This sure brings the memories back for me. I ran the same model chipper for Rothig in the late nineties. That machine would beat me all day long and I'd be stone deaf by lunchtime if I forgot my hearing protection. Changing knives and chains, greasing, maintenance, and the myriad breakdowns kept me busy. It was a beautiful experience for a 19 year old to have and that big 12 was intoxicating at WOT. Thank you for the video.
Man you sure know how to put a smile on Alex's and any other true diesel nut's face as well, revving the 6 standing right by the muffler. Then opening the window while pouring coal to the V12, It's simply awesome to listen to for guys that understand the illness we have . I always find when I go from the never equipment here to the older stuff, I appreciate what the guys that drove it new went through everyday they worked it. I also appreciate the opportunity way more of getting to drive the newer stuff . All the new goodies fitted now, many of the old guys that are gone or can't work because that old stuff messed them up are great Like quiet Cabs, AC/ heat, radio, electro hyds instead of clunky levers and some different types of transmissions without heavy clutch pedals. Thanks for sharing, see ya next time.
We ran a Morbark in the 80's.It had a 650 horse Cummins and didn't have a flail. Had a short apron in front with a drag chain. We had a couple guys with saws who worked the large stuff to break it down before it went in. Chipped a brand new Husky saw one day when the guy sat it on the apron and the operator didn't see it and threw a pull on top of it. Boss was pissed to say the least. Good video. Brings back memories........
Old iron separates the girls from the boys!!!Great job John.Fresh paint and fancy smancy!!dont make any more money.Just loved it..Put that rotobec on your new rig!
You have another great video on your channel of it cranking up and it's on my favorites playlist. The first and only chipper the size of the one that you use that I've ever seen was a Morbark similar to the one you have there. And I saw it because the school that my mom used to work at was removing some major trees so they could get to the sewers underneath because they needed a major overhaul. They had some cat skidders that they were loading it up with and the chipper would just devoured them.
Have a suggestion John, on the Prentiss, the big steel block that's causing you relentless cracking and weld breaks, have you considered replacing it with a large rubber block to cushion the steel plate when it's lowered. Serves the same purpose without damaging the slides.
oooo that is a sweet sound when she fires up, you guys run some serious gear which is rare to see over here in the UK, makes my 8" brush chipper look like a kids garden toy! 👍
love the chipper.....my friend has a small mobark for his tree business. 80 hp gas I guess. it's one tough beast though. Great vids.....keep the grease to her...haha
You straight pipe that 12 and you'd kick all the cab windows out just so you wouldn't miss one pop of that rig. And if I even GOT my feet up there they'd have to get a crane to get me out, AFTER they cut the top of the cab off. Blessings, John!
Lol great vid pard glad to see you can still get in your learning macheine once in awhile FO sho and kick it Ole school!! Boy howdy do I know how it is as well and uhhg it sure makes us apretiate the new stuff!! lol
The old girl chooches pretty good when you wind her up. Do you wear spurs and chaps and a big belt buckle when you pilot that machine. Does she make better chips the more you spur her. Seriously ,sounds like a good back-up machine. PS they say Better Made makes the best chips in Michigan, Morbark is second. Thanks John, Ride em cowboy, Yee Haw. KIT doug lot drier over here.
