The writing is ridiculously better than I expected.
Yeah. I had no plans to pick this up until I saw the reviews drop and I am glad I did. Combat has plenty of issues but I bought the relationships between each character and loved the heart the story had.
Is it that surprising that a multi billion dollar company could write an incredible story if they wanted to
@@steelersrock4392 Tell that to star wars lmao
It's written by Dan Abnett whose written various Guardian Comics and Warhammer Books
@@steelersrock4392 in the time were most of million dollar movies and games were sucks? yes it's a surprise
The nice thing about this twist is that Peter of all people should know from experience blood doesn't make family. A good arc for a DLC would be Nikki's bio dad being the villain and Peter having a "He wasn't your Daddy." moment.
There will be no DLC
What if she is Galactus’ Daughter?
I would love that.
@@Lemuel928 That would explain Magus using her as a host. Hell she could be Thanos's bio kid and that'd be a perfect set up for a sequel especially if he went around killing his bio children for Lady Death.
A reverse Yondu moment

I know some people are pissed she's not his bio kid...but did you already forget the "he might've been your father, but he weren't your daddy"??? Family doesn't need to have a blood connection, and, personally, I find it stronger to see Peter and Nikki bond. They build a relationship while we get just as invested. Shit, man, this game is *light years* better than Avengers
there was an avengers game?
@@jaydeleon8094 nah
@@godturkey4098 yes there was, and it was absolutely terrible.
@@jaydeleon8094 yes, there was an avengers game, and it was nothing like this. Let's just say we are glad they decided to actually put passion in this project.
The game beats its MCU and comic counterpart in story lol. In fact it shouldve been adopted as a movie.
I just realized that they both lost there mothers at around the same age, 12 and 13. Peter really knows her grief
I chose that option.
Yet relating doesn’t work
Yeah the juxtaposition was entirely international. Obviously.
No one knows what's that's like for anyone else
@@ryan1000011except peter literally experienced the exact same thing at the exact same age. Like rocket said in the movie: everybody’s got dead people,it’s no excuse to get everyone else dead alone the way

I mean, that qulote doesn't really work here. It did for Yondu because Yondu was there all of Peter's life raising him.
Peter has had what, an hour with Nikki her entire life? I'd hardly say he was a great Dad to her (admittedly that wasn't his fault...).
@@monged4life442 oh yeah but after Peter saved Nikki, Nikki joined the guardians and now Peter will be her father figure
Peter may not be her father, but he is her daddy
Was looking for a quote like this.
That came out wrong in my head
Look, I get what people are referencing, but that sounds extremely sexual.
The word daddy was ruined by the internet for me
@@dragonare715 hey daddy 😍
I would've loved for Nikki to be Peter's actual biological daughter. To me it would've been a very interesting take on this version of Star-Lord.
He do hv a son tho in comics
@@blackclover20 oh yeah?
they try to play "even he is not her father but he is her daddy" as the movie with yondu lmao.
@@Alert111 yeah, I see that.
Wait yondu still alive in this universe and Peter could adopt her.
In the comics she's a "Mercurian" which is a genetically engineered offshoot of humans that were designed to survive in extreme conditions. I don't know if she's human in this game though, since she has blue skin.
Welp, the blue skin could be a mutation od the experiment. So it can still make sense.
Well, Kree has pink and blue skin in comics...or just an excuse for coloring error (look GW isn't the first to make meta nod to making true-scale marines as "Primaris").
Since Nikki was stated to be "not of pureblood", maybe one of her parents being Xandarian or other human-looking aliens (either art idea or Eternals being at "all human-looking races are results of their eternal war with Deviants" it again).
To be fair, Peter isn't entirely human either. It wasn't ever explained what race Nikki was though
In the game at least
Wow
I swear it breaks my heart watching Star-Lord realize that Nikki isn’t his biological daughter.
holy shit this is way more heartfelt than it has any right to be, and no weird out of place jokes in a emotional moment
James Gunn’s made some of the best comic book films of all time and made the best Guardians of the Galaxy movies with real heart… and this game somehow managed to match and in ways surpass Gunn. I’m truly impressed.
It took all the comics and blended perfectly with Gunn's ideas. Even adding the Element Blaster which totally should have been in the movies
When I got to this part and having to destroy the present. Cake and hologram. I won’t lie. A part of me was torn. Amazing game. Don’t know why people don’t give it the praise it deserves
The entire time I was like “Ohhhh I don’t wanna do this I don’t wanna do this…”
It's like Spec Ops: The Line. The marketing made it look generic and boring, no one would have guessed the writing to be excellent
The best part of this scenario is Starlord isn’t being her father but he’s being her dad
Better than any moment in the MCU moves and take note, no need for a loud joke or quip to immediately diffuse any moment with serious drama
Nope
When the game writing is better than the movie itself
What an emotional BOMBSHELL of a game 12/10
Only 12?
Zamn
I literally teared up damn you making a grown ass man like me cry.
This part hit deep
♾️/10
even though it was sad, it is also kind of heartwarming the fact that Peter had such disappointment when he realized he was not the father
As a father this scene gutted me. 10/10, this game is amazing.
MCU Star-Lord is great, but this Star-Lord is such a great version of him. You can tell that they were inspired by the MCU, but they took a different direction and ran with it.
It's because they took a LOT of influence from Comic book Peter, at least in the latter half of the game. From his Spartax heritage to how he evolves as a leader, it's much more comic based.
I agree
When I first heard about this game I had absolutely zero expectations but it ended up being one of the best games I’ve ever played.
The fact the game didn't sold that well and there is no sequel to be seen on the near future is criminal. What a brillant writting. On par with J. Gunn GotG movies even better on touching moments like this one.
If Deus Ex last game with Adam Jensen is like this, I CAN'T wait.
This game looks so awesome and emotional 😭
It is.
I just beat it tonight, you are going to be on a rollercoaster of emotions. This scene though, it just hit really really hard for me. Mainly because I thought of my grandfather and how much I wanted him to be back in my life again.
@@TidusX16 My condolences.
@@TidusX16 when a a video game make you feel emotions like that you know it's a great game.
@Brandon Fitzgerald last one was Ghost of Tsushima. That was just an amazing experience. Honestly this story is just amazing, probably even better than the movies and I’m a huge James Gunn fan!
This game’s writing is a masterpiece. I wished we got a sequel
He might not be her father, but Peter defiantly became Nikki's dad.
I did not expect this level of character from this game bravo
This game really has awesome writing and characters. Didn't expect it at all tbh.
Honestly, I wish she actually was his daughter, she is so much alike Star Lord. It makes sense lol. But I get why she's not in the game. I loved this game, when I got to this part. This game has so much heart, this scene alone has more heart to it than the movies at times. I wasn't honestly expecting that in this game. I'm replaying the game.
The score is actually amazing
Even having read the early Gaurdians comics, I did not expect to have so much grief and trauma thrown at me in this game.
but at least they seemed to have drawn a lot of influence from the comics. They gave Drax his history with the mentor, Peter got his spartax heritage and the element gun(s), mantis was the Madonna, etc. They knew how to capitalize on those traumatic backstories 😂
That game was way more emotionally charged than it had any right to be
Yondu's quote from the second guardians movie resonated with me when I saw this.
God, this is so heartbreaking and relatable. Poor Nikki.
Peter: I may not be your father Nikki…but I be damn proud to be your daddy.
I love how he could’ve just said that he knows what it’s like as he lost his mom at her age too.
But he knows nobody grieves the same and he probably doesn’t know how he feels about it like nik doesn’t.
if you choose that option, she just snaps at you.
Not me crying cuz I just want to hug Nikki and tell her I’ll be there for her through thick and thin
Star-Lord would be an awesome father
It hurt to brake those items because you have to smash her hopes and dreams but you have to do it to save her but you feel better because you help her face reality
I don’t know….something tells me that Ko-Rel was telling Peter he isn’t the father for his sake, just so he doesn’t feel burdened or he has some sort of obligation to Nikki. She truly loves Peter, and she doesn’t want him to be tied down by something like having a daughter he never knew he had. Nikki is just too much like Peter to be a coincidence either, she has so many of his traits that it doesn’t make sense he’s not her actual dad.
That would be really dumb though. Ko-Rel wouldn't lie to him about something like that. Especially not during the last time they were going to see each other. And what does her personality have to do with her genetics? They share so many traits because Peter is emotionally still a teenager. That's it. Besides, the whole point is that the Guardians are a bunch of outsiders who form a family because of choice, not obligations. Having Nikki be his daughter undermines that.
@@H240909 This is really just my own beliefs, I know the idea is that even though Peter isn’t her actual father, he’s still her dad because the Guardians together are one big family. But I just felt like there was too much there to say otherwise.
@@onefairyfan87 Ok
That would be really good. You can't believe what characters' say as truth. They can lie
Those traits aren't biological. It's her personality that just so happens to mesh with Peter.
This scene honestly had me balling my eyes out.
This is one of two games that have brought tears to my eyes. This is the 2nd GOTG piece of media that made me cry.
I thought it was sad when Peter went down on his knees after defeating ego in the second movie. The way he accepted fate after his dad turned out to be his mom’s murderer was just sad lol
my grandma died a few days ago and I remembered this moment, and I wanted to rewatch it
me entering the guardian of the galaxy game "yeah space adventure, fun!!!"
also me here "...........i'll be in the crying corner for the next hour ot so......."
God damn Nikki's VA is terrific
I agree
Just commenting the same thing tbh. The writers deserve at least one award for this and now after this and GOTG volume 2.... I shud pack some tissues for the next GOTG anything for now on.
This scene STILL got me sweating through my eyes.
You his is pretty emotional and sad, and then I see the option to blame rocket
😂
damn who's cutting onions in my room again.
I’m slightly disappointed Star lord didn’t take a giant bite of the cake before smashing it
If you’ve lost someone you really sympathised with Nikki here. We’d all do anything to get them back.
Instead of her being an annoying little kid villain like we ALWAYS see. We understand her. We feel sorry for her.
Not sure I’ve seen the topic handled so well in any entertainment project before
The dialogue in this game is so flarking good!
Why though. It would have been such a good moment to have him actually have a kid.
It's Spider-Man and Black Cat all over again.
At least it wasnt a one way street…she wasnt Ko Rels actual daughter either haha
Cos one of the major themes of guardians is family not having to be biological, like with Peter and Yondu, or the gaurdians them selves
@@rhyscrummack3686 Does he actually adopt her?
@@camerondalton1495 its implied at the post credits when he talks about her needing guidance any everything

I want to cry its so sad 😢 Star Lord a good person to Nikki
What was great about this game was how Peter's development (and the entire team's for that matter) felt like it began with them behaving much like they do in the movies and then transitioning to the people they are in the comics. Peter learned to handle the traumas of his past and use them to better himself, as well as to stop acting like a goofy child all the time while still maintaining a sense of humor.
As a die hard comic book Star-Lord fan, this game was perfection.
that suit of Gamora is so awesome
This part got me the most the writing is absolutely amazing and the amount of detail that went into the game is amazing as well
8:56 blame rocket
Moment with candle is so heartwarming...
Is sad and heartwarming
Yeah, its also very fitting for Peter to use these words. And it is the way to explain this to a child. To give a starting point of how to cope.
He cant offer her solution, no real answer, just a small light in the dark to remember.
the music really sets the sence
Man…this is so emotional
Definitely one of my fave games TTvTT
This whole game is a rollercoaster of emotions, but man this scene arrived at the absolutely perfect point. Kudos to the voice actors especially Nikkis VO, there is so much raw emotion in this scene it's almost like you can feel her pain.
BLAME ROCKET.... Jesus.
😂😂
Can you convince her in the first time Peter is in his visions?
No it’s scripted to follow along but the 2nd time you do
i'm so mad i didn't get this cutscene in my playthrough
Can anyone tell me the track that is playing towards the end of the video? Basically the last 2 minutes. All I find when looking up the OST is licensed stuff and the Star Lord album
Bet he will still raise her as his daughter like yondu raised quill like he was his son.
Is there part 2 ؟
Hi I don't know you will have to ask the creators of there game of there making a sequel.
One awesome thing about this story is that moments like this are more effective as a game. You aren't watching Star-Lord smash the party, you are making him do it. You have to select the answers Nikki needs to hear, you stay in the illusion if you fail. A movie or book doesn't have the interaction to make this land like it does here. Man more people need to play Guardians of The Galaxy.
Man that's DEEP
I wish the MCU could create such moments but instead they HAVE to insert cringe attempts at jokes every 5 seconds
He will still be her father, blood relation does not matter.
Most wholesome scene in the game❤
I hope a sequel comes for this game, just beat it today
What song played when you were destroying the stuff
IM NOT YOUR DAD!
-Griffith the long one
I never had a chance to read the comics. But what I love about the movies and the game is that they share the same theme about family. Sometimes, family is not the one you're born to. It is those you find along the way that are just as broken as you. They give you the strength to endure.
if you are stuck in the loop, top two options and then trust her.
Very emotional
I loved this scene so much with Nikki
Where's intergalactic Maury, when you need him?
Where boys cried: titanic
Where men cried: Obi wan telling Anakin he loved him
Where legends cried:
While doubt this can’t give the same impact, but if Marvel Studio decided to do more Guardians project either as a movie or Disney+, I hope they adapt this cutscene with Nikki, and Ko-Rel, that would evolved Quill as a character and maybe comes full circle, with him being an orphan but raised by Yondu as his foster father, and now he himself is a foster father to Nikki. Certainly fits the theme from Phase 4 and the beginning of Phase 5, which is parenthood, family, or raising the next generation.
Which song is this from the OST ??
Are you telling me that there's an entire planet dedicated for bakery?
That what I thought too lol. But it's probably just a franchise thing.
@@anxiousearth680 yeah, but still it would be funny to think that there's an Earth-like planet with teeming life and resources but only dedicated for bakery
Anyone know what the soundtrack for the first half of Peter and Nikki’s talk is?
I was looking for it too but it seems to be very different in the OST. Basically it's the last minute of the music titled "Birthright" but it sounds so different . Then the rest it's "Good People Never Really Die" Both music composed by Richard Jacques.
@@conyo985 I think it's Moment of Truth
@@tomaspedro8344 I listened to the whole track. It does have that section of the music but it's still short.
Probably the best multiplatform marvel game
Wait...Peter Quill....wouldn't know what a girl who just lost her mother, is going through? That seems...like a strange line. Or are they not working off that particular background detail with this version of Quill?
Peter had a family to come back to eventually. Those were the Ravagers.
@@michaelarcher1577 but that's not family. At least not how this game, and most of Marvel tries to frame it. at least MCU Peter clearly implied that growing up with them was traumatic, given how they constantly threatened to eat him. Yondu tries to brush it off as a joke, and Peter points out "Not to me it wasn't!!" So that's hardly a "family". My point though is specifically about the fact, that they have Peter, a guy who's origin story is built entirely around losing his mom at a young age, is telling another young kid, who also lost their mom, that he doesn't know what she's going through.
That's just...silly. Maybe he would mention that if the player had chosen the "Empathize with her" option? But I could swear he says that line entirely before any player input is brought into the scene.
Again, maybe they don't use his dead mom as an emotional anchor for this video game Peter, haven't played it, so maybe they changed that. But I'm guessing they didn't.
@@happyninja42 The writers are trying to say that not everyone has the same experience losing a loved one, how one person handles grief and emotions is very different to another persons, there may be similarities but to tell someone that you know what they are going through would be just plain wrong.
Like Peter said, it's different for everyone, especially with how you lose someone. People handles grief differently. You can say 'I know how you feel', but not every person wants to hear that.
One of the choices show Peter saying he can relate, but then Nikki says she doesn't care what he feels. That she saw his Promise along with many others and it didn't help her. I like this choice better.
With Gamora's motherly instinct toward a child figure slightly earlier in the game and Drax's devotion to his own daughter that died, Nikki has it pretty well covered in the guardian aspect, no one would dare harm her again.
GOODFamilyForever🐺🐺❤❤🐺🐺..
I knew she wasn't Star Lord's daughter.
I was hoping Nikki will be peters kid that was a disappointment
Honestly, I agree. On the bright side, he can still be a father-figure to her. But I still wish they’d have just pulled the trigger and let Nikki be his actual daughter. It would have been an interesting twist for this version of Starlord. By having the setup and not delivering, it feels like they just chickened out of it.

I am sorry for your loss, I cannot imagine the grief you have had to deal with
If you don’t know the whole thesis of this game is grief we all lose people in our precious time on earth we will all die our love ones will die but for some people it’s too much for us to understand so we try to pretend they’re still alive somewhere. We can’t bring back those we lost but we can’t live on in Denial.
But we’re not alone this is what guardians of the galaxy is saying you have the power to reject the lie but never forget you have people to help you push and overcome grief.
Hope this game gets dlc
The developers have already confirmed there intentionally won't be, they don't want to risk a screw up like Avengers.
I hope the make a extra level or campaign or something but not as long
Honestly, she should’ve actually been his daughter, when they said she wasn’t I was super disappointed
Doesn't change the fact that he's gonna have to play Dad, since at the end of the game, when she becomes part of the guardians of the Galaxy, Peter acknowledged that she may need some parental guidance.
Plus, if there's one thing this game makes very clear is that you don't need to be blood related to be family.
