Taxes is going to be increased anyway. You’re going to pay taxes no matter what.

VOTE NO NO NO. If Proposition 5 is not stopped, property tax bills are likely to go up after every election, forever. Proposition 5 will raise the cost of living in California. VOTE NO ON PROPOSITION 5.

Property tax increases may place an unfair financial strain on property owners, particularly long-time residents or retirees. Higher taxes can make it harder for these groups to stay in their homes, leading to displacement. These kind of raises may discourage property ownership or investment. These taxes often fall heavily on local residents rather than spreading the cost across a wider tax base, which some see as unfair.
There is an alternative approach; cities and counties can work together with developers to incentivize them. Many experts argue that incentivizing developers is a better solution:
By streamlining approval processes, reducing fees, offering tax credits, and easing zoning restrictions, cities can attract developers to build affordable housing. These policies can lead to more housing without directly raising taxes.
A question we should all ask is: are increases in property tax (to pay back bonds) the right mechanism to raise money for affordable housing?

If it's a good idea then 2/3 of the people will easily agree. No on Prop 5! for the people!

So, they are going to raise my property tax so others can afford their housing? Im not a fan.

They would only raise it, if your county wanted to borrow money to fix schools, create new roads, parks, etc. Your county would still have to vote on it but instead of conniving 65% to agree you'd only have to convince 55%. Most people voting are rich would rather pocket profits than pay towards the county.

In the long run, this would make property more affordable for median income earners.

Every single measure increases spending and taxes. Why would I want that to be easier to pass?

What's so bad about more property tax when most people can't afford housing? Newsom is a genius. Maybe this will foreclose everyone and no one except the rich will own real estate.

I support the prop but am voting NO because of the unfairness of who would ACTUALLY pay for it; “borrowing would be repaid with higher property taxes”.
If it’d be paid for by both renters and property owners I’d totally say yes… It’s ironic because that tidbit is hurting prop 5’s chance at winning 😂

Higher property tax means higher rent too. The increase in cost will trickle down to them.

Must be nice when you have a house from when times we easier and less humans to occupy space. If only my family was smart would things be great for me too. Shame. Even so I'll go no since my vote don't matter on this against all those with houses.
