I watched Young Frankenstein with my son for the first time only this last weekend, just a couple of days before she passed. I watched it dozens of times growing up before even Blockbuster existed as it was one of the few movies they had at our local library. Teri Garr was only a very small part of my childhood, but she was great: funny, talented and beautiful.
You can see why Carson and Letterman loved having her on: Teri Garr effortlessly grabs your attention, she's funny, engaging and ready to go wherever the hosts want to go... And then takes it a step further. If there's a Mount Rushmore of top tier late night guests she's right up there with Martin Short, Tom Hanks and Nathan Lane.
I feel compelled to correct this information as a Monkees fan, and I’m surprised Conan was this ignorant about them. The Monkees were not allowed to play, for the most part, on their first two albums, against their will, because they could actually play from the beginning, and did play their own instruments live on their concert tours which began soon after the series premiere. Mike Nesmith could not only play guitar but was a pretty successful and first-rate songwriter before joining the group, Jones could actually play drums though they gave that job to Dolenz for commercial reasons, and Tork was a very accomplished multi-instrumentalist, on guitar, bass, banjo, all keyboards and a number of brass instruments who did play guitar on Nesmith’s songs on the first album, at Nesmith’s request and unbeknownst to Don Kirshner. And by the time of Head, they’d played their own gear on three previous albums, supplemented by other musicians as were many bands then but that they didn’t play their own instruments at all especially by the time of Head in 1968 is a myth I’m surprised to see perpetuated here thirty years later. It wouldn’t be important except that they not only played them, they were pretty good at it.
Poor Teri-she is SO underrated. Even when they realise how amazing she is, she is STILL underrated. One of the funniest most talented actresses and funniest performers ever.
I saw "Head" on TV in the mid 80s. I watched it because I read that Frank Zappa was in it and I play the guitar. Apart from Frank Zappa being in it for 3 seconds, I remember a girl who died from a snake bite - she was absolutely gorgeous and died in a very funny way and back then, it took ages to find out who that was. Needless to say it started off a whole thing for Teri Garr. Vale.
RIP Teri Garr 11/12/1944-29/10/2024 I remember her most from Young Frankenstein and Close Encounters of the Third Kind Also, “From the people that gave you Head” is just brilliant 😂
.....and to top it all off, she was always great on these shows, especially Letterman. Just rewatched The Conversation, she was fantastic in that. Of course Close Encounters Of The Third Kind......and Oh God! The same year! Tootsie. After Hours. Young Frankenstein. Mr. Mom. Always great.
Ikr. I'm 45 and have known who she was since the mid-'80s but I never considered how similar to Kudrow she is. Voice and all. Wild. Maybe seeing her next to Conan makes it more obvious. RIP Mrs. Jack Butler.
@conanobrien Please return back to upload multiple videos a week. There's still so much fun Late Night content left that you could generate TH-cam cash for the next 50-odd years with 2-3 uploads a week. Again, please upload more than 1 video per week. Thanks! Also, if you could upload Maggie Gyllenhaal's December 10th 2003 appearance, it would be great! You could remove movie clips from interviews, if licensing is issue. Thanks!
Teri Garr's personal life, or more specifically her love-life, appears to have been a trainwreck. Every time the topic comes up, whether here or on Letterman, she races through it at great speed, implying tons of trauma in a few rushed words.
I have to say, I've always loved Teri Garr, but now that she's died and I've watched all these tributes, she seems a little bitter and vindictive and not so funny really. Bless youTeri I hope you're in a better place.
she was always a good actor. beautiful as well. RIP Ms. Garr - you will be missed.
I'm trying to remember when everyone started referring to actresses as "actors".
She was one of the most Gorgeous actresses. God bless her. 💔

There over 3,000 man made gods on earth.

Conan has the best time capsules. Thanks for sharing. 🙏❤️
She was ALWAYS a great guest. Lovely and funny.
Great interview on both sides. You can see how much improved Conan was as an interviewer by this time as Teri kept you on your toes.

R.I.P. to Teri Garr. I always thought she was very pretty, since the original Star Trek that she was in. Best Wishes to her friends and family. ❤
First time I saw her was Trek when I was a kid. Then as a recurring police woman character, also comedic, on McCloud.
I think it's safe to say that Teri Garr was universally beautiful.
Poor Teri-she is SO underrated. Even when they realise how amazing she is, she is STILL underrated. One of the funniest most talented actresses and funniest performers ever.
She was always so captivating to watch. Big fan.

Incredible good person. Very will liked.
I love how jaded/funny she was...
She was quirky and beautiful and unbelievably charming. A rare combination these days.
She was Star Trek TOS too. VERY Young. 18ish? 🖖
Born in December 1944, she was 23 when that Star Trek episode (Assignment: Earth) first aired in Marsh 1968.
Teri, you were so wonderful to watch, you're missed already.
Beautiful and fun!😊😊 and talented… she will be missed….😢
She was a delight.
They were all so young.
Head is a great movie, very trippy, funny and contains some of The Monkees' best songs. And of course Teri stands out although her part is very small.
RIP🙏❤️
It's like Lisa Kudrow's mom...? She's awesome
Ikr. I'm 45 and have known who she was since the mid-'80s but I never considered how similar to Kudrow she is. Voice and all. Wild. Maybe seeing her next to Conan makes it more obvious. RIP Mrs. Jack Butler.
She played her mom on friends right?
RIP Ms. Garr 😞
She's Teri-fic!
Frank Gorshen 🤣
Naturally Beautiful.
The John Travolta was "Michael" in which he played an angel. It was not good but I'm sure Ms. Garr was a delight.

She is basically in two scenes of the film, ‘Let It Ride’ - she completely steals the scenes from Dick Dreyfuss. RIP
She really was quirky and her own person. Very singular. RIP.

Teri is a dream. Conan is a loud 13-year-old, always has been. Unfortunate. RIP Teri 💜
What knockers
Blaming feminism for the downfall of society. Very very based. It’s true.
Conan's the worst.
