  • The worst part about playing the tuba is having the valves empty themselves all over your lap...

    Now get a little potted plant to keep underneath the outlet tube so you can make beautiful music while growing a small flower simultaneously

    A true tuba player is at peace with the fact that the tuba will pee on them. It’s just a part of life.

    ... proving conclusively that rotary valves are infinitely superior because they have no holes ... on the other hand you need at least three types of oil to keep them in shape.
    Thank you, Trent, for your videos. I hope you know and appreciate the happiness and joy you spread across the globe!!!

    Please stop reffering to them as "little nipples" it disgusts a deep part of me. But Ill definetly try this strategy and my Euph.

    In high school (over 50 years ago) had the same problem at football games where the spit valve used to leak when we were in the stands (marching it would just hit the ground.) In late fall when your pants would get wet, IT WAS COLD! Good solution!

    Sousaphones like to do this a lot. You can always ID us sousaphone players at the end of band rehearsal just by the big wet spot on our shirts.

    My euphonium leaks on me too. Spit, valve oil, you name it. Often looks like I peed myself because of where the spit valve is located.

    Yes folks, large brass instruments have nipples. Each tap in your house is connected to a wingback by a nipple. Older cars have grease nipples. Without nipples the whole world would cease to function. If you play 'fly me to the moon' the machine that takes you there will have many nipples too. Every man and woman in the world has at least two nipples. Some are purely decorative, others are dual purpose. There is no need to be offended by euphonium nipples of which there are four like many mammals. Woodwind players, of course also have two nipples each.

    Very ingenious Trent 😊
    When listing the reasons for the hole I am glad you didn't say it's for putting oil in lol
    I just made a modification to my Triumphonic BBb tuba especially for the Whit Friday March contests. I have back problems and was ready to pull out as I couldn't strap on the BBb without getting back pain. I solved it by making an adjustable leg that screws into a fitting on the bottom of my tuba and allows me to stand and play without having the weight of the BBb messing me up.
    It worked a bloody treat 😁

    Every tuba player finds it disgusting when they begin. After they take playing seriously they just dont care or just wipe it off with their sleeve. At least that's what ive found after 6 years of research (7th grade to 12th grade).

      MangoGod86 try marching tuba in a drum corps. Spit comes back out on you. It’s fucking hilarious when people see me covered in liquid and think it’s sweat. Little to they know...

    It was a pee tuba? Sometimes bandsmen must improvise. One night about 45 years ago we were out playing carols and we ran out of light. Next day I improvised a small light and battery on my lyre so I could see. I was teased about it. A couple of nights later we ran out of light again out in the country and I was asked to hold up my tiny light bulb so everybody could benefit from the light. Those that teased me then shut up.

    Dear Trent,
    First of all I would like to say that you enjoy your videos very much! Keep up the good work. Secondly, how do you feel about Olds trumpets? I own an Ambassador from the 70's, which I bought for around 300 dollars. It serves my very well in how it looks, plays and feels. But I am very curious as to how the higher tier Olds trumpets are, especially Recording and Super. Have you got any experience with these types, if so can you make a video where in you can review these trumpets? Thanks in advance!

    • @TrentHamilton
      @TrentHamilton  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the Ambassador is a lower grade product from olds, but still quite reputable. I have an Ambassador trombone in my collection that hasn't yet been restored. I've heard the higher grade Olds trumpets and trombones are some of the best available. Don't let the age of the instruments hold you back - Old's kit has a fantastic reputation.

    • @pascaldijkhuizen6600
      @pascaldijkhuizen6600 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trent Hamilton Thanks for your reaction. My trumpet feels better and less used than cheap new trumpets that I bought before. Furthermore old instruments have that kind of feel and style to it, you can feel that the instrument has aged like a fine wine, if you know what I mean.

    That's not an exhaust pipe, it's a catheter...
    Seriously though, I can't remember having that problem on the rotary valve instruments I used to play - is it a specific problem of piston valves only?

    • @zandergrier1302
      @zandergrier1302 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, although only on some instruments. With a lot of piston valve instruments, the valves are vented, so there's a small hole that goes through the valve out to the hole in the bottom so when you move a slide it doesn't go pop when you press the valve down. That's what causes the valve to leak, so if you don't have vented valves you don't get peed on. With rotors, the vent is usually very small and facing some direction other than down, so there isn't a problem because spit isn't going to get out.

      I don't think sheer range has ever mattered to anyone older than 12. You'll never win a competition or get a job just because you can play higher or lower than someone else.
