Whenever your water goes down the drain, whether it's in your sink, toilet, bathtub etc., it flows through your drain-waste-vent system. Also, in many countries sink water is actually drinkable, so he could have wasted litres of perfectly fine water just for it to get recycled and used to clean up shit. It's a waste no matter what.
