    Most people would have either left the mount uneven without ever checking to see why it was binding. The rest of the so called mechanics would have put a washer under the one mounting hole and said good. Both witch would over time break the new mount and the owner would be dealing with it again. This is what makes a true mechanic seeing finding and properly solving the problem keep up the good work.

      very true. the misalignment would be a problem too.

    Interesting, i never knew that about files, the bowing. Now I have to go check my files, and mark them. They never told us that in Machinist school back in the 80's. ALways learn something new with you . Thank you :-)

      you should have figured that one out for yourself. don't forget the twist. if it is too much you will have to straighten it or break the file trying too.

    Is the mount thick enough to TIG and re-machine without warping? Lots more work initially, but you won't have to juggle shims while getting the case together.
    Looking forward to seeing which way you correct for this misalignment.

      not worth all the time and money to fix it that way. neither is what i did. 3 washers is not too hard to install.

    Quick question Tatro.
    How would you break in a Ironhead with a new topend?
    I am leaning towards a first startup to check for leaks and if oil is flowing to all the right places. Letting it cool down.
    Go for a ride the next time I start it up. Accelerate and decelerate to seat the rings in, from 30mph to 50mph back and forth.
    What works for you?
    Thanks in advance.

      that will work but keep it cool. start off with a short ride around the block and then double the distance each time you ride it.

    No mill here. Shim with thrust washers?

    • @TatroMachine
      @TatroMachine  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      shiming will not fix the problem. the mount was machined at the wrong angle, not just an offset. the motor would not sit in the frame if you just shimmed it. the mount would break from the stress too.

    Why not fab up a steel motor mount?

    • @TatroMachine
      @TatroMachine  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that would be a very hard thing to make for this application. just buying another mount would have been the best option but then where would all the education be for the videos.
