ALFAA reminded me how Thom can probably write a thousand simple & sparse songs and get me deeply invested every time. this cover's a good example of that too. much love to your stuff
Only recently discovered your channel… Amazing! My Girlfriend and I were at the 01:00 ‘The Smile’ performance in London a month or so back… this takes me right back to being there. Great work 🙌🏻
Just saw them at Ryman in Nashville (bc Ryman!) and out of a great set this was the most emotionally draining track. You guys honor that with this cover. Magnificently done. Hope to see you soon.
i waited to listen to any of this until the album was released. This was my faviourite track for sure and what a nice surprise to see you've already done a cover and a great one too!
I had a terrible day at university, but this has given me encouragement for the rest of the day Got damn!!!! This is beautiful. Joe and Taka, i admire you so much
I was at the second of the live shows in London and this was one of the highlights, partly because it wasn't in the Glastonbury live stream last year. Absolutely beautiful, I was amazed to learn just now that this has been around since at least 2009. Amazing work as always guys, this album can't come out soon enough.
To be honest, I didn't watch your cover yet due to tension in our country ( Greetings from Kyiv, Ukraine ) But i hope that very soon i will have comfortable opportunity to watch and listen your job. Peace ❤️

I can't wait for the smile album. I can already tell just like most of Radiohead I'm gonna need to hear these songs more than once before they truly click.
I don’t at this point sorry 😅 I think I customized it for the song. Maybe I’ll add it to the library of sounds to make another video or cheatsheet for!
Thanks! I think I usually use the “MK I Close Ideal” or “MK I Low Deep” preset from the Nord library. But now on my Stage 3 I’ve been using their “Nefertiti” sample which is an even creamier Mk I sound!
I wasn't able to buy the virtual tickets for the concerts which I TOTALLY regret so thanks a lot for covering the song this is my first time listening to this The Smile's version and it's beautiful, I'm hoping they post it officially or someone post it somewhere. Anyways, this is perfect as usual covers, looking forward to the next covers and thanks Joe and Taka for making me Smile(you know what I'm saying) everytime there is a new video of both of you. P.S: Joe have you ever considered having an Eurorack Modular? It would be amazing besides the expensiveness of it. I'm fascinated with the Make Noise Black & Gold Shared Sytems Plus but they are WAY UP my allowance🤣
@@JoeEdelmann3 Cool! Once you dove down there is no escape my friend... VCV Rack 2 is a really good software to start with I'm having a lot of fun in there.
Wasn’t that Smile live show in London jaw dropping great? I was bowled over. It really made me rethink. I was feeling so cynical about how difficult everything on-line has become, from security to having to sterilize the cookies before you look at a small piece of content. Akin to filling out an endless symptom checklist in a doctors office, just so you can continue to be manipulated. Apologies for the rant but this live show restored for a moment my wishes for what I saw as it’s potential. Why am I surprised it was Thom and Johnny ……again. You continue to do difficult covers of music and do them justice. I would love you to do an interview of the deep dive you do to go to these places. Cheers!
It depends on the song! Sometimes a few weeks, sometimes a couple days! We try to coordinate each other’s schedules and time zones the best we can too 😅
We were covering the live version from their performance at the Magazine in London! There, Thom used the Rhodes electric piano instead of acoustic piano like the studio version.
omg You have your own Jonny Greenwood with you.
I've heard the smile is covering this song in their tour. so generous of you to give them permission.
Man :)
This is the greatest thom yorke voice mimic I have ever heard
Thank you

Wow fantastic 👍👍👍
I Love this song

Name a more iconic duo than Joe and Taka...okay well Thom and Jonny. But it's a close second.
I wonder how much did Taka turn on the amp volume in a Japaneese house :)
You’re doing the Lords work. Love your covers!
That's just amazing.... 🤷♂️👏👏👏
The best video in circlation of this song, from your's italian friends (and my english teacher)🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹

This was an excellent surprise to come home to today! Joe and Taka are truly legends at this stuff.
I admire you guys every single time. Captured this one beautifully, as it should be.
Nice work Joe and Taka 👍👍
super excited for this! i've loved everything the smile has done so far, but i haven't heard this song yet.
They played a whole set playing their entire album in London a month back!

Saw The Smile in London and the synthesiser sequencer went wrong after the first verse and they scrapped it. This is a great cover!
Such a beautiful song. I haven't heard a good version of the original yet but i'm guessing it sounds pretty much like this!! Amazing 🙌

You remember which patch that is on the prophet?

Wow - uncanny
Hi Joe. Just thought of this all of a sudden. Would you do a video on how to sing like Thom?
I’ve thought about it! Though I may not be the most qualified to talk technique 😂
@@JoeEdelmann3 I think you’re definitely qualified with the way you approach singing! Keep it up with the good work and fun!

Is the smile a radiohead album or not?
Not! It’s Jonny and Thom cutting loose with some new and old ideas in a rawer, almost prog-rock format!

@@JoeEdelmann3 That's a lot of dedication. Hope you and Taka aren't too burnt out!
I guess I'll ask on here: Have you and Taka considered collaborating on originals?
I would love to work on some with him! We keep so busy with the covers, but we should try sometime if he’s interested!
Why are you using a digital piano sound, its an acoustic piano?
We were covering the live version from their performance at the Magazine in London! There, Thom used the Rhodes electric piano instead of acoustic piano like the studio version.

Can we have the tab for the guitar part ?
You can't just copy/paste the audio from The Smile and think we wouldn't notice.
😉😅
That was brilliant :) Now, can't wait Speech Bubbles, The Same and Waving White Flag.
hmm
i haven't heard this one...
Would love to hear “A Hairdryer” and “Waving A White Flag”
