I am a professional singer and I feel so little compared to this most incredible artist/singer. To top it all, she is one of the nicest people in and out of stage, BRAVA VIVICA!!!!!
I wonder how many of those who commented on this video actually have ever taken even one belcanto lesson. Cause if they would have they would know that what Vivica does here is pure coloratura. She has the perfect tessitura and ambitus. I wonder how many singers can state that. So brava Vivica!!!!
I personally Know Vivica, she grew up in Alaska where I met her when she came to my city fairbanks for a performance. She is my inspiration and idol. She is the proof that someone from alaska can truly make it big... if they work big to! Thanks Vivica for being so amazing. We are rooting for you!
Imagine what it would be like to be her: Control and range in dimensions beyond what we could hope for- and yet always critical of her own performance- this is what heaven is this sublime yet deep insight into such an artist... as no other media could ever hope to provide. Singing with Biondi- she is at the acme of her art. i hope for her it is a long peak- she is so good.
A-MAZ-ing! How can I be so mesmerized by the voice, yet unable to take my eyes off that wierdness she does with her mouth and jaw to create the trills and runs? I have never seen that technique before, but clearly, for her it works! Who else can produce those blisteringly fast runs of which she is clearly the QUEEN. Must.....stop...looking!
How italian, where can i get a race change operation? Biondi is genius, Europa Galante plays in my head while cycling, spuring me on to ever better times. What a life it must be to do this for a living. I am sure it is not easy, but oh they make it look so. True experts. i could live my life watching only these recordings, and forsaking the final performances, such is the honesty and veracity of the performance. None such compares.
I just like the moment when Vivica smiles :) before I heard her at the "Victoires de la musique classique" (a French TV show), I did not like lyrical music. But since I heard her I have been fond of it!! So I must thank her, and tell she is one of my idols :)
it's interesting to compare her ornamentation in this video to those on her farinelli album. these are a little more elaborate, but in a few spots she seems to almost run out of breath. on the album, there are a few ornamented phrases that seem to go on forever without her ever breathing! she is absolutely brilliant!
haha you should've seen Vivica on monday, she performed the best qual guerriero I could ever dream of as an encore :D Plus I was wondering how she could make Agitata da due venti hers since it's bartoli's hymn ^^ well she just sang it twice as fast as Bartoli. And Flawlessly. She was a goddess on stage :)))
Wagner and Verdi may have been more erudite, but Vivaldi and Scarlatti were peerless in the artistic vein... This unassuming solo never fails to moisten my eyes, if not shed a tear. And i do not even know the libretto... Pretty interesting for someone who played punk in the 80's, I still love both: excellent music transcends genres.
Europa Galante, conductor is Fabio Biondi, who also plays first violin part. They do use original instruments or copies of them with entrails strings etc.
Another upload of this says "FU Celine Dion". I have no personal animosity to ms. Dion, but the vocal comparison is really of two different worlds. Freddie Mercury vs. David Hasselhoff Europa Galante and Fabio Biondi's production of Bajazet is truly original enough to draw in the non-opera aficionado (me), and the awesome voices included are so much more accessible than ever expected. Awesome, in the true meaning of the word.
this is opera? it feels so intimate, i expected different. I went to an opera once, it was nothing like this, was I simply at a bad opera? This is totally different... i do not know what the one I saw was... this is incredible, and this is just a practice. Maybe i need to go to an Italian opera in Italy or something...
@cantanteporsiempre air makes vocal chords create sound, but variations of pitch are not from breathing, but from muscles contractions of the vocal chords (forgive my english, i'm french)
@Brazilianboy13 I would healthily argue that Cecilia's trills are probably as close to instrumental trills as you'll find, mainly because she specifically chooses to articulate both notes of the trill using glottal coloratura. It's not as pleasant sounding as a good vocal trill, but it is technically a very accurate trill nonetheless.
She can do what she wants, wobble, cover her ear or even tap dance, the result is incredible and sounds totally healthy (for a music like that it's not expected) and that's all that counts.
I 100% agree with you. This is a REAL opera singer in the mold of Horne. I don't hear any of those ugly "popping" sounds that Bartoli tortures us with. I can hear everything here, this is SPECTACULAR.
@marykathia It's not the air control which can help you to sing like this. It's the control of the vocal cords. Breath control can only help you to sing much longer.
I was wondering why both Genaux and Garanca, during rehearsals and recording sessions, so often put their palms to the sides of their heads. Finally I figured it out. They are both from very cold places, Alaska and Latvia, and are used to trying to keep their ears warm. Whew!
i love her! is this aria on any album of her?? and this mouth-thing is really sweat, isn't it? i like cecilia bartoli, but for castrato arias vivica has the better voice and controll of it. her coloraturas are adorable!!
It is true that this aria was written by Riccardo Broschi for his brother Carlo, the famous castrato Farinelli, but Vivaldi re-worked it and re-wrote it to have it sung by a contralto.
- poppycock
I am a professional singer and I feel so little compared to this most incredible artist/singer. To top it all, she is one of the nicest people in and out of stage, BRAVA VIVICA!!!!!
If I had not heard this aria, I would say it is impossible to sing. Bravo Vivica!

My jaw dropped when I saw her sing this aria in a concert performance of Bajazet in Yokohama some years ago.
lucky you

It's unbelievable! This divine voice can only come from goddess.
Awesome vocal ''gymnastics''!!Virtuoso performance by Vivica & her accompanyists.

I love this aria, it´s so full of energy and vitality

magnifique.Quelle virtuosité!
Increible Vivica !
Such a beautiful voice !
Bravo!!!! Genaux has put the ultimate stamp on this aria and has set the standard very very high. Wouldnt mind hearing Bartoli perform this:)
1:55-2:03 is amazing. Her jumps are immaculate!
She's fantastic! absolutely great!! Brava Vivica
that was awesome! baroque arias rock!
Simply superb!!
she is great ! I've read in an interview that she trained 3hours per day during month before recording her tribute to Farinelli.
Wonderful !!!!!
Che voce !!!
Complimenti !!!!
VG is incredible in every sense.
the music is wondeful, the performance is typical Europa Galante (INCREDIBLE)..
And it is just plain FUN.
She's GLORIOUS!
Bravi!!!! applauso!!! meraviglioso! Grazie per il suo video

époustoufflant, c'est la meilleure! you're the best vivica!!
Me hizo llorar!
my favorite singer
Couldn't imagine that a singer could do this. She can't be human. Just incredible.Top of artistry!!!
SHE IS BEAUTIFUL! both voice and face
FANTASTIC!

creator level cinematography.
I could watch this forever.
Perfection!!!!
bellissima voce, bravissima cantante!!!
5:27: she is such a little cutie! With the voice that could represent the entire planet...
Beyond any words
OMG !!! so fantastic!!!!!!!!!!
Europa Galante, conductor is Fabio Biondi, who also plays first violin part. They do use original instruments or copies of them with entrails strings etc.
: Maravillosamente bien .
fantástica!=)
Abosolutely OUT OF THIS WORLD!
In jeder Beziehung unglaublich!
Unmenschlich schweres Stück und unbeschreiblich süße Sängerin :-)
COMPLIMENTI!.......😢❤❤❤❤❤ COMMOVENTE!!!!❤❤❤❤
staring and listening the glory of god,,, she is one of a kind.,,,
Bello y excelentísima contralto
Quedarme con la boca abierta, es poco! Me enamoré
Amazing!
Is there any particular reason she holds her hand to her ear?
That way she can hear her own voice better like if you are wearing headphones. Try it yourself!
this is really a drug! so so stunning!
Wonderful Vivica!!!!
Dios mío la tía, impresionante 😵😍
Amazing!

Awesome, in the true meaning of the word.
there is a special dvd that has all these arias on it that is included with the cd box set of bajazet.
Rehearsals will forever be more meaningful and soulful than the performance.
I love her!
I love this woman!
Wonderful! Your turn now Cecilia Bartoli! You kick butt in so many fast arias let's see you do this one come on cei cei won't you?

bella bella bella!!!
She is really remarkable. And it may just be me, but this song really makes me want to dance!
Une merveille…
Maravilla !!! en estilo antiguo

Marylin Horne?😂😂😂 She would never stood a chance with this aria. Not even Bartoli touched it!!!
@AlvaroE93 yes I wonder that too! is she doing the total coloratura with the moving of the jaw/mouth or does she use her larynx too?
beautiful
@marykathia It's not the air control which can help you to sing like this. It's the control of the vocal cords. Breath control can only help you to sing much longer.
it is post covid-19, and even to this date I cannot find a perfect rendition like this
I was wondering why both Genaux and Garanca, during rehearsals and recording sessions, so often put their palms to the sides of their heads. Finally I figured it out. They are both from very cold places, Alaska and Latvia, and are used to trying to keep their ears warm. Whew!

Diva means goddess :p
It was precisely a play on words... :)
spaventoso!
@eukleides2
That's great, thanks!
