  • Don't underestimate the power of Alchemy and don't think that Ableton is better just because it has Simpler... they're both good, just different. Let me know what you think!

    It's very simple to slice your samples in Alchemy. Click the "Edit" tab located in the same area where you dropped your sample. In there you'll find a keyboard. Click anywhere on the keyboard and you'll notice a red dot appears on the light blue screen above the keyboard. You can resize that "light blue screen" to the length of a note on the keyboard by simply placing your mouse to the far left or right of the screen and drag it, the same way as you would on the ESX24. NOW HERES THE BEST PART!!! After resizing the blue screen to your desired length, you can duplicate ( copy and paste ) that parameter to another key as many time as it allows you to. Now each keys on the keyboard work like its own sampler unit. FOR SLICING, you can change your "start and stop" position of your samples inside the wave form thats located underneath the keyboard. You can also change the octave along with other things WITHIN THAT ONE KEY. You can even add multiple samples inside the same Edit Window! Hope this help, and please make a followup video. Btw, give me a shoutout when you do :)

      Yeah, but that’s a hundred times harder than Simpler in Ableton or Convert to Sampler Instrument in Logic. While you certainly hit on some of the traditional ways of sampling I think people are complaining that the old way is a pain in the butt and there are better ways it could be done.

    Exactly, what's missing is the slice audio to Alchemy function, rather than "Slice to EXS" when using that function in Logic. Plus, slice to EXS doesn't work properly without bounce in place first, if Flex time is on and the audio is flexed. :( Machine Drum Designer would be great if it was a stand alone instrument, that wouldn't just sit on top of Ultrabeat. Even Ultrabeat would be fine as long as one could actually zoom in on audio samples. Adjusting the start position of a sample in Ultrabeat is a bit cumbersome. That, and if Logic would let you reverse audio while flex mode is on, as well as slip audio regions is all I am asking for. :)

      Nice Sum up! I'm curious if all these things got fixed for you with the current update to Logic 10.5? I haven't updated mine as my OS is not the most current version and I'm afraid of overwhelming my MacBook so I'm not sure if its worth the risk :)

    I honestly can not find ANY other synth for other DAWs or for Windows (let alone Mac) that can morph the way Alchemy does, and for that, it's worth it alone. Honestly, if you are on a PC, buy the cheapest mac around and mainstage and turn it into a little hardware synth with Alchemy, and if on Mac but on another DAW, it's worth using mainstage as a standalone and doing some virtual audio routing. I mean if you set the buffer nice and low it's not going to be any worse latency wise than real hardware synths.

    I hope that Alchemy gets an update though. The UI doesn’t look like it’s Cocoa and I miss the function to interpolate wavetables like in RetroSynth. If they could redo the UI in the style of Phat FX and add some basic wavetable featured it would be the perfect synth.

    Have you ever used the command Convert To Sampler Track ? Import your audio to a track convert to smaller track using transients.. this will slice it up, REX style. This makes an exs24 instrument. Now, you can open exs24 directly into Alchemy using the import menu option for a source. Now you have all slices in a single source!

    • @LogicProLife
      @LogicProLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I talk about that in this video and have made an entire video about that previously. I just wish it would allow me to Convert it and then send it directly to Alchemy.

    I love alchemy, but can someone tell me how to make my samples fully transparent?? When i import a sample in my project timeline vs in alchemy, alchemy makes the samples less snappy, like the attack is off, even when i turn attack to 0

    Alchemy interface is horrific to use / not exactly lightweigth on the cpu! Would love to use it if it had a better gui

    • @Audiojunkk
      @Audiojunkk ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dddayesq5061 nah not new to synths, i think it's the gui, very cluttered for my tastes, potential confusion with the routing matrix on the left, compared to say, Vital, where everything (including routing) is there in front of you and arguably just as powerful a synth, tend to get useable results a lot quicker. I feel with Alchemy there's a lot of "set up" time you need to do before you get something interesting, which you don't always achieve!
      One other thing is the ranges of the parameters aren't inherently musical in practice. When using the grain feature I feel like i'm searching and searching for a sweet spot all the time rather than an interesting variety of useable sounds.
      Probably have a hit rate of about 1/5 when i'm actually using it and more often than not I waste half an hour and end up with a thin /fizzy/noisy load of audio salad haha
      I should mention I am mainly using alchemy as a sampler rather than using the more conventional waves.
      I'm not shitting on Alchemy i'm sure it works for a lot of people but I do struggle with it.
      Please tell me what im missing and how to get more out of it? im genuinely curious

    This video did not age very well. Apple did of course release Logic 10.5 and with it two brand new samplers that are much more useful than the one in Alchemy, good as that may be.
