  • I installed my Midea U 8k BTU Window Air Conditioner. I would rate this product a 5 out of 5 stars it's super quiet and cools really well and blows a steady 49 degrees.
    (12/31/2020) Update - I have taken the unit out as the cool temperatures have started to roll in. The unit did good and I will be installing it back in once the time comes. I will record a new install video with some of the things I have learned from the first time.

    You got a Midea U? Cool! I had no idea until the notification of this video. This U-shape design was actually first developed by Heat Controller in the mid-late 1960's. I wouldn't mind buying one of these to use and see how long it lasts; very quiet!

    I hope I will be able to fit this in a 47 inch single hung window frame. My house is build in 1956 so they made large windows. Is there going to be a problem for me with it? Also I will need to have an electrician come in and put a 3 prong outlet in since I only have the 2 prong ones in my room (old fashioned I know) oh by the way I got the 10,000 BTU one - don't know if it makes a difference and I sure hope I do not have a water issue in the house. I don't care about outside. One more thing when you need freon for it what do you do when it runs out? Thank you so much for the video.

    Do these have a low ambient control kit, or something like that so, you can run the AC when the outdoor air temperature is below 60°F?
    I can't be the only one that wants to cool and dehumidify a room to maintain the room temperature at 68°F with humidity at or below 45%. I got one of these inverter units. It makes this room 62°F by day and drops humidity to 34% when outdoor temp is 78°F with 60% humidity. My issue is that at night, outdoor temperature is below 60°F, often at 55°F, and humidity will be near 60%. Opening a window is not something I want to do. I want to keep humidity controlled below 45%. Keeping windows shut with an AC running on dry mode will do the job. But can I run this thing below 60°F all night, every night?

    Few questions I have, seeing as I’m planning to get one of these.
    1. Why if your remote different than all the ones I’ve seen?
    2. People say theirs starts to develop a high pitched whirring sound from the compressor or a clanking sound from the inside fan motor, have you experienced these?
    3. People say it has a mold formation issue because the louvre closes after turning it off and doesn’t allow the condenser coils/fan blades to dry. (Workaround: Leave on fan mode for 30+ minutes before turning it off), have you experienced this either?

    • @HVACAdventures
      @HVACAdventures  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      1. My remote is different because my Midea U is a 1st generation and they changed to a new one in the 2nd and it’s the same in the recently released 3rd generation.
      2. I haven’t heard any of these noises besides on start up on very hot days when the refrigerant pressures are higher.
      3. I haven’t had any issues with mold but it depends entirely on the environment they’re used in and whether they’re maintained as well. Hotter and dryer environments are less likely to develop mold compared to hotter and humid environments.
      I hope this helped and if you’ve got anymore questions I’ll be happy to provide the best answer that I can.

    • @HVACAdventures

      The BTUs is the size of the unit because they can only cool to a certain room size I believe 350 square foot rooms go with 8k and 450 for 10k and I think 550 for 12k but I’m not sure about those numbers exactly but they should be around there. The units are more efficient than most because they use an inverter compressor and other devices to use less energy and be more effective. I’ve seen lots of ppl complain about there being a design flaw with this unit since it doesn’t have any where for water to drain properly. This results in mold growing inside. Some users have opted to drill a small hole at the base to fix that issue.
    Having had this for a year now, how is your experience where that’s concerned? Any issues with mold or water not draining properly? And how often do you need to clean it?
    I’m also in GA, and the weather is so temperamental (as you well know) so I’m contemplating leaving it installed year round like yourself, so I’m just trying to anticipate any hiccups or issues I’ll need to deal with in advance.

    • @HVACAdventures
      @HVACAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven’t had any issues with mold growing. To be honest I haven’t had any issues with it at all either. I do know it keeps the water moving because I think there’s small edges on the outside fan and it’ll splash water onto the coil to cool it off.

    • @TripleXbeatz
      @TripleXbeatz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HVACAdventures thanks for the reply. Okay that’s greats to hear. I suspected that people experiencing issues with mold was a result of improper draining which is likely a byproduct of mounting the unit perfectly level instead of giving it a bit of an angle for water to accumulate and expel from the rear bottom of the unit. I thought about creating a drain hole and inserting a grommet to prevent it from rusting. And doing that during the install rather than having to “fix” it later. But given what you just described with your experience, maybe I’ll wait.

      @@HVACAdventures Yeah, agreed. I’ve even seen some ppl mention tilting it just a tad more than the manual suggests, which apparently helps as well.
      I think a dedicated drain would actually make sense, but I’d imagine it would have some impact on how the unit operates in regards to cooling the coil, or other parts, etc. So potentially fiddling with that wasn’t something I really wanted to do, honestly. But I’d also obviously like to avoid any mold issues, or foul odors. Have you seen that one video where the guy had a bunch of mold in his? I think his name on YT is “thekilog”. I’ll have to check. I’ve had no mold issues since installing this so I don’t have any problems with it but I mentioned to someone else recently that it may depend on the environment it’s installed in. Being too humid may cause mold more than a dryer environment

    Can this be rotated to install on a sliding window system?

    • @HVACAdventures
      @HVACAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I highly recommend that you don't do this. Any unit that is not designed to be on it's side should not be rotated onto its side. This can cause a lot of issues with refrigerant inside the unit. It may run but probably not well.

Ive seen on amazon some small mesh filters that are cut-to-size, and photo reviews of people who place them ontop on their window ac's large particles screen.
