- Mounting Wunderlich-style engine and saddlebag protection bars/guards to our 2020 BMW K1600 GT. Wunderich makes a wide range of products for BMW and more. We found these on Ebay for cheap! Will they fit? Will they protect the engine and saddlebags??

These bars took quite a bit of fiddling to make them fit, but in the end they came out quite nicely. I probably should have just bought them new from Wunderlich, but where would the fun be in THAT?!?

Hey Jeff, I had those bag bars on my 2012 GTL when I bought it a couple of months ago. I took my wife for a ride and the bars pushed on her calves so bad that they were bruised. Her feet was not comfortable on the pegs with them. I cut the bars and made them like the Ilium bars. I got a local company to bend some pipe I got and welded them up. Now the bags are protected and my wife is comfortable. Just sit on the back and see if you calves hit the bars. Great videos by the way. I enjoy the DYI ones.
Great tip! I did sit on the back, but I'm 6'3" so I didn't have an issue. Once I get the Russell Saddle switched over I'll have Laura sit on it and check for issues. Really good tip before we head out on some long trips this summer.
I agree about the look. I dont want it to look like my GS. Thanks for the information about the "almost fitting" Now I wont lose my mind when I get to that part.
It really isn't hard to figure out, and the difference in price was huge. Hope they protect as well if I dump it - and hope I never find out!
Bars look great. I've been looking at them on Wonderlish, so expensive. Probably next spring.
Do it. One tip over and you'll spend way more money than the bars. Enjoy!

Thanks for posting, Jay. I must have purchased the exact same kit - was not German engineering. The rear bars installed without a lot of difficulty. I was never able to get the front bars to install - required some machining to the bars themselves that I didn’t have the propers tools for.

Thanks for the video, but no on the bars. Takes away from the bikes great looks and its just too much in my opinion.
Personally I think they look ugly. Great protection though. As one of your subscribers pointed out, could be an issue regarding pillions legs catching on the bracket. 👍😁
Been thinking about the rear crash bars for my GTL. Do you feel they will hamper the comfort for a passenger? That is my only concern. Wish I could fine used. Not cheap from Wonderlish.
It really depends on the shape of your passenger. Some people hate them, others don't even know they're there. I bought mine on ebay, and they were less than $100.
