Thank you for the helpful video! However, I am stuck at a previous step. I removed the 4 screws that attach the motor but the motor does not come out. Is it blocked with Loctite or something?? Did you use an extractor to remove the motor?
I don't remember it being hard to separate but then I did 4 years as an aircraft mechanic... You need to pull it straight but loosen it by rocking the motor side to side as you do. Failing that, if it's still on the bike with the driver side crank attached, try turning the crank forward and back as you pull. Even rock the bike a bit too disengage the gears a bit. I took my motor of the bike first. And failing all that, take the plastic cover off the drive side and give the small drive gear a couple of taps with a flat punch. Getting the seal back on is a bit tricky though No locktite or sealant on mine
I suspect that my helical gear shaft may be damaged, in your video, it comes out very easily when you pull out the gear. Do you know how you originally got it out, did you just have to apply a lot of force?
Same issue here. I actually managed to pull the blue part of the gear off, but the metal part remains stuck on the shaft and the shaft doesn’t get out even with repeated punches on the other side. Did you eventually manage to get the shaft out?
Derek help I'm stuck trying to get the motor off too, can't seem to rock it or budge it after taking out the 4 countersunk screws. Do I need to go to the gym and work out my muscles first ?
This is probably only useful for new owners. You remove the moor from the housing by placing a piece of 1 x 2 or smaller piece of wood under the lip of the motor & tapping it loose in 3 or 4 places. Then the motor will wiggle free of the housing.
Thanks for the video. Do you recommend the upgrade to brass gear (for peace of mind) overall? Is it really louder? And last question what type of grease do you use? Thanks

Now both gears will wear out. but slower? why not just make teh gears biggger and from plastic?

Definitely upgrade, not much louder and not worried about stripped gears anymore. Just used normal wheel bearing grease
Hi! Thank you so much for making this video.
Where can i buy the metal gear?
