Fun fact: Hamilton didn't think Philip would go to the duel. At this point he had been involved in around ten duels that didn't get to the point where anybody shot. When he found out that Philip even showed up to the duel he was so shocked he fainted.
@@notestasiskis I'm not sure which it true, but I've also heard that eaker didn't shoot at all but aimed at the sky, but had a muscle spasm and shot on accident. I'll have to do a bit more research and see what happened.
@@notestasiskis I've heard that they both reached ten and stuff there because neither wanted to shoot. But when Philip started to ride his gun to the sky George thought Philip was going to shoot him and fired first
In the musical, the character who tells Philip is "just up Broadway a couple of blocks," that's The Bullet. Keep an eye on her when you watch the show. She's a harbinger of death.
Ha! Guess he forgot that it was the Ancient Greeks who made tragedies, comedies, and satyr famous. Or that Shakespeare wrote his plays as recently as...the late 1500s- early 1600s ;-)
The first couple of years that Hamilton was on Broadway, tickets were going for $1500 or more on the secondary market. And in Fall 2016 Hamilton tickets cost more than World Series tickets. No joke! The baseball commentators made jokes about it during the games.
I've been absolutely loving this series. I first saw a Hamilton bootleg (I know, I'm sorry. I'm disabled and I live in the UK) and the audio was terrible. So I couldn't work out what was going on and felt very underwhelmed. I gave it another go by listening to the album, following the lyrics and because I'm a History nerd, I looked into Hamilton's life. I was blown away, not just by the story, but by the genius of Lin-Manuel Miranda. I signed up to Disney+ as soon as the film was released and watched it over and over again. My cat looks at me as if I'm bonkers when I randomly (to him) yell, "I'm takin' this horse by the reins, making redcoats redder with blood stains! Lafayette!!" Watching someone else fall in love with Hamilton makes me so happy. I think the moment you were (for me) drawn into the whole thing and not just analysing the music was in, 'Say No To This'. You were disappointed (as I think we all were) that Hamilton cheated on Eliza. To really get the most out of the film, when you finish the series, but before the Patreon thing, I'd really get to know the lyrics and who is saying what. I would like to join you on Patreon, not sure how to do it though and I can't get WhatsApp to work on my Mac. I'll have a go and see if I can join Patreon, fingers crossed. Thank you so much, Jacob. I wasn't expecting this video until tomorrow, so I'm glad I found it. But like other commenters, I kind of had my heart in my mouth, knowing how shockingly this song ends. I haven't actually watched the video yet, so I'll shut up and let you get on with it lol.
its interesting you thought having plays in the 1700s was surprising. like there are earlier famous examples of play writes like Shakespeare. and there's been theatres for plays dating back to the 5th centaury
Just a response to “who knew there were plays in the 1700s. Shakespeare famously lived in the 1500s. Modern theater was also “invented” in Ancient Greece
Disney - you are getting to see the Original Broadway Cast who all the left the show in 2016. It was filmed over a Sunday and Tuesday performance and they did closeups on the Monday in between.
I have been loving your reactions. It has revived my love for just how the music is just so good on so many levels. As a fellow musician and music major from school, I love the little explanations. Thank you!
Shows like Hamilton and Wicked, which have made back their initial investment several times over, will be fine but I’m worried about the future of smaller shows like Prom, The Great Comet, even Tony Winners like Hadestown. This shutdown is going to cripple Broadway for awhile. I believe more people saw a Broadway show in 2019 then saw all NY sports teams combined and they say Broadway still lost 100 million dollars. I could be wrong about those numbers but Broadway lost a lot of money in 2019 when shows were still running. Market correction: Hamilton, when it first opened, packed them in and people who traveled to NYC to try to see it and couldn’t get tickets often would go to other shows so there was an all around boom which must be followed by an all around bust.
Tickets on Broadway were super expensive (several hundreds) but there are other touring companies whose performances are being rescheduled for 2022 ( maybe earlier in some places).in cities across North America.
If you download the Hamilton app you can enter the lottery for a chance to win $10 tickets (usually in the first two rows) when it reopens on Broadway. That’s how I was able to see it back in February
wow. I didn't see this coming.
Hamilton’s son in this song is named Philip and Hamilton had like 9 total children
@@PandaPerson-nd2rj including a son named after Phillip
When Hamilton said “Philip your mother can’t take another heartbreak” it’s because her sister Peggy died earlier that year
Oh wow
Not to mention the Reynolds Pamphlet.

I remember reading somewhere that Phillip would count in french to calm his nerves, but the guy misheard "sept" as ten and that's why he fired early.

Who knew there were plays in the 1800s (Nobody tell him about Shakespeare)
@Meredith Jiang I couldn't help myself. LOL. Theater predates Christianity!
Who knew there were plays back then? Dude, plays have been around since the beginning of civilization.
Ha! Guess he forgot that it was the Ancient Greeks who made tragedies, comedies, and satyr famous. Or that Shakespeare wrote his plays as recently as...the late 1500s- early 1600s ;-)
I think he's referring to "plays" being a consumable resource in America/NY, the US was like struggling to be a country back then 😀
This is my favorite song in the show. It’s so under-appreciated.
I have a hard time listening to it, knowing where it’s going.
🙏🏼
Makes me too sad

Yeah, Hamilton tickets cost $4,000-5,000 at its height...
We're finally at Blow us all Away, aka the time I shut off the musical on rewatches, lol.

Reasonably good tickets are $300-500 and a lot of performances of Hamilton you have to buy tickets months or even even a year in advance.
woah
