48:45 I love you Maryjane
Também tocaram o Total Trash
Pay attention new musicians. This is where a lot of us come back to because these guys and gal were the real deal. They knew good music and pushed it so far, whether it be tunings, pedals, sounds and structure. Sy forever.
This is a terrible live show. Wtf are you talking about?
Thank you
You know Electric Fetus?
Best statement about SY. My fav band and part inspiration for my band. One of the funnest times of my life.
Exactly. Thank You Neil Young
One of the greatest bands ever in their prime. Superb playing and concert footage.
One of SY best concerts!
That Cotton Crown opener absolutely SLAAAAYS
I was thinking the same thing holy shiiiiit
Boathouse. Norfolk Va
Sonic Youth using Peavey 5150 EVH letter block and Mesa Boogie Mark (not sure what version) amps!!!! The most metal noise rock band ever! \m/
Noise is noise
5150 EVH rules !!!
This was a great concert (I was there). SY were a great band (like Jimi Hendrix, the Doors, Iggy Pop and some other performers) that tested the limits of rock 'n' roll to its extremes!
SY's control of dissonance is phenomenal...Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo complement each other so well..
eu tb la' estava :)
🤟🤟🤟🎶👌🏼
Bull in the heather´s lyrics were not ready in the time this video was shot! I so enjoy art under construction...
Love their Goo/Dirty years, so glad we finally get semi-official releases of shows from those years. Apparently they have a shit ton of show recording from their whole career so thank God we finally get some of em.
Yep. I personally think there’s an over-saturation of live recordings from their 80s _no wave_ era. I’ve been dying for some 90s era recordings.
@@curly-d23 I would honestly buy a Blu-ray boxset of all their live footage.
Interestingly, no Goo songs on the set list. Such a shame. It's a brilliant album. And bass heavy, unlike the others.
Always loved jet set
@@mercurialmagictrees blue-ray, maybe now the image is in conditions to be seen, normally recorded by a less lines VHS super hi-fi camera
I wish someone would have told me about this show when i was 1 years old.. Would have totally gone. Huge musical inspiration for me thank you for your music
I went to this show but i was 16 already 😄👌
It's not as easy as you think!?
I wish someone would have told me about this show when I was -2 years old.. Would have totally gone! Grateful by some chance I got stumble across the roots of the music I love today
@@joserobertodarochalourenco2195 I was 24 and didn't know who the Hell Sonic Youth was yet.
Thank you Steve and Thurston for your feedback during the stream

Greatest year in my life for rock concerts. I was in this one and one month before I had been in London for the Velvet Underground reunion........those were the days.....
these are the days my Friend...time just keep on passing but we are still alive!
Damn... I was 3 years old i could have gone
Whoever filmed this is genius. It looks amazing - the zooms are so rad
I saw Sonic Youth on a FreeJazzFestival, here in Brasil, Sean Lennon have been outshined by Sonic Youth, one of the best sonic experience live, Gigantic music influence to me. Greetings from Brasil, Peace, Love & health to all.
this film/concert is AMAZING!
It was an amazing day. I was 19 at the time. No mobile phones yet, no internet. I, Gilberto and his guitarist friend (Agostinho) of a local band (Popeye Pos Moderno?) from a village next to ours (S. João do Campo), we came down from Coimbra in an early morning train to get tickets to everybody, including my brothers-in-law who would drive to Lisbon later in the day, just in time for the concert, and would give us a lift back north at the end of it.
We met some Agostinho's friends (the sister of the vocalist of his band and her boyfriend?) who attended EBAL (Lisbon School of Fine Arts) at the time. I remember we had lunch at EBAL and that in the afternoon we spent a lot of time in the said boyfriend's room nearby. He was also a guitarist and had a very nice (Boss?) pedal board which he had gotten some months before in the USA. He had no amp though, so he showed us how it worked and the effects it had with headphones which we experimented in turns. Agostinho played a while also. Bottles of beer were being drank and joints of weed were being smoked. I got high from the beer and from breathing the enriched air in the small room. At some point a meeting was arranged with some dealer from the south side who would get acid to some of us. We walked down to Cais do Sodré and relaxed there for a while waiting for the dealer's boat to arrive. We then walked back up to Bairro Alto, I'm not sure where to exactly, nor what we did. Maybe we ate something at EBAL? At some point we noticed we had lost track of time and that if we were to get to Campo Pequeno in time for the concert we had to call a taxi, which we did. Still, we arrived late. My brothers-in-law were already there waiting for us. We missed most of the opening bands but got in in time to see everything of SY's performance that night. The video now released made me remember how I felt lucky for seeing them perform live a mix of songs that we all knew so well and many new great ones that would later come out in Experimental jet set.
I saw SY live 3 more times. In 98 at Sudoeste, together with Yo La Tengo, in 99 at Aula Magna and in 2010 at Coliseu de Lisboa.
thats amazing. i feel lucky too for the one time i saw them
@@realpolitics2151 actually, I saw them also at Coliseu de Lisboa in 2002. So I was lucky to attend 5 SY shows in total. :)

Amazing stage light work

Pure noise beautiful..................
I'm glad they widdled that part down in Bull in the Heather. My favorite band in their prime. I love it! Saw them 3 times.
Steve Shelley -so underrated
I completely agree. To me, both Steve and Budgie of Siouxsie & the Banshees/The Creatures are 2 of thee most incredible drummers whose band-mates not only owe a great deal of respect, but so do thee fans or even critics- both extremely talented, underrated and neither will probably ever receive thee actual kudos and respect they so truly deserve in this life-time. Oh, and they are both very, very nice people as I have met them both. Steve only for a moment but I have had an amazing (to me) stroke of luck whilst living in San Francisco for some 25 yERAs and got drunk more than a couple times with both Siouxsie and Budgie when thery started touring as The Creatures in 1999 thru 2004- I got to hold one of Budgie's HUGE Taiko drum sticks, closer to a baseball bat - I mean, those HUGE drums that they hang from the ceiling and beat to a whimper are just astonishing! I have a total thing for drums so I apologize as I sort of digressed. My best to ever-E-one. LovEternaL.
Agreed.
He barely seems to get a mention compared to the others.
What about Jimmy Chamberlain, of Smashing Pumpkins? He was pretty cool! And Dave Narciso, in Throwing Muses. There are loads of really great drummers. Noone cares about drummers. Never have. Never will. ✌️
@@christopherbrookfield4785 Sooo true Jimmy C., Stephen Perkins, And even Grohl plus Radiohead's Guys..so many other Solid drummers seldom mentioned..they r the newgen.if Bonhams, Peart,Pete Moon and Mitch Mitchell..so many .irw

Lovely show, beautiful music, great performance. Give it up for Moore, Shelley, Gordon, Ranaldo, Toral, Pinheiro, Feliciano!! 1993!!
I love you Sonic Youth
saw them in 1990 with redd kross opening at a very small venue called the great hall in toronto. my friend had a recording studio right above the hall they where they were playing and discovered a hole in the floor. so we dropped a mic down and recorded the show. didn't come out well as the accoustics weren't good. the show would later be stopped by the fire dept as they claimed the room was over capacity. very fun night. was actually down the hall from their dressing room but didn't bother the guys.
Quel kiff ! Quel talent ! SY à leur top.
Sozinho, dinheiro contadinho, de comboio, lá fui.. Épico!
Parabéns! Uma aventura sónica com 27 anos para contar!
Como foste, mereceste a benção 😉
Efectivamente foi épico, brutal e inesquecível.
Onde vd mora? No Brasil?
this band is beyond amazing
I was there. Time flies, memories don't.
One of the best gigs of my sad, sad life 😁😁😁
I feel the same way about Silver mt. Zion 2008 Baltimore. Peace.
I was there too. Hey. Also saw mt. Zion on there first time south of Montreal. I'm not apologizing for any of it. I love the life I've lived. I love the life you've lived too!
Time flies like an arrow, but fruit flies like a banana
32:40 wow that part sounds really good in this version
Woah yeah im kind of sad it doesnt sound like that on the record
yes, way better, double strike.
At 39 min, all I could think about was Jeffrey Dahmer.... ( PARTY HARDY ALL THE TIME)😂 I bet Jeffrey would have had a hard on hearing that song😅😂

Thanks for this amazing share. Priceless.

Whole production (camera work, superb) is immense, wish I could engineer for them, and play along. UK classic breaks n 56:48 electronic music and uk indie bands. Loved Sonic Youth them for 24 years. Great story tellers. Never see them perform unfortunatelyl. The message for me through the shifting consciousnesses of the darkness and all the heartaches, headaches, fear, betrayal, and confusion. Love playing their songs on bass
I was there!! Uma coisa do outro mundo!!!
Great men! You're so Lucky..

During my life there was a lot of things that i lost, and this concert was one of them, drugs talked higher
Cotton crown was the first song of SY I've heard in the 90s. It blew my mind, I wasn't ready )

Amazing I'm only up to about a quarter of the way I would suggest anybody that's likes sonic youth should watch this. lee's guitar is spot on and there is enough improv to make me want to compare them
to the Dead. They are the grateful dead of punk music.
this is so awesome
