Didn't know Britain had such a cool national anthem!
Yeh man
Imagine the footballers singing it.
@@chrisgreenhough2792 you'd think the end of the world was coming
@@calxshaw06 true why do ppl always think the end of days happens in an instant. Nah, it's a grind of endless days, renting out your body/soul/MiNd to the dollR. Just holding on Just holding on
Britain isn't a nation
imagine being here and only knowing creep, then witnessing this fuckin masterpiece.
brilliant
that happened when i saw them in i think 2016. A girl that came with pretty much only knew them for that song. She said hearing Separator for the first time like that was one of the most mind blowing experiences in her life
Yup, here and can confirm.
Hahahaha Koen you magestic commentator. So so true. I remember watching them perform this at their South Park home coming gig and I just sobbed throughout as it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard.
@@anthonypulice6343 fuck, that seem like such a good experience tho, imagine getting your mind wiped before a radiohead show then you go and listen to that
Radiohead: we need less guitars
Ed: fine I'll make a weird guitar that works
Jonny: rAdiO!!!
RADIOHEAD lmao
I fucking love Jonny Greenwood playing fucking a radio and still look so damn cool.
Ed was made to be the weird-sound guy for this band
And sometimes Jonny just plays anything
"I'll make a weird guitar that works" is Ed in a nutshell.....
He chose the radio cause the name of the band is radiohead
Colin Greenwood, ladies & gentlemen. That bass is m a s s i v e.
It was actually Thom who came up with that bass riff
I know; that fact is also awesome. I was referring to how well Colin was playing it and how great his tone was.
Colin and Phillip are both extremely underrated on rhythm. Thom and Jonny are fantastic but C and P don't get enough credit in my opinion.
@@dilby3246 Neither does Ed. Everyone forgets about Ed. :(
All band members are amazing and super fucking talented. :)
Thats what she said (:
12 words, 6 minutes, one of the greatest song ever made
In fact, Atom Heart Mother may be THE greatest song ever made, and it doesn’t include real words at all
Geezus, on every TH-cam music video, no matter the band, no matter the artist, no matter the song - there's at least one twit pronouncing that video as "one of the greatest songs ever made." For f**k's sake - be more original.
@@ivanjulian2532 how tf do i get likes then?
i want you beatles
@@tiffanybeatles nah, that song are repeating the same words and some gibberish word
Ive come to really love Johhny's stage presence more and more over the years. He is like the mad scientist working in the background in a lot of songs and I really enjoy watching him. Whether its on the Odes Martenot, playing a guitar with a fucking bow, or a....radio?
Lol he always creeped me out Bc he never aged he’s a freaking vampire lol
I thought he were Steven Hawking in music
i mean hes not the first to play guitar with a bow, jimmy page for example. but hes such a creative mind when he comes to his instrument or whatever he chooses to play
the guy has been producing whole music scores, I think that speaks for itself .. a mad scientist indeed, aware of the art going on around him and catching it as will
one could even say he is a radio...hea....ok i won't finish this joke its too bad
God bless Ed
Ed's tone in this version is just something else
YES!
Man, Ed O'Brien is loud and on fire. If this was the only thing you ever saw about Radiohead, you'd think he's the badass lead guitar
He's a badass lead guitarist
@@damienlott he certainly can be, but that's not really his role in the band. And that's not a bad thing at all. He's crucial to the Radiohead sound landscape
@@gdropp Ed is the spice that makes all the other ingredients pop. You've got a great dish with Thom Jonny Colin and Phil but when you sprinkle some Ed in you've got a Michelin star
@AdmiralOddSock jonny does cool things but is also consistently messy in his timing, tuning and overall precision. Every time I've seen them he's been the most consistently sloppy component, probably because he's trying to do so much at once. EOB is ruthlessly consistent, on the other hand.
@@DavySolaris Jonny sloppy? This is upsetting to me. I've never seen them live so I can't judge as well as you, but from the performances on the web he seems very precise, except when he plays parts that have to sound messy and chaotic.
I never knew Richard Hammond was singing for Radiohead back in 2009.
Excellent shout hahaha
Exactly what I thought.
great band from Brazil:

#supersonicband
#radiohead
Welcome to the USA
Good thing he didn't crash there.
this is the hardest video i’ve ever seen
This has layers, man. Colin with his fuzziest tone. Phil entering "human drum loop" mode. Jonny playing a fucking radio AND his odnes martenot. Ed with infinite sustain. Thom riffing on a fucking disco song and scatting the horn section's part.
infinite sustain Ed is my favourite Ed
4:00 that shot is amazing
all it needed was jonny to complete it
I thought the same.
@@kyleplatz3751 there's a similar shot during weird fishes at the same reading festival
it's so fucking good
Jonny puts the "radio" in Radiohead
I love this live version of The National Anthem. You got Philip Selway and Colin Greenwood laying down the beat, Ed O'Brien providing the guitar tones, Jonny Greenwood giving weird effects like a mad scientist and Thom Yorke playing the guitar, dancing like the enigmatic frontman he is, while chanting "I Feel Love". It's really mystifying.👍
*It’s holding on
Though to be fair, I always thought he was saying “Turn it off”.
@@Spoinzy he changes the lyrics to this and Idioteque pretty frequently in live performances, subbing words/phrases that have similar sound and cadence - I'm almost positive he's saying "I feel love" in this one, and has said "turn it off" in others, while the album version has "It's holding on", as you said
awesome to hear Thom start singing Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” at 3:16
he even mirrors her dance moves... i love it
They once covered Carly Simon's "Nobody Does it Better" too
Yeah,he loves that song.He mentioned it before.
it adds more flavor to the song ngl that is why this is the best version.
You are right. What a sneaky boy.
I love it that they opened this set with Creep (with Thom looking uber pissed) and this fucking violent song right after it.
this song is so agressive live
a lot of pahos right here
If/when radiohead tours again, this is one of the songs I really want to hear them perform
Ed O’Brien fills in for an entire horn section and nails it.
Never seen a band mesh this well on a live performance. They are one whole instrument on their own
This is the most badass live version of National Anthem
This really should be the national anthem 🙌
Best band of the last 30 years
More than likely .
Kitsune
Weren’t around for long enough to even be considered.
@cryingincminor dumb they’re way better
nirvana was just stereotypical, you guys would be more right if you said foo fighters was, but still not
That accolade easily goes to the American band Melvins. They've been around a good 10 years longer than Radiohead, VASTLY more productive and barely ever set a step wrong.
Radiohead is like CocaCola, they have secret ingredient to create songs and make you addicted
Radiohead have so many "Towering Above the Rest Songs". Songs that'll make you question everything, but "The National Anthem" might be the King.
Those slow-arcing tracking shots from behind the drums, like at 0:52, showing the band grooving with the audience in the background are brilliant. Chills.
Genuinely one of the best bass tones since fascination street by the cure
The look on Colin's face (4 mins) knowing he is laying down one of the dirtiest sickest bass lines there is ! Ed doing his usual excellent guitarwork with those hauntingly beautiful screams, Phil keeping a rock steady beat, Jonny just being Jonny a musical genuis and Thom keeping all together. PERFECTION!!
Ed killing it as usual!
For a song that’s entirely built around a great, stonking bass line, you think they’d cut to Colin actually playing it.
Ed ripping on this one is like seeing your history teacher at the store.
What an insane performance.
0:44 Jonny: Daaamn Ed hold on
Ed: Sorry Jonny, let's do it again...
3:11 here we have the 2 best examples of badass
Jonny being so invested and connected with the music looking like a pro at the top of his game enjoying himself during one of the most complicated songs they have. He has the entire crowd in his control and can do whatever he wants with that power.
And then Thom not caring about anything just enjoying his night by doing some wacky dancing. His arms in the air show him embracing the night, loving every second of it.
The amount of Colin just blasting out of those speakers is unreal.
Phil Selway seems so different in this. He's like a magician, he is so focused.
This has to be one of the best performances of National Anthem I’ve heard. I love Ed’s screaming wails on the strat in the beginning.
This one of the coolest performances ever
Fuck me if this isn't the greatest band on the planet.
Certainly one of them.
I played that baseline for a school show and my fingers bled like hell.
I've never seen them enjoy playing this song so much. They've played it better (See Jools Holland 2001) but in terms of energy and atmosphere (and the irony of this song being broadcast nationally via the BBC, the "pompous trumpet of British values") it's unparalleled. It's shot and cut really nicely too, and the light show nails the claustrophobia and rising chaos of the song. 👌👌👌
holy shit ed killed it in the outro
That bass line inhabits my brain since October 2019, when I discovered Kid A
This gave me the chills
Me too !
What can I say?Not bad,not bad@all.☮️&❤from Oslo2all here, we're in d right place!
I could not understand this music until I just let go and realised it’s unreal…it’s fucking genius.
I love the sounds that Ed makes in the guitar. They are all great!!
Love how Thom starts singing donna summer towards the end
Is kinda funny how Jonny "plays the radio" like he plays his guitar
Super lame of the BBC to have taken down the full concerts from TH-cam.
I suspect it was radiohead that did
TankShell Productions It says it was taken down by BBC when you go to the video page.
Very lame.
In fairness, Radiohead were sharing a full gig every Friday on here during lockdown.
Thursday
Full show is on iPlayer isn’t it?
the amount of times i’ve rewatched this video in the past week is insane
Those guitar tones at 3:21 could open a portal to hell
The fuzzed out bass tone is great too.
I always thought the brass sections were the only ones to complete this song, but they still nailed it like wtf its so good
My favorite version of this song
So much better live what a track ✌️
’Life is a short party that will soon be forgotten’
God I love that distorted bass
Phil was lethal in 09 I replay don’t think he missed a single note this whole song.
Jonny playing a radio while Thom is just possessed
When Radiohead uses a Radio
This is one of my favorites videos of all time.
3:03 through to 3:59 is harmonically beautiful to my ears.
History will remember this. Better than the beatles and less recognized.
Better than Beatles? 😂😂😂
nah mate beatles had revolution 9 in 1968 which was unheard of then you can find noise music like this anywhere nowadays, not to take anything away from radiohead. they already solidified their place in history as one of the best bands of their time, but there is a radiohead song that copies or “rips off” a beatles song
@@aydenhdgaming5336 and the unreleased carnival of light
Masterfully shot. Congratulations to the TV crew.
I dig this live better than I do with the Studio produce.
It's nice to see Jonny would display his passions in RC planes, though I wouldn't recommend him flying it above the audience
No matter how many times I see them I always go back to this song...man...and this set up...wow
Amazing moment where ed was early at 40:00 and him and johnny communicated and started correctly.
this is the most radiohead version of a radiohead song ive ever seen
I love those rotating shots around Colin
this is probably the single nastiest bass tone ive ever heard at a live show
Thom wrote it when he was a teenager
Full of talent
Thom wrote it when he was a teenager
Talent all over this band
Ed o'brien amazing guitar sound , ladies and gentlemen
Chills
Was such an amazing experience seeing this exact gig live! Cheers the the upload :)
Saw this in Ireland in 2000. Best musical experience of my life. TURN IT ON!
this is shot really well
Is he singing donna summer I feel love at the end?!?! Awsome
Bonnaroo performance and that one are asolutely amazing
The best sensory overload I've ever experienced ever 🤯🤘
now that's radiohead
Lost all my mates during Radiohead, 17. Best time of my life. I love this band ❤
The anthem of perfection.
How to make a band completely talented? The answer is RADIOHEAD
what a shot on the drums! Selway my mentor
these guys are just on a hole different level of cool!
Here we see Johnny playing his box.
I FEEL LOVE
The display tile made Ed look like Noel Gallagher and Thom Richard Hammond
Noel Gallagher isn't tall 😹 but yeah i guess so
favorite radiohead song ,,, one of ... but its up there
I've always wondered what Radiohead would sound like with a more aggressive drum sound and this has gone some ways towards answering that. Better.
With beatles, radiohead etc I just keep marveling at how some bands form with no or virtually no changes and all the random buddies turned out to be world class musicians.
0:53 Collin looks just like Murdoc from Gorillaz
Been a fan of them since i was 15 and I'm now 26 and still rocking with them 🤘 Coldplay and Radiohead were two bands i really fell in love with when i was a teenager. They're just the best.
I'm 66 and I love them. Never seen them live, though.
coldplay is not on radiohead level
Coldplay make pop music for the masses and sold out as time went by.
@@serkanovat even Coldplay would agree with you lol but I love them too
ma boi Colin having fun 0:55
A day in the life of Colin Greenwood
I think this IS the best live video ever. Shows everyone doing their things while Thom just shaking his butt like he’s waiting for an incoming storm. What a show
Jhony Greenwood is a beast 🔥🔥🔥
Greatest version of this track, EVER!
I love their live performances. Structured chaos.
I remember that stage set up, I saw them during that tour at the hollywood bowl. It was absolutely amazing.
Need trumpets
Yeah really missed out those high notes breaking through with the brass
and SAX
I watched this three times in a row already
