I`m sure Marc Bolan would be pleased that almost 40 years after his death people are still playing and enjoying his songs. I don`t know what Santana fans make of this, as a T.Rex fan since `71, I love hearing people covering his stuff.
but gavin rossdale ruined the vibe he wishes he was half as funky as the glamrock king himself if he had used someone more upbeat vocally like chester again or chris daughtry or got bruno mars id say good cover
I imagine he would be. I've heard T-Rex's version of *"Bang-a-Gong"* and I love it as well. But listening to this? OMFG! This is even better (I think)!
@@bassistmanic indeed, this is all about the guitar, the vocal is vanilla, even the backing vocals don`t do it justice. Still, it`s good to see Bolan`s music going forward.
@@bassistmanic and @aharon59 Agree with you both, and it's not the first or last time we'll be here. There's ever that tension between "We respect Santana the guitarist AND the bandleader, who has played -- or will yet play -- with so many talented others", versus, "but hey, this collaborator is the weak link!" Sometimes he lines it up just right and they all nail it. Many other times, we hear the missed opportunity, the headroom between the (decent enough) music and how high it could have gone "if." [New Paragraph] I notice lately that other greats of Mr. Santana's vintage are releasing collaborations. They bring a stature that allows them to record what they wish to, but also a sense that "bucket list" projects had better not be deferred. We benefit, because music gets made that deserved to be made (in the judgment of performers we admire.) But not every result gets to where it could have gone, if the collaborators had taken more time with each other and the music. The younger, newer performers are under all the well-known pressures of their industry; and for the elders, the very idea for the project may have arisen from a kind of deadline pressure.
Surely it's just a nice vibe that Marc's music was being played and enjoyed in a recording studio filled with some phenomenal musicians and for people to enjoy.
Some people don't like Carlos Santana's style and I guess most of these people's complaint is that he injects his style into the songs. This just in; that is what a GOOD cover is. It's a good cover if you inject YOUR style on it and don't play a boring note-for-note repeat of the previous track. If you want note-for-note go listen to T.Rex. This is Santana showing off what he does in his style. Get over it. If he sucks, how come he always gets all these great singers to perform with him?
I saw Santana in Manchester, awesome, as for this song I am a massive T.REX fan and although on first hearing I hated this version, it has started to grow on me. Not the best cover around of "Get it On" but at least it's keeping Marc's music alive and kicking.
I do love a bloody good guitar jam!! i dont think its about the quility of the cover its just Santana doing what he does best having fun with the music be could make 3 blind mice sound legendary!!!
stop the bushit of comparing & critizing.......just enjoy the variety & good style by Carlos n his variety of singers who are great artists in their own right!!! If you think you're better, why dont you make records (cover versions or own comp.) n lets see if you can become famous like Carlos or any of these other great artists he's colerborated with!!!
@vaibanez17 exactly. its annoying when somebody does a cover thats their own interpretation of the song, and people complain about how they were playing it wrong and shit. its not interesting at all when you copy exactly what somebody has already done.
@vaibanez17 Agreed, 100% :) People don't get what it is to be a great musician. Performers who make a cover the same as always... boring, 1 day people cheer, the next day they forget. This cover is outstanding, and yes, Carlos placed his style in, making it unique, better than the same ol' thing again and again. :)!!!
@JamesOhGoodie honestly, for me its just hard to tell its him. He has a signature voice, but it is kinda weird here. and this seems too bubbly for him, only compared to Bush tho. This song itself and Bush are not bubbly, but...Ima stop talking now. This is still a great ass cover
If you dwell in the past you will most always be dissatisfied, if you however embrace the intention of bringing the past alive once again then surely you won't be offended by the liberties taken to invoke one's own sentiment into the work.
I don't really care for this tune so I can't judge it really. The playing and singing is great and I probably like the vibe of this better than the original. Sweet!
@MrGuitar295 @MrGuitar295 yea i play guitar as well and i think u missed my point because what i meant was that yea, what makes each player so different and special is that "flavor" you put to the way you play so yea i totally agree with you. I think i should of mentioned when i say copying i meant like stealing licks from them and that type of stuff to be able to enhance your guitar vocabulary which in the end you make your own
@MrGuitar295 i agree with playing from the soul, but what you get when you play is a mixture of all the guitarists you listen to plus that something that you put in, without trying to copy other guitarists there is no u because nobody is born with all the guitar knowledge, there was always someone u copied and learned from
I love early Santana and I loved Gavin Rossdale when he was in Bush, but clearly Carlos Santana doesn't "get" Marc Bolan. It sounds like they just decided to take a familiar 1970s bar-band staple and turn it into a laid-back jam. It's always good to keep Marc Bolan's music in the public eye, but they missed a golden opportunity here by making the production so restrained.
Why is every single song on this piece of shyte mixed identically? It's like they set the faders on track one and then rolled tape on the entire session without moving them. A little variety could fractionally reduce the sonic torture.
if a regular cover band played this exact same song, exactly the same way, they would obviously be doing a poor job, the guitar player an over-playing ego maniac and no one would think it was very good - - but, since its Santana, its automatically assumed to be good. A similar example is that if Lisa Marie Presley sent her demo to a label with a different name, she would have never been given the chance to make a CD. Back to this Santana CD, I bought it, it sucks, cos he's too into himself
I don't go to Santana to hear a studio reproduction. I don't go to see bands like Santana and focus on the Singer(s). I don't go to concerts for bands with Primo Guitar Gods and then whine cuz the keyboards were too restrained. This IS Carlos Santana. You go to see & HEAR CARLOS FREAKIN' SANTANA play. Might as well go to a Karaoke bar if you want to hear a nice clean homogenized version.
this sucks - Santana is all about himself - he has absolutely NO idea what his band is playing - like a wannabe shredder who just wants to show off - he used to be good, now he's just a hack who doesn't listen to the music around him -
I`m sure Marc Bolan would be pleased that almost 40 years after his death people are still playing and enjoying his songs. I don`t know what Santana fans make of this, as a T.Rex fan since `71, I love hearing people covering his stuff.

Brasil Rio de Janeiro. Santana sempre é sensacional.
I love this! I was around for the original recording and now I have this on continuous loop inside my head. Dance!!!!
I swear, I don't know why this song or this album works so well for me, but it does!
The best guitar in the univers
Surely it's just a nice vibe that Marc's music was being played and enjoyed in a recording studio filled with some phenomenal musicians and for people to enjoy.
i guess Carlos had a blast the last time he did something like this - i'm glad that he's done it again.
CARLOS gets it!!!!!!!…Awesome!!!
I love it!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't know what to expect from this, but Gavin's voice sounds really good on this version...and of course, Carlos plays a mean guit-fiddle.
Like the Midas touch this is the Santana touch.
Yes! Yes! Yes!

Incredible. :)
Dear Santana. This man is for my husband like T. Rex for me :)
superbe
@DesecrationSmile52 my sentiments exactly, also plus points for being a chili pepper fan :P
cool cover

@dalekdude180 he's the male model who used to front the completely artifcial faux-grunge gimmick band "Bush." This is about his level.
@vaibanez17 Agreed, 100% :) People don't get what it is to be a great musician. Performers who make a cover the same as always... boring, 1 day people cheer, the next day they forget. Very well said sir!

@bashalfca Check out U TUBE, Marc Bolan a list of hits will appear,or for a tribute band, who are as good as t.rex try T.REXTASY.
Now all this needs is Gwen Stefani to jump in, LOL
@DesecrationSmile52 I second that last comment :)
@vaibanez17 you are so true.....get over it peoples......your talking about the god of the guitar! have some respect or go away!
@MrGuitar295 i agree with playing from the soul, but what you get when you play is a mixture of all the guitarists you listen to plus that something that you put in, without trying to copy other guitarists there is no u because nobody is born with all the guitar knowledge, there was always someone u copied and learned from
wtf? the 360p version sounds better than the 480p :D
all of santana's covers are awesome.hell i bet that he can take a justin bieber song and turn it into real music. maybe thats too much
I love early Santana and I loved Gavin Rossdale when he was in Bush, but clearly Carlos Santana doesn't "get" Marc Bolan. Okay, Gavin Rossdale singing T. Rex. What's wrong with this picture?
Jumpin' Jesus on a pogo stick. What the hell did T-Rex ever do to Santana?
@eddgiles Way too much lmao
So Santana has taken up butchery?
T,Rextasy as good as T.REX complete BOLLOCKS.
much too noisy for this cool number...
Santana seriously overplays too many fills on this song.
@JamesOhGoodie you,
Miss, and for such a technical reason, with Gavin's voice being washed out like that.
Ear rape?
This is ear love....
Why is every single song on this piece of shyte mixed identically? It's like they set the faders on track one and then rolled tape on the entire session without moving them. A little variety could fractionally reduce the sonic torture.
"She's Not There" was fantastic, but this totally misses the T.Rex groove of their version of "Bang A Gong".
What. The. Fuck.
Wow....this is bad... Power Stations version is better....
No. Not a good idea.
if a regular cover band played this exact same song, exactly the same way, they would obviously be doing a poor job, the guitar player an over-playing ego maniac and no one would think it was very good - - but, since its Santana, its automatically assumed to be good. Not really... I like Santana, but Gavin Rossdale drops the ball on this one. It's just... He can't sing this song very well... He just can't...
this sucks - Santana is all about himself - he has absolutely NO idea what his band is playing - like a wannabe shredder who just wants to show off - he used to be good, now he's just a hack who doesn't listen to the music around him -
Beyond awful.
Horrible! I love Marc Bolan's version much more. Stay away from playing Marc's songs, please!
Over pompeous multilayered cover. Sorry Santana, it sounds like one trick pony destroying a classic.
