one Italian commenter said it wisely: close the road for bigger vehicles or put on a traffic light 🚦! simple as that! no need for special driving skills just plain common sense!😉😂😂
Yeah imo they shouldn't be allowed to bring busses on roads where they clearly can't use and share the road like normal road users. I think it just creates too many issues. Need some way to bring all the big juicy fat tourists into your town to squeeze all their money out of them.
If it is impossible to expand the road on that road, it would be helpful to drive safely and relieve driver stress by setting a time interval of about 10 minutes and making one-way roads alternately going and returning.
When I visited the Amalfi years ago, I noticed that many walls by the road had swirl-marks cut into them quite low down - I wasn't sure what they were at first, and then I realised - marks from the lug-nuts of the front wheels of buses and trucks...

I can totally understand those cars here, imagine, you are leaving peacefully in a small village and one day (and from that on more and more) suddenly busses come, that are blocking the whole road and you cant just drive normally anymore, you always have to watch out for those 30t steel elephants, that are technically not even allowed on those streets. If you are wider than 50% of a street, you need a special permit to drive on it. I doubt, anyone in Italia does this. Where I live, I have a pretty small street in front of my neighbourhood aswell, where hardly 2 cars fit next to each other (after that, both only have like 5-10cm to the curbs and between each other). Often people use this street as shortcut between two small villages, because they don't want to use the street, which was build originally for exactly this for busses and lorrys/trucks. Their road would mean a detour of maybe 5km at max. Long story, short: I have absolutely no problem on this street of taking my right of way and forcing them to go back and let me pass. Respect is not a one way street and neither is this one, where I live. If you are forbiddenly driving on it (doesen't mean, its intentionally), you have to give right of way. That's what the street code says and I expect it as moral code, too! If we would live in a world, where the biggest and strongest can just do whatever he wants with violence, then we would be back in stone age. I don't accept this for me personally. I am not a citizen of a lower class...

I rode the bus along the Amalfi coast in 1966 when I was about 7. There was less traffic then so the bus could probably go faster. I remember we sat right at the back and when the bus had to back up we were over the cliff edge sometimes.
Is it just me or anyone else listen 2:05-2:25 on repeat dozen of times because it sounds so good to the ear. xD
One hundred? Or one thousand? Or 2 thousands, like the roman's roads? ;)
I drove down that hill down to the amalfi and it was mental, the way the buses come around is crazy and I’m proud I kept my nerve and didn’t fly off the cliffs 😂
Yes, I was amazed about the driving. We were sitting in the front, and sometimes I thought we would have a head-on crash.
The west coast of Mallorca and I think Gran Canaria is like that. They like to give a good loud honk before attempting a bend and it's like a 80m drop to the ocean.
wow!! This is counterproductive. Just blast the mountain side and make the road wider.
👏👏👏👏👏

Good job, thanks, amazing. Greetings from Germany!

I just remembered Kramer when he argued about buying Calzones with only coins 😆
I love calzones, especially the ones in Germany.
I experienced this it was awesome and even with the passengers especially old ones they all speak and laugh with eachother like they are friends , Italians are awesome
So beacause of this all italians are aqespme!
'Italians are awesome'
You clearly didn't drive yourself. Try it for a few weeks, it's....'''awesome'''
I'm an automotive fan from Indonesia who is also an automotive youtuber, especially buses from Indonesia.. I'm very happy to see your content..
Thank you. Seeing that made me think I'm happy we didn't rent a car there. The bus drivers are amazing at what they do.
I'm learning to drive now, this would be my nightmare in every single situation, bus or car.
This can be a nightmare even for an experienced driver
The best part: The Italians arguing, man my family right there!
The reversing skills of every driver in Italy seem better than the idiots we have in America.
Childhood memories of events like this on holiday would have led me to believe that this sort of contretemps was the biggest troublesome thing of the day in the region, and that basically the rest of the world was doing alright. How innocently we saw the world as kids!
Great upload ❤
We were on one of these buses on the Amalfi coast two weeks ago. The skill and patience that these bus drivers have is astounding, and just to think they have to go through this every day. The rule seemed to be that the bus will never reverse, the other vehicle always has to. We were so impressed and grateful to our driver that we actually gave him a tip at the end of the journey, something I have never thought to do before 😂
In Poland, bus drivers are not legaly allowed to reverse without another person giving them directions. I guess there are similar laws in Italy
@@PKua007 well that makes sense, bus can crush a dozen people and nobody inside will even notice
@@Je_QzcY3mN0 Most definitely
I got this coach once while staying in Rivello - all I can remember was the heat though - too young to appreciate the coach driving tenacity…
All i heard was "A A O O A O A A O O".... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Maybe just maybe they should start using vans instead of these large buses? Welcome to Italy, the yelling at each other had me rolling and that woman complaining in Italian from what I could make out had me in tears!
This is how I imagine drivers in Italy in general :) :D But seriously the bus driver is very experienced
Ha-ha! Love Italy)
I really think that little two way road should require the installation of traffic lights
15 km full of lights 😂😂
They will need a lot of traffic lights
@@Adrian-vz8ik ofcourse not, I saw a gentleman comments saying that a it's an 15 kms roads, lusten up, as italie is an European country, it can at least a 30 traffic lights just over this stressful road, to providing better services to road users, there

This is exactly what i remember when thinking about driving down the coast of Amalfi back in 2014
I live in a mountainous region and here the drivers be driving busses of 10m or longer in narrow roads within centimeters to ditches

It's almost like driving in downtown Vancouver!
😂🤣🥳🍻✌️🇨🇦
What?! No way, I drove there for two weeks and it was bliss compared to Toronto lol
Just so that you do not get a wrong idea: in Italy we have 5-lanes highways too. This is an unusually narrow street in a "postcard" city.
Ah, was afraid to visit Italy for a second
Everyone ruining their countries with 5 lane highways and millions of cars, it's a shame.
nah the road infrastructure in the south is much more accurately represented by this video than by 5 lane highways
I don't know why but when i watch this video I have Dean Martin's that's amore playing in my head at the same time
Imagine living in a house that if you step one foot out the door you may be ran over lol

In Croatia this is not a problem, because they scratch each others cars and dont stop 🤣
as one Italian commenter said it wisely: close the road for bigger vehicles or put on a traffic light 🚦! simple as that! no need for special driving skills just plain common sense!😉😂😂
Yeah imo they shouldn't be allowed to bring busses on roads where they clearly can't use and share the road like normal road users. I think it just creates too many issues. Need some way to bring all the big juicy fat tourists into your town to squeeze all their money out of them.
so it’s a tourist attraction than?😂😂😂 in that case they should keep it!😉
Hey beautiful ride you can see that pro.I am with you regards..
I can say my heart was in my hands the all time
If it is impossible to expand the road on that road, it would be helpful to drive safely and relieve driver stress by setting a time interval of about 10 minutes and making one-way roads alternately going and returning.
They are not yelling at each other, just exchanging pizza recipes.
The Italians, industrious and fiery as always
the accent .. the accent kills me every time.
When I visited the Amalfi years ago, I noticed that many walls by the road had swirl-marks cut into them quite low down - I wasn't sure what they were at first, and then I realised - marks from the lug-nuts of the front wheels of buses and trucks...
Semaforo senso unico alternato

😂😂😂😂😂
