The Last Prince of Wales

  • On December the 11th 1282 Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, Prince of Wales was murdered. To distinguish between him and pretenders who have subsequently laid claim to the title 'Prince of Wales' the Welsh stubbornly refer to Llywelyn ap Gruffydd as Llywelyn The Last.
    His death is shrouded by the mists of time and legend. This little film is only my take on the last days of Llywelyn. There are many more. One fact that we can be certain of - he did die on the 11th. December 1282.

    I am no Welshman, but this is indeed a touching story. It is unfortunate that Llywelyn's daughter was not allowed to join her mother's family in France.

    Every time I watch this video I'm nearly in tears, so sad what has happened to our Proud Nation, anyone Welsh who watches this video and feels a spark of emotion want to get to Cilmeri on the nearest Saturday to the 11th of December. There's a March and a Speaker in the Rememberance of our Llewelyn Ap Gruffydd. If you don't know much of your true Welsh history, get up there and there's plenty of Proud welshmen and woman attending with open arms, we all will be more than happy to tell you your true Welsh History, not the English Bullshit we are taught in schools. Very sad, it is like the battle of Mohács or the Trianon for us, Hungarians. An event, that was the beginning of a tragedy for the Welsh nation, which also today affects them, ripping off their culture and language. Very sad. And we see the signs of the murdering of Llywelyn ein llyw Olaf in the murdering of Welsh independence, culture and language, which day by day is nearer to its end. We see this in the video too, in the fact that much of the inscriptions in the places that the video shows are only in english.

      You can thank the Tudors for that. Beginning with the gloss that Henry VII was in any way ‘Welsh’ (he wasn’t, father Edmund was result of Katherine de Valois’s infatuation with Edmund Beaufort, not me saying this, English scholars). Aside from a nominal visit to Ludlow for his son, Arthur, installed there as Prince, (and dying there at 15) Henry had no use for the Welsh aside for lip service. William Stanley’s pikemen, prob under the command of Rhys ap Thomas dis attack Richard III from the back, (so much for allies, another reason Henry VII would never put a foot on the battlefield again, learned you can’t trust mercenaries nor your own ‘Allie’s’) but Stanley’s pikemen brought a king down, from behind, and made Richmond king. It did much for ONE Welshman. The next Henry, the maniacal 8th, would make even the language of the Welsh illegal, only one language permitted in HIS England, much like only one authority over all, over kingdom and church, Henry VIII, the State. That is why you were never taught anything about Welsh history, culture or your language. When something smells, it’s usually the Tudors. (A name btw, they did not use, it had no dynastic import, and mercifully as a ‘dynasty’ it was in the male line one that lasted only 68 years)

    Much greatness and good was attributed to him. Llewelyn’s father in law, his wife’s father, illustrious Simon de Montfort (Earl of Leicester) fought alongside of Llewelyn and together along with the rebel barons, their armies successfully defeated the English army under King Henry III (Montfort’s brother in law) at the battle of Lewes, in Sussex. Earl Simon ruled and governed England under “uncrowned King of England” refusing the preferential title preferring constitutional law. He initiated the now well established Magna Carta, provisions of Oxford and parliamentary law of which it has endured and remained unfaltering and unwavering through time. To the utmost extent quite the legacy. Only later did Llewelyn meet his death at the battle of Evesham. Henry and prince Edward escaped after being held at the Tower of London raised up yet another army and would meet Llewelyn and de Montfort at the battle of Evesham.

My granddaughter moved up into the local comprehensive school last September and the learning of history has so far covered 1066 and the battle of Hastings, Saxon kings and the Viking sacking of Lidisfarne. Surely this is an affront to the people of Wales. Are the members of the 'WELSH' assembly sitting just 12 miles away from this school going to allow Welsh history to fade and die ? I hope not....Thank you Huw Davies

    The same happens to us too, Hungarians. Mohács anihilated Hungarys ruling class, so the country had no national rulers to stop the Turkish Tatar, and Austrian occupation, invasions and massacres. Hungarians disappeared from large areas of the country, being killed or brought to slavery in the Ottoman empire. In their place people from other nations apeared, like Serbians, Romanians, Germans, etc., so Hungarians became minority in their lands. They were time to time also victims of pogroms from these nations, like in 1783-84, 1848-49, 1944.
    Trianon finished what Mohács started, when after the 1 Word War the most parts of Hungary (around 3/4) were partaged among other countries like Romania, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and Austria, and the destruction of the Hungarian minorities started in full power. Today in old territories less and less Hungarians can be found because of the cruel and relentless assimilation, and hatred policy, which is leaded by these countries. In places which some Hundred years ago were 100 % Hungarian, today you cannot find one Hungarian. This is like the Welsh people, who are loosing their language and culture. But Hungarians not loose their language, but simply are assimilated or their territories are filled with other nationalities, making them minority, and victims of forced assimilation and of course, many times even physical aggression from the, now majoritarian nations, if they dare to speak their Hungarian language.

    • @ultrademigod
      @ultrademigod 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That's awful, but is nothing like Wales.
      The Welsh aren't a minority in their own country, and their language and culture aren't being exterminated.
      The only people in Britain who have lost their culture, identity and traditions are the English.
      First by the Normans, then by the Germans, and finally by the EU.

    • @lawrencehuxham
      @lawrencehuxham 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ultrademigod Accept that there are some areas in Wales which are very Anglicised like Beaumaris, Llandudno and others. There in North Wales you will find that almost everybody speaks only English and it seems that the Welsh language is lost. However, Welsh on the other hand still lives on in other Welsh speaking areas like Caernarfon, Penygroes, Llangoed, Pwllheli, Sarn, Aberdaron, Llanberis. These are the strongholds of the Welsh language still alive, even if the census says that it has drop down from 21.5% of Welsh speakers in 2001 to 19% of Welsh speakers in 2011. So this shows that there is a danger of decline, which is often a slow decline, although there are signs in which Welsh language is still alive.

      Well Glyndwr was by birthright the Prince of Powys Fadoc, he was proclaimed Prince by his followers as his ancestry contained the most recent heirs to the Kingdoms of Deheubarth and Powys Fadoc, he was only a noble as his ancestor submitted to the English Kings so that they would be spared a beheading. And of course there is the genealogical claim that is written down in the likes of Lewys Dwnn, Burke's peerage, the visitations etc. that his great grandmother Catherine wife of Philip Lord of Iscoed was in fact an illegitimate daughter of Llewelyn.

      Why so pissy? All that's known about Athrwys ap Meurig were the names of his parents and his son and some approximate dates of his reign and life. That's not a lot of information at all. He was also a 7th century king, not a 6th century one.
      In other news, there is no "Arthur ap Pendragon (son of Victor Pendragon who was the son of Magnus Maximus." If you follow the genealogy laid out by to one version of the legend, Arthur (or Aurelius Ambrosius Aurelianus) was Magnus Maximus' great-grandson. But other times (like in Geoffrey of Monmouth's work), Arthur is instead the grandson of Flavius Claudius Constantinus, who was of no relation to Magnus Maximus.

      Actually Arthur's ancestry is cited as such in Mostyn Ms. 117: Arthur ap Uthyr ap Custennin ap Cynfawr ap Tudwal ap Morfawr ap Eudaf Hen. In Jesus College Ms. 20 King Erbin of Dumnonia is a brother of Uthyr due to shared paternity and provides that the ancestry actually extends two more generations between Morfawr and Eudaf and that it should be rectified as ap Custennin ap Cynfawr ap Tudwal ap Morfawr ap Gadeon ap Conan ap Eudaf Hen.

Wales is England's last remaining colony. All other colonies have been granted their independence years ago. Unfortunately, we haven't. 1, 000 years since the invasion. That's a whole lot of years of oppression, murder and the attempted genocide of our language and culture. But we're still here, just. We urge all ex-colonials, to help us drive the English out. Sadly, the quaint old castles you see in Wales were English military bases from which troops would ride out and massacre the native Welsh. They were places where our ancestors were tortured, too.

    My family history reads that one English mounted soldier named Anthony Tipton killed Llywelyn as Llywelyn was trying to escape from a battle at the foot of Snowdown Mountain. Both were in armor and mounted. Tipton killed Llywelyn. Later King Edward was brought to the site, identified Llywelyn and immediately knighted Tipton, giving him the title Sir Anthony de Tipton and awarded a royal crest to him. I will brag and let you know that Sir Anthony de Tipton is a direct ancestor to my family. But, then I have read where different soldiers killed Llywelyn in addition to his death as described in the presentation.

    • @-heathen-3622
      @-heathen-3622 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      genealogy was often faked in the past for legitimacy purposes.
      if you actually look into princess catherine, she has no mother in her genealogy but llewelyn as a father... this is a big red flag and was probably written well after to add legitimacy to her family ancestry.
      if you look at gwenllian's genealogy her name is often catherine gwenllian verch llewelyn, this is the second huge red flag for princess catherine.
      catherine gwenllian verch llewelyn... the only child of llewelyn the last died in a nunnery in 1337 and bore no children... direct ties to llewelyn died with gwenllian of wales.

Sometimes ancestral memories are passed down through our genes and we don't know why. All my life I knew I was a descendent of a Viking King and I always told people I was. Glade to know it was true. It explains why nobody ever got away with crossing me. And my no fear attitude that got me in hundreds of fights at the drop of a hat. Some I lost but you got to take a beating to learn to give one.

    Not true! Last Prince of Wales was Owain Glyndwr! The laws England had over Wales were annulled in 1400....this is why Henry the 7th couldn't claim Kingship over Wales and why Henry the 8th had to annex the Kingdom of Wales (Founded in 1057). You can only unite two Kingdoms with two crowns. Owain took the De Jure Title of Prince of Wales (Rex Britonorum - King of Britons) with him into hiding.
    This is the same reason why Wales, (under international law on dethromed monarchies) cannot be added to either the UK flag or UK coat of Arms.
