I first heard Tommy in 1973 on Billy Cobham's album Spectrum. To say I was blown away would be putting it mildly. Bought everything I could find with him on it. What a phenomenal guitarist he was. He could play all styles of music and play it well. I was fortunate enough to see him in Feb of 76 with Deep Purple, then the final show he ever played Dec 3 76. Both shows at the Miami Jai Lai Fronton. One can only imagine how good he would have been if he were alive today. Damn drugs! He was way ahead of his time and to this day still my favorite guitar player. RIP Tommy. You are missed......

WOW! 60 yrs old and I never heard of Tommy Bolin. And me, a HUGE Deep Purple fan from the early 70s. This is about the third tune I'm into and definitely my favorite. It's so Jeff Beck fusion. Amazing music. Incredible bass and drums carrying it too!

Man I was fortunate to be able to play the song Teaser with Johnny Bolin , Tommys Brother at a Pizza Bar in S Sioux City back in 92,, and during the solo section theres a part where the drums lay down this heavy groove,,and to this day I have never experienced any thing like that it was like I was catapolted into a different time spere , Johnny was in the deepest funky polyrythm thing ,,I turned and looked at him and the whole set was shaking moving to this GROOVE it was Insane We were being considered to play on a local tribute album to Tommy, but it went National instead which is great because it exposed Tommys music to alot of people; Motley Crew fans etc. that might not have otherwise heard it

Eu tinha 4 anos quando ele partiu.
Hoje, aos 50 anos, posso afirmar que tenho que agradecer a "tecnologia".
    Tommy já veio pronto.
    Usava branco quase sempre.
Brilhe, Tommy Bolin, porque eu estou aqui,e quero te ouvir.

The 1st time I heard Tommy play was in our basement in Sioux City, jamming with my brother's band. He must have been 15 at that time. He could, and did, play with anyone. One time he left his strap behind so I converted it to use on my sax. The Bolin family was a big part of my adolescent years. Saw his brother John a couple of weeks ago at the annual Bolin music fest in S.C. Tommy was such a great talent and all around good guy. D.P. was the biggest feather in his cap but was the worst shit he ever played. Fucking heroin. Improv like what you're listening to here is what he did best.

Pedge Died 18 years after Tommy, in 1994 of cirrhosis of the liver. I hadn't seen him in about 12 years. Not sure what the official cause of death was for Tommy but we all knew he had gotten into Heroin, and his playing had gone down hill during his time with D.P.

    • @dougbohling9259

@@guitarplayer2846 Actually, Tommy left Sioux City with a Paul and played that throughout his days with American Standard and Zephyr. I think that he changed to Strat when he went to James Gang. He may have played a strat on Spectrum but not sure. Joe Bonamassa found Tommy's old Paul and played it at Tommy's induction to the Colo. R&R hall of fame a few months ago. Tommy had a strat with a Teli neck that has been lost through the ages. I asked his brother John about that guitar last year at Bolin fest and he didn't know where it is now. I think that the Explorer shape that he played later on was an Ibanez Destroyer. Didn't matter what he played. He could make it sound like Tommy.

Was so lucky to see Tommy live...Teaser killed him though...I saw him in Denver 2 or 3 months before he died...He was a mess...Still jammed but he was unsteady...Unlike his days with Frank...he was tight back then...This jam is so hot.

My Granddaughter who is 8 said "Papa he sounds like he's got EXTRA FINGERS!!!"(Mind you she's allways thought I was the greatest guitarist ever...not now. Of course she knows who Tommy Bolin is.)
