Great review! Godzilla 1954 is my number one favorite Goji film. Even as a child I still felt the dark, grim vibe that wasn't totally eclipsed in the inferior yet decent American/Burr cut
In regards to the 56 version with Burr.....He was Hugely popular to US audiences for Rear Window, Perry Mason (especially), and Ironside...aside from various advertisements he made as well. Godzilla was merely a footnote, in regards to his screen persona, for most people who were either not in to horror/sci Fi at the time, or knew he was in it , but regarded it as one of his B films he did to stay a working actor (he did a few before and after Rear Window, but not too many. Now if course...I knew him from Godzilla, and that is why I liked him as an actor. I was a 7byear old obsessed with Kaiju. But, to be fair, MOST people born, or alive, prior to the ...say early 2000s Kaiju revival... really saw Burr as Perry Mason. That's what got him in the door. Godzilla was sort of an afterthought once people started seeing the film on TV in the 60s and 70s. Sure ...he was then associated with Godzilla by then. But ask any Boomer, Boomer's parents, or ...Hell...possibly Millennial, who Burr was, and 9 times out of 10.they would say Perry Mason....then Godzilla. Christ, even Perry Mason's theme is incredibly iconic to those people. Again....I'm speaking more about my parents perspective. I, and of course most of Kaiju fans, think of him as Steve Martin first. I'm just saying that I wouldn't necessarily overlook his association with his extremely popular tv shows. Now, however, is a different story. In regards to his acting in Godzilla KOTM, and Godzilla 1985, I'm definitely going to have to disagree. I think he did an amazing job for what the project called for. His acting chops there were comparable to when he was in Perry Mason, in my opinion. Very convincing. I almost like KOTM as much as I do Gojira 1954. Almost, hahaha. Great video, btw. Sorry for the ramble.
The human characters in this movie were real people you could relate to, and sympathize with for the horrors they are going through. The only movie in all the franchise that had better written human characters was GODZILLA MINUS ONE. I consider that one the true, and only sequel to GOJIRA. E.T.A. I like the Legendary MonsterVerse films, but, I don't rank them, or even compare them with the Toho films, as, they are totally separate universes and continuities. And, I don't count the 1998 monstrosity, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA IGUANA at all, us it is NOT, and will never be a GODZILLA movie as far as I'm concerned.
@@claymationgloves3662 I feel stupid. I forgot that, just like SHIN, it was a total remake. In my defense, let me just say that I had not eaten in 48 hours because I had a little too much month left at the end of the paycheck, but my check did come in an hour after I posted, and went to the IHOP next door and grabbed some grub. Also in my defense, I'm an idiot.
Well put together retrospective. Looking forward to the rest of the series. All Monsters Attack/ Godzilla's Revenge in particular as I feel that movie, while still the worst in the franchise, get's more hate than it deserves as aside from Godzilla vs Hedorah and Gojira it has the strongest allegory that is even more relevant in today's society
Great video. Being a huge Godzilla fan, I found it to be very informative. The only thing different that I would mention is that Raymond Burr was a VERY famous actor
Gojira 1954 was much darker and very iconic
It just darker for real

I like it for its cheesy spirit and Burrs acting though I do think gojira is superior overall
He was on set for one day and did it great in my opinion
I never said he did a bad job. I outright say he did the best with what he’s given.
Dr. Yamane is the Miki Segusa of 1954.
Godzilla was just a cool monster film to me as a kid. Only later on life can you understand its meaning.

Why are you so against the idea of Godzilla being fun?
Minus one being a sequel to the og film makes no sense. It was more like a remake tbh
@@drhotbananastud4242 that's what I'm saying bro

Three days later America said, “did I stutter?”
Introspective Video
Raymond Burr was actually Canadian. Also, they didn't remove any of Ifukube's score (thankfully) from the US cut.
