Kendo Kata First Person view and Analysis (Ippon-me to Sanbon-me)
In this video series I talk about Riai, the reasons why we do what we do in the Kendo Kata. I also cover waza mechanics as as well as concepts like Seme and Sen.
We had a very brief window to film this Kata series but we managed to capture some first person view points for the Kata which are enlightening.

Excellent timing. Challenging for Ikkyu on Sunday so just this was quite useful.

Glad to hear that you found it useful. For ikkyu, just remember that the panel aren't going to be concerned about some of the deeper elements I talk here in terms of the Seme interaction. So long as you show clean rei gi and chakuso by looking neat and tidy and getting the etiquette right, get the footwork right and cut to target with yah and toh in the right places, then they should be more than happy with that. Think of this content as context, and things to keep in mind moving on through the dan ranks. Also keep in mind it's mostly you shinai and bogu performance in the shinsa that's going to pass you. So good, clean kirikaeshi and shinsa keiko with strong ki Ken tai. Like I said though, if it's useful to you then I'm grateful. All the best for Sunday! Let me know how it goes.

Thanks. Not my best performance but I passed. Kata went well until I had a brain cramp and forgot I was Shidachi during #3 and started to tsuki instead of receive…. Fortunately the judges allowed us to repeat that one kata and it went much better on the second go round. Something about testing just makes the simplest things hard.
