All valuations were correct at the time of broadcast. After living with cowboys in the wild west, the talented Frederic Remington turned his Wild West sketches into models made from clay. Hugh Scully and the experts from Antiques Roadshow take a look at some fantastic antiques and the history and stories surrounding them. This clip was filmed in Keswick in 2000.

Statues attributed to Remington are almost always fakes. He is so beloved in the parts of the central and western US that it's hard to quantify. If you want to see works by Remington, come to my hometown of Tulsa to the Gilcrease Art Museum, where there are at least 25 pieces by Remington and where the entire theme of the museum is Western (US) artwork.

in the lare 80's in my late teens we took a family trop to Remingtons museum im Ogdensburg NY. ai was awstruck . The most captivating part for me was his study . When entering the room you could almost swear he had just stepped out of the room just moments before. In the corner of the room was a big vase with his canes and umbrellas in it and there was a huge feathered Native headress with a bow and quiver of arrowes and hanging at the top of the bow were 3 real human scalps . And i thought to myself ... hey if he comes back into the room id love to ask him to share the story of the 3 scalps. What a life he must have lead out there in th3 Wild west!

Remington was a fraud! Charles M. Russell “the Cowboy Artist” is/was the real deal and his art shows the very fact that Charlie LIVED what he painting and sculpted. CMR is the GREATEST Western Artist to have lived.

Seems like a popular piece. If it's so popular and well known and was at an auction, the price he paid would tell all.

How can he possibly put a value on something that is either , spurious, or historically important , he gave both ends of the scale , now for a trip to a chemist .

Us older folks think to ourselves what were they doing out at that hour. Then remember we were young once and were out at that time sometimes. Such a shame. Just hope it was a total instant passing for all three.
