What doesn't make sense to me is they are facing 20 - 30 years because they are allegedly dangerous criminals who can't live in society (the entire point of prison) but if they betray their co-defendant then they are magically no longer dangerous and released from prison. I can't help but feel the system is extremely flawed and out dated.

Extremely flawed, but they do that to keep tabs on them. Statistically speaking most people are repetitive offenders unfortunately.

I did 5 years in state prison and had 10 years of parole after I got out. I went to work every single day and as soon as the day was over I went straight home. Everyone called me boring and a square but I was successfully released because I knew any little things I would do 10 years and not one of those people that laughed at me and called me names was going to do that time for me

You are basically penalized for going into a trial when only there you can proove your innocense. This needs to be changed like yesterday!

Person pleaded out for 90 days in jail and 2 year probation. This person in the end served 42 days in jail with good time + 2 years probation.( no strike, no more firearms, felon). If that person went to trial - he was facing 2-6 years, if found guilty it trial by jury - that person would be given 6 years in JAIL. And I believe you have to do 80% of that.
