    I picked one up two years ago on the second hand market, but I had to return it due to a failing shutter. Between the 7D II, 1D III, 1D IV, and 1Dx that I now own, it’s the camera I liked the most. Impeccable image quality at low ISOs and the colours are gorgeous.

      After many years of service, the shutter on my 1DsIII is failing. It was particularly noticeable at high shutter speeds. But I am having it repaired at a cost of only $260. Then it will be good to go for a long time. The camera produces great photos with great DR. I couldn't allow it to become a brick.

    it's by far my favourite Canon camera, it was bloody expensive back in the days but buying 5D2, 6D and 5D3 which it outlasted was a bit pricier. Perfect ergonomics, beautiful colors, simple menus, really nice OVF and simply a feeling that you have a proper camera to shoot with. 10/10, i still diss my 5Ds, 5DIV and EOS R purely because of the ergonomics of this beast.

      Thank you so much for watching and also for the compliment, really appreciated it. :-)
      Regarding your question, I personally prefer the 1ds mark iii because of the colours, the fact that it’s full frame and it has a slightly more “classic nostalgic digital” look with more characters to it. But that’s just my preference though… I know that there are people who would prefer the faster and more reliable 1d mark IV with better lowlight performance, more reliable focusing system and a little bit higher dynamic range. Furthermore, the 1d mark IV can record videos as well, some people will prefer that too. However, when I look into the older 1D series (and also the 1DS series), I tend to pay more attention to the characteristics of the results that produce and the kind of look I am getting from the images I can produce with them and to me, I look the look and characteristics of the images from the 1DS mark iii more, so I naturally would pick it over the 1d mark IV. So I guess at the end of the day it really depends on what you want from the camera ☺️ I hope that helps somewhat.. 😅☺️
      I thank you so much again for watching as well as for the compliment, really appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! ☺️

    Amazing Review! Beautiful photos! I was wondering what do you think of the jpeg colors SOOC between the 1DS mkiii vs 1DX mk I

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I personally would prefer the colour science straight out of the camera from the 1dx classic over the 1ds mark iii. The 1ds mark iii is great, no doubt. However, I love the skin tones on the 1dx more and I think the 1dx also produces more organic feel of natural sceneries than the 1ds mark iii. Even the 1dx has less resolution but I think the rendition in the details are also a bit more natural on the 1dx than it is on the 1ds mark iii. That said, this is only my opinion based on my experience of using them. I am sure there are many other photographers who experienced this different. I hope that helps though. I thank you very much for watching and also for the kind words, very much appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

      I am on the edge of also grabbing a 1DX just because of the colors as well. I'd love to know your thoughts on the Nikon D4S, I feel those colors as well have a unique picture. Oh and I also enjoy the 1DS photos too but as you said I agree the 1DX has a bit more natural tone. I only know because I've watched your amazing videos numerous times.

    Do the cross type off-centre autofocus point work ok with the 24-104 f4 ?

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do but just won't be as sensitive as lenses like the 24-70 f/2.8 since the cross type the cross type in this camera words best with lenses no darker than f/2.8. So it won't stop working, it will just be a tiny bit less sensitive with f/4.0 and it gets slightly less and less effective as you introduce darker and darker aperture lenses to the body. Hope that helps. Thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

      The D3X is also another great camera actually but they both produce really different "mood" of images I think and it really depends on what kind of mood one really prefers. I love the 1Ds mark III's skin tone renditions but I also love the D3X's more earthy feel that sometimes can make the 1Ds Mark III's images look a bit too digital when compare side by side. But yeah, it's always cool to see side by side. :-)

    These 1ds cameras seem really nice and you can find them for around 250€
    I do have a question, i am looking for a dslr my budget bring pretty low so i have some choices that fit into it Canon 550d,600 d and 1ds line of cameras i laso looked at some nikons like the d90, d3100 and so on i would love to hear your oponion on those. If i am being honest the 1Ds speeks to me the most looks wise.
    I have been doing film fotography for over half a year now.
    The before mentiond budget is 250-300 i would love to fit a lens into that budget but if i can't no matter
    Sorry if this is an annoying coment i wanted to ask this question on a video relevent to at least one of these cameras.

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't worry about asking questions, everyone has the right to ask questions, so don't feel like you're annoying anyone. :-) Regarding your questions, I think the 1ds line of cameras, if you can find them for around 250 euros then it's a bargain. That said, I think something like a 550d, 600d, 60d and 7d would still be a much better first investment into the digital system yet allowing a bit of room to invest in some really nice secondhand lenses as well since nice secondhand full frame lenses for the 1ds line can be a bit expensive. Furthermore, even the 7d, 60d, 600d, and 550d will be able to do more yet deliver a bit better files than some of the early 1ds cameras. But this is just my opinion/suggestion. If you really love the body, the operational side and the images from the 1ds line more, then go for the 1ds line. But if you'd like to experiment a bit more on a budget, the 550d, 600d, 60d and 7d will offer more possibilities yet with good quality results. Hope that helps. I thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

    I’m really debating if I should get the 5D MKII or this camera

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I personally would get the 5d mark ii because I personally prefer the colours of the 5d Mark ii. Furthermore, it is a much smaller and lighter camera so you'll more likely to take it out to shoot more with it. The 5d mark ii's sensor is also better than the 1ds mark iii's sensor (Canon even said then when they launched the 5d mark ii) is the dynamic range, colour depth and colour accuracy (though, being both high-end sensors from that time period, the difference isn't too noticeable).
      That said, if you do need the bigger camera, better autofocusing system and dual card slots, the 1ds mark iii would be the camera for you.
      I hope that helps, it's only my opinion though so please don't take it too seriously. I thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, I would still get it but that’s just because I love using older cameras. :-) Sure, the 1DX mark iii is already such a beast but at this point, the purpose of having a 1d mark IV is very different for me compare to a purpose of having a 1DX mark iii… The colour science, the operational side of things, the sensor size and just more things about the 1d mark iv that brings a different kind of experience and joy to use. :-)

      I personally prefer the canon eos 1dx’s images and overall colours more compare to the 1DX mark iii. There is just something about the colours that kept me shooting with it. Don’t get me wrong though, I am not saying that the 1Ds mark iii has bad colour science, it has really nice colour science but for my preference, the 1dx classic still has the best canon colour science. I even prefer the colour science from my 1dx classic over my R5 and R6… I have yet to try another canon camera that would take the 1dx’s place in terms of colours (again, that’s just based on my preference). Should I get it as my first full frame camra

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that would really depend on your priorities. I personally think for the price, the Canon eos 6d may be a better option to go for especially as your first full frame camera. The 6d will have a much more advance sensor with better sensor cleaning as well. It is much lighter and smaller so you can take it to more places thus coming back with more images as well. The 6d also has wifi so you can both control you camera and download images from the camera while on the move. The 6d may have less autofocusing points but it is able to focus much better in lowlight as well as more accurately. Then there are many other features that you'd naturally get with the newer tech such as video, more detail screen, etc. Then there is of course the colour science. Sure the 1Ds mark iii has a nice colour science but so as the 6d (albeit the 6d's files are a bit warmer). In my experience, the 6d's files are a tiny bit more robust as well, so if you'd like to manipulate the the images, the 6D's files would be able to handle it a bit better.
      At the end, however, it really comes down to your preference and priorities because these two are two very different cameras. If the 1Ds mark iii suits your needs better, then of course go for it since it is still a fantastic, reliable and tough camera that is still more the capable of delivering great results. Hope that helps somewhat. I thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

    How's the low light capabilities

    • @DavidCuhls
      @DavidCuhls  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In terms of image quality, I think as long as you know what you are doing, it will still be fine. The noise will look a bit digital colour colour noise when compare to the more matt "grain" like noise of the more modern cameras. For professional work, I would definitely not go above 1,600 or 2,000 iso and for personally work I would not go higher than 3,200. Also, I don't recommend recovering over 55 percent of shadow details when editing the images that was shot in lowlight with this camera (unless of course it was a long exposure image with low iso). Other than that, I would say it's pretty good. The colour rendition is still nice and natural, there is still quite a bit of colour depth and if you are shooting portraits in low light, the skin tones will also look really nice even compare to modern cameras. The colour accuracy is also still there with the added bonus of that unique canon colour science. :-)
      In terms of operational side, in low light condition you will need to be a bit patient. The AF system still does a good job just might not be as snappy as the more modern cameras.
      Hope that helps. Thank you very much for watching, really appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

I regularly send my lens to calibrate as well as for cleaning at my local camera store after big projects (since I personally know the staff and mangers there, they usually give these services for me for free...)... It's just that when working with f/1.2 (sometimes even 1.4) on the 1ds mark iii, it is already very hard to be still that the subject would really be in the focus field when you hit the shutter and also with the fact that the 1ds mark iii is also not always fast enough to drive the motor to the precise point when shooting at the aperture as well... But from f/1.8 onwards, everything seems to be just fine. :-) Thank you so much again for the suggestion and also for watching, really appreciated it. In my opinion and experience, I would say that if you are looking for a camera that is better in lowlight, autofocuses just a tiny bit more accurate as well as just a tiny bit better technically speaking then the D3x is a better choice to go for. However, (and this is subjective) I think that the 1Ds mark iii has better skin tones, colour reproduction and colour depth. It just looks better with its own character to it where as the D3x has a more digital look in my opinion. That said, both cameras are tough and you can't really go wrong with one or the other. :-) I know this was over generalising but I hope it made sense and I also hope that it helped a bit. Yes, there are still professional photographers that still use this camera. It is still a great camera that still deliver great results yet still very reliable. I still love the colour tones and colour reproduction of this camera and the robust files from this camera also stood the test of time and still deliver. I am deeply sorry if I said something that offended you, I really am deeply sorry. I thank you very much for watching and also for the feedback. I wish you a good time, stay safe and have fun shooting
