@@Blockeduser121 it’s just a long waiting process. Testing one night then go to the hotel and do what you want for the night. 10 PM curfew.. 4AM wake up and breakfast at 4:30 then leave right after for medical procedures; piss test, duck walk, physical, body evaluation

I couldn’t tell you forsure because I was only temporarily in navy security my job is in aviation and I also don’t know enough about Airforce to comment. But that really comes down to what branch of service you would like to join gotta research that for yourself and talk to the recruiter. Best of luck!
I’m sure you got an answer on this by now. But to clarify, the navy put all of the security forces and MP jobs into one rate.
When you become a Master at arms you have the potential of doing anything in security or law enforcement.
Including but not limited to
Gate duty, surveillance, mp, harbor patrol, K-9 unit, NCIS, investigations, armory aboard a ship, or manning the brig / jail.
There’s a lot of different jobs like I said, and theyre all under the large MA umbrella.
Edit : to clarify you’ll get assigned to a particular job. You can switch through out your career. By getting qualifications and recommendations and stuff. Everyone does gate duty at first to “pay their dues” and then after that you will go to another place.
There are people on TH-cam who are MAs who can shed more light on it, I’m just joining soon.
If you went to the army let’s say, there are different jobs for MP and K-9 unit I believe? So you’d be guaranteed a particular job, you have no such guarantee as an MA to do anything you have your heart set on within MA.
Ie: you want to be a K-9 unit. Okay
Try to get the k9 specialty in A school. It’s very hard to get. Many people want it, not many people get it.
Don’t get it in A school? That’s fine.
Volunteer. Help out the K-9 units in anyway and you may find yourself there anyway.
Tell people you have a genuine interest in the particular field and that’s your best bet.
Best bet is not a guarantee however.
If they don’t need people in this field, and they need people somewhere else, you may not get it. If at all possible, try to get it in A school if it’s what your after.
Try to get it in your contract before you ship out if possible.
Some jobs within MA may require working on a college degree
If not “require” it may just be recommended in order to be considered. I’m not 100% on this but I have read that people that get promoted and get noticed are typically people who are going to school. So if you want the more desirable positions, this may help.

How long do you have to be in the navy before you can apply for the TAD?
Usually as soon as you get to your first command you can go immediately. Which could be less than a year depending on your rate !

Come on man, you know there's a huge difference between your job as ASF, which half the Navy goes through, and being a master at arm security force number. Master at arms are not titled as police officers as the civilian officers on the base are. ASF isn't even allowed to perform law enforcement duties or drive a police car. They're mostly for standing at the gates and augmenting.
Thankyou for your input and thanks for the comment. 1/2 of the USN certainly does not go through ASF. We are literally trained in law enforcement to back up the MA’s AND perform those duties if Necessary so saying we are not allowed to is false. Sometimes people go ASF and enjoy it so much they stay and get MA qualifications and eventually cross rate. I have certainly had to give tickets at the gate and come to house calls as react. We may not perform the duties as often but we definitely do. The only thing you said that was slightly true is that we do stand at the gate quite a lot , just like MA’s. if you were in the Navy before you would certainly understand Every command and base is different ASF is probably different everywhere. Going to HSC 5 and HSC 22 being shut down because the test was a success cuz HSC22 is experimental squadron to see how much work they can pull off with less people working I like this command but the next one will be fun
