Finally! Problem solved! Thank you. I was able to fix MS-Word using your method but my other MS Office Apps remained unavailable. So what I did was I followed your steps and on the last part when you tried looking for WinWord, I searched for excel and powerpoint and taadaaaah! It worked! Thanks much...
hello, can you tell me the excel file name to be edited
if you look in the same file(image file execution options) that the microsoft word is in, excel and so are ALL other ones you're having issues is in there. You'll be able to do the same thing (changing from 1 to nothing) again :) Hope this helps!

If this fix doesnt work, try changing the name of the '.exe' file of the program that is troubling you. For example, if adobe acrobat isnt working (like my case), find the '.exe' file (AcroRd32.exe in this case) and rename it, i changed it to 'Adobe.exe'. I hope it will be useful

Didn’t help at all none of the folders showed up I just want to play my games 😭
I think I found a work around I deleted the game from the main pc but kept the game files I’m not really sure if this helped but I hope it did also the game was GTA v

1. Modify your Microsoft Office inside Apps and Features ( Settings ). Press repair it and it will work again.

FOR ANYONE HAVING AN ISSUE WITH ANY PROGRAM:
Please follow these steps to change the application executable's filename:
1. Right-click on application's shortcut on Desktop and click on "Open file location".
2. Afterwards, search for application's main .exe launch file in the folder.
3. Right-click on it and select "Rename".
4. Choose any other name. For example, if you are using Paint, it can be changed to Paint2.
5. After you do the change, try launching the renamed application file directly.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! This has been a HUGE headache on my desktop computer for weeks. Couldn't open MS applications without admin permission and file shortcuts wouldn't launch applications. Guessing the culprit was a Windows update. If I could give you a hug I would! :D
I was trying so hard to fix this last night that when I decided to look up more recent search results, it lead me to this solution and another result was this video. Hopefully can expect an update to fix, but we can fix Office for now.

This fixed the problem, but how did it get "filtered" in the first place?
After spending HOURS googling what to do to resolve this issue, and contemplating buying another laptop, I found this TH-cam video. I'm soooooo grateful to the person for posting it. The solution provided ABSOLUTELY works!!! Towards the end, I entered zero ("0") as the value for the UseFilter. Leaving it blank caused another error to be presented, but the "0" fixed it for sure... for ALL of my Microsoft tools that I couldn't previously open. Whatever you do, don't download various software like I attempted to fix this issue... like WindowsCannotFindFixWizard. The various software you download could try and gain money from you for the actual fix, or could place a virus on your computer.
I can not thank you enough, Your fix helped me so much, out of all the videos I've watched, you are the best, Thank you

I am so thankful for the help. Seriously. It was something that happened yesterday on my computer and then today my boss couldn't open his. We have been looking for ways to open out Apps and documents/files for more then 5 hours straight this morning. At the point of tears, haha. This works. Do it. Takes a few minutes to get it done but it works for all the apps.

You absolute legend. I had this issue yesterday and just ended up uninstalling office 365 for office 2010. Then today got same issue with Origin.exe. Applied the steps and it worked. Thanks so much!!!!

Is this supposed to work only for Word? Cuz the final file is called winword. I have the same probleme but with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 form Xbox Game Pass. Is there a way to fix it in another file?

@@AlexBobo I solved this problem yesterday, cause my word files werent opening, i just went to regedit to the same path shown in the video and ctrl+f and searched for avast and deleted all the debuggers that said avast and it solved it

I tried sfc and dism to repair tried all the commands in powershell microsoft said to use nothing worked. THIS WORKED straight away, I just had to go through all entries in Image File Execution folder and any with UseFiler change to 0. Everything working fine now. Not sure what corrupted my registry in this way no update nothing just restarted one day and it was like this.

same thing happened to mine. follow the steps below and it should work
Open Control Panel using Start.
Click on Programs and select Programs and Features.
Click on the Office product that you want to repair.
Click Change.
Select Quick Repair and click on Repair. If Quick Repair didn’t fix the error code 0x426-0x0, select Online Repair and click on Repair.
my one is not called usefilter instead its "MitigationOptions" and is not set to 1 by default instead its set to "100" by default help pls

This, and a Repair in the Control Panel seemed to have fixed it, but now if I restart my computer, the number resets to "1" in Registry Editor, what should I do?

Oh this is recent. I wondered why I could not open any office stuff. Unfortunately changing this makes it from "...you typed the name correctly and then..." to "Something went wrong" window with error code 0x426-0x0 I am looking at it now

Just delete this key from registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options
(The whole "registry folder").
You can export it as a backup if you aren't sure what are you doing.
