Top notch video guys! Great to have L&H back too! As soon as I saw the title I thought "yeah quite probably but i haven't been to FoD yet", honestly 😊 FoD plus BPW road trip on the horizon. Re Grizedale forest, have ridden lots on the great bridleways there, really good for anyone red grade ability I think, got a Best (?) Bridleways of Grizedale vid in the planning (formulated a route just need to go ride and film it).
Thank you very much! Much appreciated! I was going to get in touch with you about doing a winter ride. What you feel to be the best Yorkshire winter MTB ride. I can’t find you on instagram (easier to chat on that).
@MindfulTrailBiker Sorry mate don't know how I've missed your message, I see you've recently rode the Jacobs ladder route with Jonathan which is definitely a good one and probably the one I would of recommended 👍, yeah not on Instagram just utube.
Thanks Gavdog! Appreciate the kind words, lots more time in the editing sweet and a bit more concentration and patience when filming. I’m trying to improve all the time! 🙏
Whinlatter is one of those places that's dependably enjoyable. You can go there any weather and you're pretty much gonna get the ride that was in your head. In the nicest possible way, it's the Skoda of trail centres.
Another great edit guys, liking the new graphics and the drone segways. Some very good memories of Whinlatter, think it was 2008 when I first rode there, south loop hadn’t long been open, shamefully admit that I only ever use to access Grisedale Pike and beyond these days though. Look forward to the next instalment 🤙🏻
Thank you very much! We want to keep improving and really showcase the “vibe” of a day out on bikes! There’s no shame in sticking to the pike loop, it’s an amazing route! 🙌
I'm lucky to live less than 30 mins away from here, lost count of how many laps I've done but it never gets boring- the trails are amazing and the scenery equally so. The only places I've found on a similar level of greatness are Penmachno and Coed- Y- Brenin.
Thanks for watching buddy! Very lucky to be so close for sure! Coed y Brenin is superb fun, much larger collection of trails! I’ve not ridden penmachno for years, last time went I got no less than 4 punctures (bad tyres with tubes) and vowed never to go back 🤣
Great edit, love the drone footage and the mindful moment is a great addition! Definitely want to get back to Whinlatter to see more of it and maybe tackle grisdale pike
I know where we are going next. Grizedale is a shame. Was there is the summer and the bike shop wants to do stuff to improve the trails but it’s not easy apparently.
@@paulmcculloch2002 Awesome Paul. Yeah grizedale is a real shame, I can’t work out what them problem is. It was very busy and is still busy with folk riding bridleway and off piste tracks. But the loop could and should be awesome!
I’m a bit embarrassed to say I’ve never rode the off piste tracks at whinlatter. Need to fix that soon. It seems the forestry make a fair attempt to discourage and Trailforks doesn’t encourage either. Are they worth the effort?
@MindfulTrailBiker So, on the north, when you get to the midway point (the right hander that opens out with a view to the left) where the mound is on the right (I've a video of it on my channel from a while ago), take the track that runs off the left before going round the right bend. That takes you on a rutty chute through the trees and then follows to the right that takes you down to the fire road climb (you can see where you come out when on the climb. Steep, rooty ending). About 50-100mtrs, along from here, and to the right off the fire road climb is the entrance to another couple. These are MUCH steeper, loamy, and definitely get the heart rate going! Although, one of these (the first you come to sometimes has a couple of fallen trees over it near the start. There were a couple more on the south side (when taking the fire road to the left back to the midway point). But, these got wrecked during the logging.
@ thanks for that, I’ll have a look at your vids. The exits are easily spotted on the south loop but the entrances are kinda fenced off so thanks for the heads up on these! 👍
Top notch video. I've only been to Whinlatter once and it was the best bike day ever. The blue is the best intermediate trail I've done, and the final north descent was the best trail I'd done, until I did the south!! I absolutely loved the zen flow, I really felt in tune with it.
Boom 💥 you’ve just described whinlatter perfectly! Zen flow in spades, the reds are incredible and as you said the blue is likely the best in England. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Great video, and what a fun place to visit. I'm going to take the bait ;) For my unsolicited opinion, it's a toss up between Cannock, Gisburn and Whinlatter. Cannock is closer to home, so we tend to work it into a travel day during bike trips. FoD is pretty good, but nothing special. The downhills runs are good, but as a trail, it's a bit weak. Their blue is a blast, but the red is disappointing (and I'm an ex-XC racer who loves a climb). Whinlatter suffers from being so close to the Scottish border, as does FoD with Wales, and the Celtic trails are on another level. Saying that, I love riding anywhere - living in Norfolk, you learn to even love Thetford Forest, and it's 10ft of climbing!
Thanks dude! Appreciate the kind words. That’s a great synopsis of your favourite places to ride. I’ve not ridden cannock chase for a long while, perhaps due a revisit. It struggles a bit with elevation but I do remember it being fun to ride for sure. Gisburn is unique but doesn’t hold up on the descending front compared to whinlatter. I’m intrigued re FOD, but your right, we tend to go to bike park wales or other trails if we are going south. Cheers for the comment!
Gisburn, alas, is starting to get a bit knackered but I’ve never understood the hate it seems to get, usually. A great cross countryesque trail centre. Whinlatter though? I was there last year, it was glorious weather. Sent a pal a pic & he replied “you’ve gone abroad?” I’ve been to n the winter & still - as you say - just a great place to be. Bike hires good too (put a spoke thru the rim on first bit of descent so treated myself ) Waffling now but good vid pal. Give Hugo a scratch from me
@chrismitchell7280 I’m a gisburn fan too, it’s defo got unique charm! Whinlatter views are unreal aren’t they? Is this Chris Mitchel - ex Cartwright by any chance?
Go to Fod it’s like a different culture down there compared to all the other forestry sites rangers that ride mtb supported volunteers, they’ve had On Track and Velo working on projects this year and that’s pretty standard, Cannock’s my local and I’ve done a dig day at Fod.
@ I think part of it is the cycle centre at Fod and it’s trails have its own site, there’s another centre for walking running and more family stuff go ape and all that.
@@elvingtonred hey man, thanks for watching! 🙏 That top black section was very puddly, the rest was ok really! Didn’t detract from the experience! Defo some work needed in sections

you definitely need to go to FOD its awesome

@MindfulTrailBiker We don't go much now, it's a 2.5hr drive there. The downhills are some of the best at any trail centre ( without the puddles mind)
