You should have showcased their upgraded configurations rather than their stuck ones. Most stock trucks struggle in rough terrain. It's a given a Derry Loghorn with highway tires isn't great on mud.
The Derry along with the Navistar are my two main saddle low trucks, and both are capable. Try putting OHD I offroad tires on the Derry rather than highway tires then do a mud run. And it's funny you say it's unstable and prone to tipping over, you then show a clip where you fall off the wooden bridge and STILL can't get it to roll over. Um, where's the instability you were talking about? lol Cause it's looking pretty damn stable to me. And no it's efficiency isn't one of the worse, Navistar burns far more fuel, as the Paystar 5600 and a number of other trucks. In my experience the Derry is actually pretty decent on fuel. I will give you the engine isn't the strongest, it's one of those trucks where low range gears are often your friend. But drive it right, and it'll get a lot done. Can't be too mad at the CAT, a lot of people underestimate or just don't like that thing. But you got me in definitive mode now with the Derry Longhorn 3194. I'm not letting you slander that truck when I use it often and am very aware of what it's capable of doing. The CAT I can let slide, but the Derry, nah man. You're not getting away with that. I'd put one of the Freightliners on here, oven the ANK long before the Derry. Hell how is the Derry here but not the Tatra 805? That things tippy as hell, has no auto winch, and can only haul large trailers which it's much too small to haul. There is no way that thing is better than the Derry. lol
Hard disagree on Derry Longhorn 3194, it has always on AWD and diff lock, and is one of the only heavy trucks with low saddle that can also equip chains for rocks and ice, this truck with the top engine, Highrange box, OHDI's and a loaded semi-trailer will barrel through mud and snow, all the while covering a large distance for the fuel used.
I love these trucks. They show you the skill of a driver. Granted there are places where absolutely they shouldn't go, but man it is a dopamine hike when you go through some parts with these trucks...
Had many a struggle sessions with ‘incorrect’ vehicles…wasted lots of time…but damn was the feeling good once I’ve achieved what I set out to do indeed 👍🏾
Same. I still haven't finished everything. I log in, enjoy the session in peace, slowly with some trucker music, take my time..... this is my zen game if ever was one.....😊
Have to agree. I started trucking with the 57X recently for fun and more of a challenge. If I have a long mostly road haul I’ll use it. With raised suspension and chained tires there’s some decent uses for it in Alaska
I remember when Yukon just came out and people where struggling and complaining on pulling the Cat770G trailer with the then some of the most OP trucks. And i just cruised through it with a Transtar that only had off roads on cause i was too broke to fully upgrade it. god did that ruffle some feathers on the subreddit
As others have mentioned, a fully upgraded Derry 3 is a decent semi tractor. The bizarre thing is how you justified your dismissal of it: driving on a test map that doesn't reflect most of the actual game's terrain, and getting stuck in the Black River north crossing. The only reason you'd ever take that route in any truck is if you were a brand new player and didn't know any better! 🤦
All of these vehicles have purposes. Sure they are probably the "worst" in the game at offroad, but they can be great with offroad tires and if used on specific roads. I love using the highway trucks for the challenge as well. To each their own, but too many people discredit these trucks. For simulation purposes i even use the forklift to load trailers. Just takes a little getting used to. I transport it with a trailer to different warehouses.
So just because you can't drive them doesn't make those not good trucks. The derry always felt stable to me, hell I've taken the little ford places you wouldn't believe, just loose the highway tires and put some weight on the drive wheels.
The worst truck is the 770G, if you want a fuel truck you can sell it and buy a couple of GMC9500's and fuel add-ons, and still have cash left over.... other than the Yukon special mission trailer it is completely pointless.
Nope, no pointless, it's my favourite truck in whole game and I'm really serious. I use it as a recovery truck + mobile petrol station and it can move EVERYTHING. I hauled fully loaded Femm with disabled engine with this CAT even on uphill. It have monstrous power
@@VCN01 Glad you enjoy it, perhaps pointless is the wrong term, however it is massively impractical and not very capable when it comes to game progress. I play Hard Mode and as soon as it's Yukon mission is done it will be sold.
Was using both the 57x and the derry longhorn last night in Alaska for the same delivery then I see this today. They both have some good applications. Makes the game more enjoyable using less capable trucks sometimes
I have used the Derry Longhorn before, and I'll say it's a good truck to have if you know how to use it. It may not be the strongest powerhouse, but it holds its own, as a tank hualer should, and it always on AWD and DIFF can make you go through a fair amount. Not mention its a stable truck as this video shows, (it fell off the bridge but remained upright) plus the only time it fell on its side was back in the old glitchy days when the game was name (form season 4 or before i think) and although I'd people say that the newer longhorn is better not to be the case for me for a modern day tank hualer its really underpowered. So yea the Derry longhorn isn't the best butbits faaar form the worst.
Derry longhorn is a absolute beast if a truck just don’t take it in deep mude it’s great at low saddle and pretty good at high Sattle it has a pretty strong engine and is incredibly stable and also has 370L fuel tank one of my fav trucks
I agree with the big Cat and 57x but not with the other ones . I mean come on ,Derry? I use it all the time and i have beat Kola Peninsula with this big boy.
I use the CLT 9000 and the Western start 57x fairly consistently and with upgrades they do just fine. And the Cat Telehandler without the fork is the best rock crawler in the game. I use it to recover trucks all the time. This video just seeme like someone with skill issues or using trucks wrong.
With the severe lack of suitably paved highways in SR, I'm surprised they even bothered having highway trucks. Except for mod maps, I don't think I've seen a single point to point mission where you didn't have to go off road through mud because of road damage. Also, the Cat 770G is virtually useless. On the map where you have to pull the 2 big heavy rock trailers, it can't handle the deep water you must cross and can't climb the icy hill roads. I ended up downloading a mod version of it that has AWD, locked diff and actual snow tires.
yeah I used the heavy wrecker mod and towed the 770G + trailer from pickup to destination for both tasks (on console so no CAT mods allowed due to licensing).
First two are some of my favorite rigs…I don’t use them for regular maps but for the modded highway regions. Not meant for this game off road wise but still fun to use if a map has enough paved roads
I usually don't recommend modding but for this game it's a MUST. Mod all trucks to have realistic specs (Weight, weight distribution, power, suspension, tire sizes and wheelbase, realistic type of tires). Mod all trailers and cargos to have realistic weights. Mod tires to have realistic grip and stiffness. What you get is a much much better, more realistic experience and you'd be surprised how much more useful some otherwise useless trucks become, and how weak some overpowered trucks become. I absolutely LOVE the good ol' Longhorn. Paired with it's realistic heavy duty lowboy, it can haul any truck, anywhere. I have made my own mods. You'd be surprised at just how easy it is. It took me more time to research the specs of the real vehicles, than to actually mod the game. But there are some really good game overhaul mods out there. Some guys even managed to make mud more realistic.
The 1st truck, you absolutely do not need to avoid using it, it might not be the best in any place but it's not bad, you have to take your path with your mind, not just drive any route or lines. Also I've taken big heavy cargo with the semi, give it a try, I'd say it's more of a skill vehicle. Every other truck on the list I agree with.
220000 torque on the WS 57X is low torque?? Personally I find it to be a solid truck (for a highway truck anyway) with the AWD upgrade it has now. Used it a fair amount on the Scandinavia and North Carolina regions since they aren't as extreme as some other maps. it does bump into things very easily but just be mindful of your driving and it should handle any "normal" off-road terrain just fine. Not sure what you mean with the CAT TH357 tho, that is actually one of the best offroader scouts in the game. Is stable as heck and plows through anything but water (cause cats hate water), even the extreme blue snow is merely a speed bump for it. Only real downside is the lack of any (useful) utility.
I’m suprised the paystar did not make the list as its fuel cusumption is poor and it’s gutless with anyload as I found out on the quarry map while moving medium logs.
The Ford has to be my favorite truck but yet it is probably the worst to do stuff since it is not an all wheel drive truck and also the tires really suck
It got raised suspension in one update, but you're right. The Transtar (and all highway trucks in general) need to be buffed because they're basically useless.
Seems strange to showcase how useless the trucks are while having them use the worst tires in the game. The Derry Longhorn for instance is actually really good in mud when you give it good tires. But in fact all of them in your list, minus the Ford, are quite capable when given good tires. Strange you didn't include the Transtar in this list.

It's for variety and Challenge
Because they expect you to do all of the side tasks where you clear the roads and build bridges.
They are very useful in newest regions with clear roads like Austria or Scandinavia
