    Y do I find it satisfying when kalvin puts stuff back together

    If you put the cams in with the everything lined up, then rotated the motor and put it back at TDC, the marks on your chain will not align back up. It could take 200+ rotations for the chain to line back up with the marks on the gears

    • @KalvinMalli
      @KalvinMalli  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Didn't do that

      Kalvins Garage as long as you’re at TDC and your cam marks are where they are suppose to be you are good to go! 👌🏻

    I actually pulled the head off my KA the other day and mine had the same thing. I think the last cylinder has the coolant ports because in setups like that the last cylinders are known for failing on all in line setups

    I'm wondering why they would block off coolant passages...maybe KAs cool too well?

    • @magnetic0314
      @magnetic0314 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cameron Lancaster could be. They are quite large passages, and remember the engine was also used on trucks, where cooling is perhaps more of an issue

    The goo might be tread locker mixed with oil and gasket maker , saw it all time time at the spares shop use to work at.

    It’s an auto fly wheels get a blind hole bearing puller to get the auto pilot bushing out its a pain

    They only have back ones so it coolant goes through all on then then just the front and over heat

    Cam timing is good, the flywheel is for an auto trans

    Those coolant holes are blocked in the front to force more coolant to the back of the engine.

    Usually the assembly lubricant fastener is used. Then after making the tightening torque, it unscrews itself from the beginning

    I’m pretty sure both cam lobes should point up slightly. The upper chain should have two colored links that line up with marks on the cam sprockets.

  • @Skrenseland
    @Skrenseland 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    im thinking the front of the engine stays cooler because of airflow in speed + fans. and more heat in the rear of the bay. gets less heat. and also exhaust runs next to the block. so they wanna keep even heat throughout the engine to get the same afr's and such for each sylinder. just guessing

  • @jessekesler8376
    @jessekesler8376 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The Goo that you're talking about is most likely Indian head glue. You use it on headbolts when the head bolt goes through a water jacket. Then again I don't mess with Ka's only rb so I wouldn't know if the headbolts on these go through the water jacket or not.

  • @brennonharmon9548
    @brennonharmon9548 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The gasket is like that so that the coolant flows through the entire block before returning back through the head

  • @magnetic0314
    @magnetic0314 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yo, I'm guessing the head gasket blocks off those particular water galleys to keep even cooling. On later model miatas, they blocked off some of the front galleys to direct more coolant to the back of the block. Could be a similar reason on this block

    Cam timing is advance, by about 1 tooth each or 10 degrees. Motor will idle smooth and have a mountain of low end torque but high rpm power will be lost. You'll feel when he runs it pass 5000rpm. Coolant passages a purposely designed to run coolant through the entire Motor, if all of your passages were open then you'd have a lot of cavitation issues.

    Not a flywheel, called a flex plate or ring gear for auto trans mate

  • @seikoja
    @seikoja 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Na u gotta check Nissan for an oem gasket....either that or the year is wrong.....the head and block has the same passage for coolant why would it be designed to block it?....no wonder why Nissans run hot lol

    • @anasamla
      @anasamla 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      J32 Seiko lol no... if you open the coolant passages for cylinder 1 the coolant only goes to cylinder 1 and then back into the cooling system and the rest of the motor runs hot. Coolant flows into block to #4, up the head and back to the Front, out of the intake manifold into the radiator. The reason the ka feels hot is because the heater hoses are physically attached to the intake manifold along with throttle body coolant lines and the hot coolant exiting from the intake manifold into the rad. That is a lot of heat soak.
