  • Proper lighting is so important when it comes to growing indoors. You must have proper lighting for seedlings to grow well. In this video, I will demonstrate why it is so important to have the corret amount of light when starting seeds for hydroponic.

I wish I had seen this before my first efforts to start seedlings. My first attempts were tomato seeds that became very leggy. When I transplanted them they wilted and died. I love seeing your videos and they have taught me alot. I also appreciate the efforts to use simple and affordable materials.

    • @jeffsullivan3362

Fortunately with tomatoes you can transplant them deeper and they will recover from the legginess as long as they get good light. Not so with peppers.

Khang, I have a suggestion for you.
Dig 4 holes in the rock wool - then put 1 seed into each hole.
By doing this, you can transplant 4 plants into 4 individual growing containers.

I also ordered the Maxigro because of this video, I got a good deal and 2nd best plant on algae growth for this vid and not a blend.

The plant out side the the light cuases it to stretch searching for light .that's is why it's improper but it will still produce food light and oxygen and nutrients is all you need and let the plant do its thing 🪨 rockwell cubes are a great way to start seedings thanks for the short tutorial about rockwell cubes.

I'm growing aquaponically in an outdoor green house, but I am having trouble starting seeds. This looks like a good way, but should I use the light that I have for 24 hours or for the normal daylight cycle? I live I the Bahamas and we have good long days of bright sun. Do I need to use the light at all, or will the outdoor sunlight be sufficient? Or should I use both to extend daylight for a few days?

I know you grow a lot of peppers and I was wondering how you keep them hot in hydroponics. We grew some jalapenos (not as hot as most of your peppers but its what we like) in soil this year and they got so much water they turned out sweet (we live in NY so not too many high temperature days). We are trying to grow some spanish habaneros using the kratky method, but looking back at the jalapenos are they going to turn out sweet because they are grown in water? Thanks!

I'm using window light/sun light for my mason jar katsky method. They get too heavy and not strong like yours.

Have u had success doing hydroponics with natural light from just a window?

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes, but not just a window. Unless you can get at least 5-6 hours of direct sunlight, your plants will stretch on a window sill. Here's my hydroponic outdoors th-cam.com/video/h_LP3Qq1N38/w-d-xo.html

"Hydroponic light" = GE brand 15 watt LED bulb, approximately 1600 lumen or "100 watt equivalent to 'hot light'". 2 pack...5.00. Get yourself one of those utility light with the aluminium "salad bowl" (built in reflector) attached for 18.00-20.00. Get a cheap 10.00 timer.
      15 watts X 16 hours a day = 270 watts per day used. +8Kw/month...$1.60 per month.

Thanks for the video Khangg. I started some pepper seeds in the 1 inch rockwool cubes and after they sprouted I put the cubes in little cups surrounded by a peat moss/perlite mixture. But they seem to be growing slow and now I noticed some white fungus/spores on top of the mixture so I sprinkled cinnamon on top and have only been bottom watering when needed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i thought for seeds to germinate they need to be in darkness? after they grow for a bit then expose to light. but you are saying the seeds need to be in strong light to germinate? If i do hydroponics do i need grow light if i can expose them to sunlight from window during the day/

All seeds grow in the dark naturally, with few exceptions.

Germination doesn't require much light, but after they sprouted, 8-10 hrs works well.

I usually place clay pebbles on top of the rockwool

You use things you have around the house... who has rockwool lying around the house? I mean sure if you start pulling it out of the walls, but otherwise?
