Hinting that Clive survived and wrote about his adventures because Clive said it himself that he use that quill given to him by Harpocrates. He would of used Joshua's name to honour him.

When you play the side quest where you go with torgal back to the tree house and Clive realizes torgal was searching for him for all those years and how he was always loyal to him, Clive's death must have been really painful for our poor boy 😢.

Soken has years of experience from FF14 and knows that all he needs to get players sobbing is adding lyrics to the music at the right moment Works like a charm, a critical hit in the feels
Amanda Achen is the singer, and she does some incredible stuff for FF14 as well. If you haven't played it and don't intend to, check out "Flow" and "Tomorrow and Tomorrow" from FF14's soundtrack, same composer and singer (Masayoshi Soken and Amanda Achen) and they're both amazing at what they do 🙏 EDIT: I should also add that Keiko, the pianist on this track, also features in both of those FFXIV tracks and is also super amazing too!
I love how even though FF16 already had a song by a high-profile artist to go at the end of the game, Soken clearly said, “Too bad. I’ve had a woman with an angelic voice singing beautiful piano reprises at the end of everything I’ve worked on for the past 10 years, and that ain’t changing now. You can play yours after mine is done.”

Which make this theme for my the best Final Fantasy Insert song of all time.: In the english dub, My star make Clive's death one of if not the most Tragic death in gaming history with that freaking piano and lyrics! Him dying ALONE like that!? Just after losing his baby brother, griefing his death, cleaning his body, recalling every moment with him!? After everything he's been through!? Not being able to rejoin with Jill!? Naaaah that's not fair and My Star really enhance that feeling times infinite. And Jill's crying make it so sad and beautifull with the rise of the hope for a better tomorrow represented by the Dawn. But in the Jap Dub, My Star make the conclusion of the game SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TRAGIC! Like you unlock the bad end of the game and that's the ONLY ONE AVAILABLE! And that's why that one is killing me. The ending with the japanese dub is the most tragic end in gaming the heavy piano playing while the sun rise, with jill crying and hugging Torgal, then Clive say that it's how our journey about the Mother-Crystal ended... then the song start with the credit naaaaaa... the feeling of tragedy it gives you, and that really fit the theme of the game: the world is a beautifull but tragic place where whatever happen to you or your people and no matter how horrible the night might be, the sun will keep rising and men will keep moving forward.
I overall prefer the English version of the credits with how this song fits (and even syncs) with the whole scene but I do find it nice how the Japanese version has this song start with Jill looking toward the sun, with Clive being “her star”

Not to mention the book, the pen from Tomes. I’m open to all interpretations until they come out with dlc or something. But even the Metia star plays a part here imo. Jill prays on the Star for his safe return. But Clive and friends are the reason for his safe return home every time. This time though, Clive survive what should have been un-livable. The metia star grants Jill’s wish of protecting Clive and disappears for two reasons. One is the symbolism of what I just described and then the more literal interpretation of Clive destroying their connection the magical world. I’m kinda trimming the fat off of what should be a more detailed explanation. But I dunno.

Absolutely agree. I’ve played them all since 4, and while i respect peoples opinions on preferring the more traditional FF gameplay…but saying this game isn’t a true FF as many have is just too far, and kind of disingenuous. Imo this is my favorite FF hands down, and Clive has become my favorite protagonist as well. Every FF is gonna resonate more with different people, that’s why they are always different worlds and stories. Imo true FF fans would give this game the respect it deserves✌️
I cannot begin to express how this ending made me feel. The scene where Jill is looking at the horizon along with Torgal, and dawn suddenly breaks; I remembered her words in her final side quest: "That no matter how terrible the night... dawn would always come." It broke me.
This is the only final fantasy game that brought me to tears. One of the last sidequests i did was with Gav and Jill. Man, when Gav couldn't hold it together, after seeing Jill and Torgal run off, i just lost it. I wish we could get more of that ending. I think Clive deserved most of all to have a happy ending with Jill
After Clive called him his brother just before. The really did wonders with the facial expression of gav in that moment. Contrasted with the beauty of the birth of a new life was just...overwhelming
I'm 37 grown ass adulte. Whene i finished the game and saw this scene i broke into tears. No little tears i mean genuin flood gates where open. My daughter saw that and tried to confort me 😂 Words can not express how much i loved this game, this story, These characters. Seeing jill and torgal cry broke me for real. The looks on clive face when he passes out is so real i cant shake it out of my mind. And now, few days laters i m listening to this sobing. This is art. Who give a F about some minor details and fetch quest whene the main story can shake you to your core !? This is Final fantasy.

A beautiful game about legacy and the human spirit. The good and the bad But what’s more beautiful is Clive’s final act to Joshua wasn’t about legacy. In that moment Clive; Wasn’t Logos Wasn’t Mythos Wasn’t Ifrit Wasn’t Cid the Outlaw Wasn’t Wyvern Wasn’t Rosaria’s Shield Wasn’t a Rosaria He was Joshuas big brother. Hello from two weeks into the future. Funny enough, Soken just confirmed that this song, "My Star" is actually Jill's theme, and all other verisons are taken from this one. Now the feels are stronger T.T

This song suits the ending so well - bittersweet, tragic, tugs at your feels, and gets absolutely stuck in your head. Such a gorgeous song, the team behind the music really outdid themselves this time, and this is coming from someone who has heard their work in FFXIV and can safely say this is up there with 'Flow' in 'most likely to make me feel and cry eternally'

For me it was the star fading and Jill running away that broke me. And on the second topic, there have been others in between that made me tear a bit, but Ghost of Tsushima was also the last one to make me cry...until this.
I knew that Kenshi Yonezu would do the main theme for FF16, but deep down I was expecting Amanda Achen to sing a beautiful finale song since this game was from the FF14 team. Hearing this makes me so emotionally drained and brings me back to old FF that played bangers during the finale

I don't know if you know, but a news came out saying that the actor who played Clive lost his father during the recordings and according to the actor it was his father who introduced him to the game, so during the Interpretation he says you can feel a little bit of it.

Yes I read that news, initially I wanted to play it in my language, but after reading this news I decided to play it in English language, and I made the best choice. In some moments I can hear Ben's almost broken voice, I felt close to him in that painful moment. I highly recommend everyone to play it in English language, it's the full experience of the game.

The way Clive died laying in the beach at night with waves reaching his feet, the moon and stars just above - and knowing he promised to Jill that they would see it together one more time... Man, I think it was the most beautiful death I ever saw in a game. Simply poetic. Did I mention the music?
Yeeeeeeees that so unfair. The man just grief over his baby brother's death, and after everything he's been through he doesn't even get to see Jill or anyone. He died alone with just the most beautifull view on earth with no one to share it with. That's one of if not the most tragic death in gaming.
Look at this way. If Clive really did die on that beach he got an amazing view of the stars and Milky Way. He’d also be reunited with his father and brother.

They are. Definitely Clive is alive. Just remember the side quest where Jill says to him « That no matter how terrible the night… dawn would always come. That you… That you would always come for me » And the dawn breaks at the end of the song The star Metia faded away because the Jill’s wish was granted. This can be confirm with the post credit, the symbolism with two little guys, both seem like to Joshua and Clive

I think he is alive. If the post credit scene takes place in the distant future; then magic (bearers), eikons, etc,. We're removed from the world so why would Clive actually die from the curse? There is no curse. There shouldn't be a curse. Unless committing the world changing spell really took a toll on him. Idk someone needs to explain this to me.

Truly this generation’s Suteki Da Ne, and dare I say I had an even stronger emotional resonance to this ending than 10’s. A masterpiece of storytelling.
This was my first FF game, and I kinda just went in because I thought the combat looked cool. I did not expect it to affect me the way it did. Finishing the game at midnight hits different.
Fuckin’ bawling right now. And I haven’t done that since Final Fantasy X YEARS ago. Thank you so much square for not only restoring my faith in good story telling, but just everything about this. I would work 12-14 hour shifts, and still make time to play this masterpiece because I was that hooked.
People can complain about the game all they'd like, I haven't been this invested in a FF story since I played through 10 my first time and I loved this game.
People saying he died are just speculating, the ending is up for interpretation. The game gave so much for those wanting clive to die to think he die and those who want to think that clive survive to survive. If someone is saying ending explain or a video ignore it they just speculating and go create the ending that better suit because remember this game is about being free from fate so go create a final ending that matches your fantasy.
There aren't many songs that instantly bring me to tear up. Happy to say two of those songs feature Amanda Achen on vocals... Such a great piece. I'll never forget the moment I played through this game. I am still broken by the experience.

Man poor Jill and Torgal. its even more heartbreaking after doing their sidequests. Jill has to accept so much loss in her life. Torgal seems to be cursed to forever wait for his masters return, like the story of Hachikõ. But at least they have each other and a new family and new world to take care of. finishing FF16 for the first time when it released will always be a core memory for me, my dad was so confused as to why I was crying, this whole ending inflcits so many emotions in me that very few games are able to achieve and it makes Final Fantasy 16 that much more special to me
This game’s ending emotional broke me. It took me a whole day ro recover from this, the storytelling and voice acting was that phenomenal. Despite minor flaws, it’s the best game I’ve ever played
From Cidolfus' death to Dion's death and then the most heartbreaking and beautiful death of Joshua and seeing Clive's hand turn to stone and metia disappear when " a sky of scattered tears" all weighed on my heart so heavily. Only piece of media to get me to cry other than finishing full metal alchemist and im currently watching violet evergarden. This may not get goty but it will be my game of a lifetime.
this gets more emotionally devastating if you interpret the first few lines, the exchange of words, for starlight to be jill and starbright to be clive. one telling the other to say goodnight and the other begging to know where they've fallen from the sky and that they hear them calling. just a funny little headcanon for you.

while i mourn joshua and clive, i find myself feeling just as upset for dion. we didn't see much of him but knowing how he was basically left all alone after wreaking so much chaos on his own people against his will makes me feel worse for the poor guy.
Didn’t Joshua survive though since Clive restored him with the power of Phoenix/Ultima and then post credits we see that he wrote the book the two boys are reading about the adventures?
@@shadley95 Earlier in the game it is said that not even the power of the Phoenix can bring someone back to life. I didn’t get the sense that he brought Joshua back to life, just that he healed his bodily injuries as a final act of respect. As for the book, a lot of players agree with the theory that Clive survived and went on to write “Final Fantasy”, using his brother’s name as a means of honoring him. 1. Because he had that side quest in which Harpocratese gives him his quill and urges him to write about all that had happened. 2. The term “Final Fantasy” would most likely have been inspired by Clive’s final conversation with Ultima, in which he tells Ultima that he is the only one living in a “fantasy”, and Clive will be its “final”witness. Of course, it’s not not like any of this is confirmed for the time being. Maybe Clive really did manage to revive Joshua who went on to write the book himself. Personally, I felt like even Jote could be a strong possibility for writing the book in his honor. Joshua did mention that she kept a detailed journal of their adventures, so maybe she’d go on to write the story, just from her and Joshua’s point of view. Certainly a few possibilities up in the air.
Amazingly sad yet hopeful. We know the world Clive and the others are now in will be beset with myriad pain and suffering. But the final scene really adds a hopeful spin to it. A world without magic finally recovering. Thank you SE

If you read the letter after Jill's last side quest you'll know this song is literally dedicated to Clive, is it like Jill is singing to her star (Clive).
I'll be honest I had a feeling they were going to send off Clive knowing his whole purpose was to be Ultima's vessel and killing him off and destroying all the crystals would have him requiring to sacrifice everything and doing all the final side quests and just seeing him say goodbye to everyone after departing to origin teared me up so much but man the split second I saw him in that beach turning to stone those floodgates in my eyeballs just released all at once man I haven’t played a FF game that made me feel like this since FF15 but man what a bittersweet ending to a fantastic title. TLDR: despite predicting that Clive was gonna pass and knowing his fate was sealed I still ugly cried like a baby
what makes the scene with gav even sadder, in a sidequest before the finale he even makes a joke that he wants clive's sword but doesn't want to become the new cid if clive should die attacking origin and clive pretty obviously said the gav to be his successor

Theory stuff below There is a very real chance that Clive lives. Looking closely, the curse doesn’t seem to spread, he loses the ability to channel aether, so it shouldn’t spread any further. There’s also the fact that the book at the end is titled “Final Fantasy” a line that is only said by Clive, after Joshua dies, and the name being used could be a pen name to honour his brother’s legacy. This also feels like the right way to do it, as it gives more impact to the character side quests you do before the final mission! He lives and that makes me happy
Also, the Metia star dying is a crazy coincidence when you think about it. You don't see a star dying until billions of years later. If it died immediately after Clive did it would be an insane coincidence. My theory it's actually a moon made by the Fallen powered by magic that died as soon as the magic left.
@@MoXy69YTJoshua is dead, Phoenix can heal wounds but not the dead(Joshua said so himself). All the side quests lean to Clive surviving(Hapocrates and Jills Side Quest).

Torgal calls Clive home with howls rather than whimpered like when CID dies.
Not to mention the book, the pen from Tomes. I’m open to all interpretations until they come out with dlc or something. But even the Metia star plays a part here imo. Jill prays on the Star for his safe return. But Clive and friends are the reason for his safe return home every time. This time though, Clive survive what should have been un-livable. The metia star grants Jill’s wish of protecting Clive and disappears for two reasons. One is the symbolism of what I just described and then the more literal interpretation of Clive destroying their connection the magical world. I’m kinda trimming the fat off of what should be a more detailed explanation. But I dunno.

I’ve played them all since 4, and while i respect peoples opinions on preferring the more traditional FF gameplay…but saying this game isn’t a true FF as many have is just too far, and kind of disingenuous. Imo this is my favorite FF hands down, and Clive has become my favorite protagonist as well. Every FF is gonna resonate more with different people, that’s why they are always different worlds and stories. Imo true FF fans would give this game the respect it deserves✌️

I cannot begin to express how this ending made me feel.
The scene where Jill is looking at the horizon along with Torgal, and dawn suddenly breaks; I remembered her words in her final side quest:
"That no matter how terrible the night... dawn would always come."
It broke me.
After the 1st "Starliiiiight", I knew this scene was about to treat my emotions like a Goblin in training mode.

This is the only final fantasy game that brought me to tears. One of the last sidequests i did was with Gav and Jill. Man, when Gav couldn't hold it together, after seeing Jill and Torgal run off, i just lost it. I wish we could get more of that ending. I think Clive deserved most of all to have a happy ending with Jill
Not just Jill, but with little bro and Torgal as well.
It was Gav's reaction that got me too.
After Clive called him his brother just before. The really did wonders with the facial expression of gav in that moment. Contrasted with the beauty of the birth of a new life was just...overwhelming

For some reason seeing Torgal looking in the sky was what made me finally break. Ghosts of Tsushima was the last game that made me cry.
For me it was the star fading and Jill running away that broke me.
And on the second topic, there have been others in between that made me tear a bit, but Ghost of Tsushima was also the last one to make me cry...until this.
I knew that Kenshi Yonezu would do the main theme for FF16, but deep down I was expecting Amanda Achen to sing a beautiful finale song since this game was from the FF14 team. Hearing this makes me so emotionally drained and brings me back to old FF that played bangers during the finale

I don't know if you know, but a news came out saying that the actor who played Clive lost his father during the recordings and according to the actor it was his father who introduced him to the game, so during the Interpretation he says you can feel a little bit of it.

In some moments I can hear Ben's almost broken voice, I felt close to him in that painful moment. I highly recommend everyone to play it in English language, it's the full experience of the game.

Yeeeeeeees that so unfair. The man just grief over his baby brother's death, and after everything he's been through he doesn't even get to see Jill or anyone. He died alone with just the most beautifull view on earth with no one to share it with. That's one of if not the most tragic death in gaming.
Look at this way. If Clive really did die on that beach he got an amazing view of the stars and Milky Way. He’d also be reunited with his father and brother.

I think he is alive. If the post credit scene takes place in the distant future; then magic (bearers), eikons, etc,. We're removed from the world so why would Clive actually die from the curse? There is no curse. There shouldn't be a curse. Unless committing the world changing spell really took a toll on him. Idk someone needs to explain this to me.

Fuckin’ bawling right now. And I haven’t done that since Final Fantasy X YEARS ago. Thank you so much square for not only restoring my faith in good story telling, but just everything about this. I would work 12-14 hour shifts, and still make time to play this masterpiece because I was that hooked.

The game gave so much for those wanting clive to die to think he die and those who want to think that clive survive to survive. From Cidolfus' death to Dion's death and then the most heartbreaking and beautiful death of Joshua and seeing Clive's hand turn to stone and metia disappear when " a sky of scattered tears" all weighed on my heart so heavily. i instantly reconised Amandas voice from the very 1st words it was a plesent suprise as i didnt know she was working on 16
while i mourn joshua and clive, i find myself feeling just as upset for dion. we didn't see much of him but knowing how he was basically left all alone after wreaking so much chaos on his own people against his will makes me feel worse for the poor guy.
We didn't even know what happened with his boyfriend
Why would you feel as upset for Dion? He's at least alive which means he has a future and can experience happiness. The dead don't have that.

Didn’t Joshua survive though since Clive restored him with the power of Phoenix/Ultima and then post credits we see that he wrote the book the two boys are reading about the adventures?
@@shadley95 Earlier in the game it is said that not even the power of the Phoenix can bring someone back to life. I didn’t get the sense that he brought Joshua back to life, just that he healed his bodily injuries as a final act of respect. As for the book, a lot of players agree with the theory that Clive survived and went on to write “Final Fantasy”, using his brother’s name as a means of honoring him. 1. Because he had that side quest in which Harpocratese gives him his quill and urges him to write about all that had happened. 2. The term “Final Fantasy” would most likely have been inspired by Clive’s final conversation with Ultima, in which he tells Ultima that he is the only one living in a “fantasy”, and Clive will be its “final”witness.
Of course, it’s not not like any of this is confirmed for the time being. Maybe Clive really did manage to revive Joshua who went on to write the book himself. Personally, I felt like even Jote could be a strong possibility for writing the book in his honor. Joshua did mention that she kept a detailed journal of their adventures, so maybe she’d go on to write the story, just from her and Joshua’s point of view. Certainly a few possibilities up in the air.

If you read the letter after Jill's last side quest you'll know this song is literally dedicated to Clive, is it like Jill is singing to her star (Clive).
I'll be honest I had a feeling they were going to send off Clive knowing his whole purpose was to be Ultima's vessel and killing him off and destroying all the crystals would have him requiring to sacrifice everything and doing all the final side quests and just seeing him say goodbye to everyone after departing to origin teared me up so much but man the split second I saw him in that beach turning to stone those floodgates in my eyeballs just released all at once man I haven’t played a FF game that made me feel like this since FF15 but man what a bittersweet ending to a fantastic title.
TLDR: despite predicting that Clive was gonna pass and knowing his fate was sealed I still ugly cried like a baby

what makes the scene with gav even sadder, in a sidequest before the finale he even makes a joke that he wants clive's sword but doesn't want to become the new cid if clive should die attacking origin and clive pretty obviously said the gav to be his successor

Theory stuff below
There is a very real chance that Clive lives. Looking closely, the curse doesn’t seem to spread, he loses the ability to channel aether, so it shouldn’t spread any further. There’s also the fact that the book at the end is titled “Final Fantasy” a line that is only said by Clive, after Joshua dies, and the name being used could be a pen name to honour his brother’s legacy. This also feels like the right way to do it, as it gives more impact to the character side quests you do before the final mission! He lives and that makes me happy
I actually reached that conclusion about the book yesterday. Thinking logically, it's the only possible conclusion
Also, the Metia star dying is a crazy coincidence when you think about it. You don't see a star dying until billions of years later. If it died immediately after Clive did it would be an insane coincidence. My theory it's actually a moon made by the Fallen powered by magic that died as soon as the magic left.
This or clive is actually dead and joshua is lives after clive healed him in the tower. Both can be true, atleast thats whats my interpretation.
