Here is 3 ways to look at this song: 1. Someone following others to a path of suicide, and then led another way. 2. Someone following others on a path to sin, and God leading them another way. 3. Someone following a path to being everyone else, until they see a path of creative freedom.
For me this song means a lot.I know it's probably about Christianity, but for me it means something else. The war Tyler talks about reminds me of the suicide attempt I experienced. And now it's all supposed to be normal but sometimes the 'emotionless marchers' (my suicidal thoughts that come back at times) will yell to me to follow them. But then the thought of my parents and my friends keep me alive so in the end I follow the right way.I stay alive. Thank you Tyler for writing these lyrics.I never thought music would mean so much to me.
+LoVeMusiC35 That's beautiful, but I won't lie, I imagine this as the sound track to a movie where Trump becomes president and people revolt after being brain washed in area 51 by nazi zombies. I uh, I like your interpretation better.
+LoVeMusiC35 That's the beauty of music, twenty one pilot's especially. All of their songs can have different meanings, different interpretations, and none of them are right or wrong, if it has meaning, it has meaning, that's the only thing that matters. My interpretation of this song is the line is a group, or society, like the school system or whatever, and everyone has to do their job, like marching to the sea, in a constant pattern, and the spaceship is something or someone that makes you see different, and all of a sudden, you want to follow them. The people in the line don't care, they will say bad things about your changes, and what you do, but they just can't see past it because its not the normal.
I honestly see this song as wanting to go back to childhood instead of being forced into this box of adulthood. The "you" represents his younger self. Then there's the spaceship, which seems like a childish fantasy. and he desires to be himself and not be controlled by societal pressures (matching to the sea, looking around, looking up to the sky [which is a metaphor for fantasizing sometimes or can represent childish wonder] and showing emotions, like crying). However, other adults criticize him for wanting to go back as a way of saying he needs to grow up. Ultimately, he falls back in line because he can never go back to his childhood.
+spøøky baby Music has no meaning, but the one you believe it to be, so don't say that a song meaning is obvious, because art is all perspective. Some can see it religiously, some can see it the opposite. Me personally try not to look for meaning in songs and it leaves the songs a lot better, even to the point that, even without knowing the meaning, it saddens me.
+spøøky baby when he says The line will go to the ocean pier And walk right off into the sea , he means that the line is walking into the sea, the sea is a metaphor for the Faith in God. Tyler is being cynical and saying that everybody jumps in the religion bandwagon, I mean everyone wants to follow God, and he is choosing a different path, like an alternative to the Faith in God. Because God isn't helping him, he's clearly struggling with his Faith, the song also talks about choices in life, you can either chose to do what society expects you to do, go to High school, then college, then get a job, and you stay in the line, or you can chose an alternative path, but you know that the emotioneless marchers will tell you, that they are right and you're wrong, that following the line towards death is the only way possible. That is how i see it.
no its obviously about depression vs joy suicide vs not it doesn't matter what the "real" meaning is, but what does matter is YOUR interpretation, and what matters is that you can use that interpretation to get better and to stay alive. You are completely entitled to your opinion and interpretation of the song, but you are absolutely not entitled to assess others interpretations as wrong, just because it isn't yours. Everyone has a different opinion and interpretation of it, and it helped them stay alive. You should allow them that interpretation, because, to them, that idea is completely correct, and they can relate to it. I personally believe the song was about suicide vs keeping on, and choosing to continue. You are fully allowed to believe it is about religion, but you should leave others interpretations and opinions alone, because it helped then get through life, and that's all that matters. Thank you. Stay alive I-/
everything about this song is perfect. the tune, how the lyrics perfectly describes the feeling of being suicidal, and of course suicide itself and just plain Tyler is perfect. i just love how this song exists.
right? I don't get this meaning too.. for me, it's just about accepting God or being in denial, in the line, walking towards death like everyone else.. when he sees the spaceship, that's Him calling to follow and then the march changes... I guess...
lol i missed one in nyc like a few blocks away from my house(of gold) bc i thought i had school but it was a day we had off and Halsey was there too km s
My first Twenty One Pilots song. I heard it around a year ago. And never planned to listen to them again, I mean they were different and strange. But after listening, I kept hearing "Follow me instead." So, a few weeks later, I followed the voice inside my head and listened to them again. So many songs later, I felt so.... happy. That's how it began. :)
"We use to play pretend give each other different names, we would build a rocketship then we'd fly it far away, use to dream out outer space now they're laughing at our face sayin: wake up you need to make money--then out of the corner of my eye I see a spaceship in the sky and hear a voice inside my head follow me instead, follow me instead follow me"
+aga_will_pone_u theres so many references I've heard. here's a few examples: Holding Onto You: '' I must've forgot, you can't trust me! '' Lane boy: '' Don't trust a perfect person '' Taxi Cab: '' I wanna fall inside your ghost '' Goner: '' The ghost of you, is close to me ''
+nevaeh dun we dont believe whats on tv: "I dont care whats in your hair, I just wanna know whats on your mind" anathema: "you will never know whats under my hair" (tyler shaves his head in the music video to Car Radio) I notice quite a lot of parallels in his songs when I listen to them
I like how in the comments of tøp songs everyone shares their opinions on what they think the song means because you can really see their point of view and what they are going through based on what they think Tyler is talking about. Based on this song and peoples opinions, some think it's about Josh(the alien) Some think its about voices in their head. Some about battling normality, and some about battling suicidal thoughts. What's beautiful about tøp songs is that most songs have multiple meanings, and whatever your going through is what you hear and its calming to know that others know how you feel... Stay alive friends |-/
+twenty one taco sauces well yeah but she/he has a point. just because Tyler didn't introduce blurryface to us earlier in his songs, doesn't mean he doesn't know this character way before us. he was probably finding the right moment to slowly introduce blurryface to the clique. who knows, he might have been struggling with blurryface ages before his songs even existed.
I found TØP ON ACCIDENT, MY FREN TOLD ME TO LOOK UP 21 SAVAGE AND CLICKED THE WRONG THING ON THE SURGES TED BAR. I THEN SAW THE NAME OF A SONG AND IT WASN'T STRESSED OUT, IT WAS LANE BOY. SO I LISTENED TO IT, AND THEN I LISTENED TO FAIRLY LOCAL TILL I FINALLY FINISHED THE BLURRY FACE ALBUM. I THEN GOT TO KNOW ABOUT THE VESEL ALBUM ON SPOTIFY. BUT ANYWAY, EVEN IF IT WAS AN ACCIDENT, OR EVEN IF I LEARNT ABOUT THEM THIS MORNING, I'M PTOUD TO SAY THAT I'M A TRUE TØP FAN, AND THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME!!! DØNT HATE, APPRECIATE. TØP FØR LIFE!!!
+Siri McLENDON Yeah LOL I read the comment first! Then I read the name and saw the pic. I FELL OUT OF MY CHAIR DIEING OF LAUGHTER. Well, that was an overstatement. I ALMOST fell out of my chair. I couldn't breath tho LOL. +top Same. I cried the first time i heard this album. (Like six months ago) Now I AM SO OBSESSED
this song to me means he is walking through life and hes just dry and needs that little bit of life and everyone is saying "go this way it will best at the end, everyone is going this way come on lets go" but the space ship is Jesus and He says "no follow me instead. you dont wanna go that way theres nothing there for you, come with me" and then tyler goes with him and he finally gets to the sea
everyone always talks about their favorite album but I love all 4 equally for different reasons self titled- my im sad play list very rarely listen to it but when I do there are many tears regional at best- im love this album for being a thing and I love kitchen sink too much vessel - I use this album as every day music I play it while revising walking blurryface- I can relate to the songs and it was the album I joined the clique with also same as vessel I cant choose a favorite and when they have many more albums I will never choose a favorite because they all mean something different to me
+RaincloudTheDragon idk it makes me cry while listening to it but after I feel happy so it's like gay all my emotions out in one sitting and Bill feel better later rather than holding them in
how i see it: he found the spaceship which is something different besides the line (the line is a metaphor for how the world is) he thought it could make him happy bc "he doesn't want to march here anymore" as in doesn't like the world. even when he found his spaceship which could maybe take him out of this awful world (line). it couldn't, it "put him back in line". showing that truly only way of escaping this line (world) is marching off into the sea with everyone else in line (dying after all you did in life was be the same as everyone)
+Shotty116 Then out of the corner of my eye I see a spaceship in the sky And hear a voice inside my head: Follow me instead Follow me instead Follow me. The money and drugs not going to say that. Anyway all of us has a way to undestand all his lyrics there is no point in be desciphrating every word if the song is wonderfull there isn't nothing to discuss. Until now i realized that Twenty One Pilots(My favorite band
No one looks up any more because you might get a raindrop in your eye When your marching band doesn't make it to state I NEED TO STOP IM GONNA MAKE MYSELF CRY
+Lucas Cortes I believe the Spaceship is a God figure. Twenty-one pilots are Christians but they said they never wanted to tell people what to believe, but sometimes their religious views bleed through into their lyrics.
If you look at this song from a person that actually hears different voices in their heads' point of view, you see a person trying to be normal and conform because it's what everyone tells you is the right thing to do. The space ship and voice inside his head is actually a voice telling him to not conform, "do what I say, follow me and only me". The line is normality and what he strives to be just so he can be seen as normal, but the voice in his head always wins even tho he tries his hardest fight it off. When he's gone and done all the bad things the voice in his head told him to do it just abandons him and puts him back in normality like something cheap that can just be used and thrown away. Knowing that the war inside his head will begin again some other time. I've related so much with this song and band that I realize I'm not the only one with these voices inside my head telling me to do all the wrong things. Thank you tøp for being you. |-/
That is actually really accurate because the march to the see, I think, reefers to a battle in the civil war. I think it was the last battle before we won.
this song means so much to me. My name actually mean a march to the sea. And I also want to be a marine biologist when i grow up. This song has gotten me through a lot of hard times. It is so underrated and no one really pays attention to it. Please pas on this song and all the other beautiful songs by these boys. Stay alive frens |-/
I love the emotion and bought behind this song, it's my favorite at the moment. I can't get over they way I relate to it. The meaning for me is following what you believe and not just following the crowd and what they say is true. Anyone else have a different meaning? I love how their songs can mean multiple things.
i think this song is about not conforming to society. like the spaceship is a new beginning. but when it puts him back in line, it's showing how we still to some degree will always have to conform. but this song means a lot to me because 1) it was the first twenty one pilots song i heard and 2) idk it speaks to me a lot 3) a guy who I miss a lot is closely associated with this song and like i feel like when i listen to it he's like there idk its weird but yeah that's my speech
The coolest thing about twenty one pilots is that they leave everything up to your own interpretation (a kitchen sink to you is not a kitchen sink to me), so there are so many ways of interpreting this song. I think the main point he wants you to consider is are you willing to leave the line? Are you willing to follow the spaceship? Take the leap of faith and abandon what you know? And if you fall back in line, are you willing to be rescued again? Being rescued is an ongoing process, but [the spaceship voice] can always rescue you if you're willing to be rescued. It won't be easy, but hope is out the window. So that's where we'll go.
"we're dying with every breath we take" "ill fall in line" "no one looks up anymore" "heaven forbids they see you cry" "then we fall asleep" the most meaningful lines.
guys seriously I love this song. I can't stop listening to it. Each time I swear is my last for the night but once the song ends I'm like no wait one more time...
Im not ashamed to say i found this fantasic band from stressed out But it dosnt matter if i found them yesterday or 10 years ago this band still saved my life more than a damn therepist do (idk how to spell that im not english) stop calling new fans fake fans iwe now known TØP for 4 months and i became a whole new person in those 4 months Iwe dealed with depression and anixity i feel so much better now still not fuly but better thanks to josh, tyler and the clique
The last part sums up the videos from blurryface era until now. Tyler tries to escape Dema but he’s always brought back. Here he is “in march to the sea”, so going towards sadness, depression and eventually death. But everyday he’s saved. But it doesn’t last long. He will be going through the same thing over and over again. And I just find amazing how these concepts are perfectly equal and contrary after all these years.
my theory: the line is the world and all of the people in it that haven't accepted Christ, and everyone is basically heading towards their death with nothing in this world to really live for. tyler believes that there is more to this life than just walking the line but since nobody else is deciding to leave/go a different route he doesn't know what to do, and just continues following everyone else. he hears the voice saying "follow me instead", which is basically the holy sprit/God replying to his thoughts that there was more to life than following the line. he then realizes that the line is just people who don't have purpose for life and don't have God, and he wants to go up to Heaven and not stay down where they are. But God puts him back down on earth (the line) so that he can spread the news and show people the other way. its a beautiful metaphor, anyway you look at it. we all have our life planned in a direction we want to go but when others don't think thats the right way we get distracted and our judgment is clouded and we fall into the line of everyone.
I first heard Blurryface , became obsessed, then Vessel and now their self titled cd. This cd is poetically beautiful, meaningful and original. Tyler is a true artist.
These lyrics are so perfect. They are pure poetry, and describe my entire life. I'm not religious but the voice that says "Follow me instead" can represent anything good in life, anything or anyone that makes you stay and continue living. I love this song so much :')
I couldn't find the Lyrics in the comments so: LYRICS There's miles of land in front of us, And we're dying with every step we take, We're dying with every breath we make, And all fall in line A stranger's back is all I see, He's only a few feet in front of me, And all look left and right sometimes, But all fall in line No one looks up anymore, 'Cause you might get a raindrop in your eye, And heaven forbid, they see you cry, As we fall in line And about this time of every year, The Line will go to the ocean pier, And walk right off into the sea, Then we fall asleep As we near the end of land, And our ocean graves are just beyond the sand, I ask myself the question, why I fall in line Then out of the corner of my eye, I see a spaceship in the sky, And hear a voice inside my head Follow me instead Follow me instead Follow me Then the wages of war will start Inside my head with my counterpart And the emotionless marchers will chant the phrase This line's the only way Then I start down the sand My eyes are focused on the end of land But again the voice inside my head Says, follow me instead Follow me instead Follow me Follow me instead Follow me instead Follow me instead Follow me instead Follow me instead Take me up Seal the door I don't want to march here anymore I realize that this line is dead So I'll follow you instead So then you put me back in my place So I might start another day And once again, I will be In a march to the sea
These guys are seriously just impressive artists when it comes down to it. Consistently phenomenal in every single one of their works its pure creativity and I love it.
Lyrically, this is my favorite song ever. I've heard it so many times, but every time I listen to it I can dig deeper into what Tyler's saying and find more meaning in his words. I've never really had a song affect me emotionally as much as this one does.
To me, this is about society's hetero/cisnormity and gender roles. The march to the sea is just following everyone else and "falling into line" because being anything else is dangerous. But the spaceship that whispers, "follow me" is everything that doesn't fit into society's little boxes. My spaceship is mi girlfriend. She is the reason I ever had the confidence to question my sexuality and gender. Idk. This song means a lot to me.
I thought this was about suicide. The march is the way to suicide. The person in front is a person who has, or, is going to commit suicide. I also believe, the end of land is the suicide and the voice is telling him no.
Even though the only two songs I like by them are this song and "we don't believe whats on tv" I still have a great respect for these two amazing musicians. they are clearly very talented and I hope that their growing fanbase grows even bigger. I know they possibly will play at the next superbowl and I hope they do! twenty one pilots is an amazing band doing great things!
When he says "The line will go to the ocean pier And walk right off into the sea", the line is walking into the sea, the sea is a metaphor for the Faith in God. (The symbolism of water appers here, just like in Addcit With A Pen). Tyler is being cynical and saying that everybody jumps in the relugion bandwagon, I mean everyone wants to follow God, and he is choosing a different path (The spaceship represents this non religious path) like an alternative to the Faith in God; Because God isn't helping him, he's clearly struggling with his Faith (he feels depressed and alone) the song also talks about choices in life, you can either chose to do what society expects you to do, go to High school, then college, then get a job, and you stay in the line, or you can chose an alternative path, but you know that the emotioneless marchers will tell you that they are right and you're wrong, that following the emotionless line towards death is the only way possible. (And as we near the end of land And our ocean graves are just beyond the sand) That is how i see it. Also, this is part is very significant, at least to me: "No one looks up anymore 'Cause you might get a raindrop in your eye And Heaven forbid they see you cry As we fall in line", when he says that no one looks up anymore, he's refering to the fact that people don't think about their future, they just follow the normal path that people expect them to, they feel presed by their parents, to follow that line, they don't try tha alternative path, because they are to affraid to disappoint the others If they do. And when he says and heaven forbi.hey see you cry, is that you're supposed to look tough, crying is showing your weaknesses. this is even more serious if you're a man, because men don't cry, according to our stupid society.
myTREEHOUSEisonFIRE I respect everyone's interpretation, but the alternate path offered is the path of faith while the line represents conforming to society. part of the reason you know it isn't about having no faith is because Tyler and Josh are Christians and also just listen to their other songs. You're dead on with heaven forbid they see you cry line, however, it is God's voice otherwise pulling him the line that marches to their deaths
myTREEHOUSEisonFIRE one thing is struggle with faith, another is reject it. They are christians, that's a fact, but you should listen to Be Concerned, it is about the struggling (i don't know if it writes like that, i`m brazilian) and doubting, but in the end all he wants is God to help him.
Pedro Uchôa Thank you for saying something that I already know. I know that he was/is struggling with Faith. He is not rejecting it. But I don't know if he's Christian, in a recent interview for Rolling Stone (www.rollingstone.com/music/news/rolling-stone-music-now-podcast-at-home-with-twenty-one-pilots-w439198 ), twenty øne piløts felt a little bit unconfortable talking about their current stance towards their Faith and Beliefs.
I haven’t listened to Tøp for almost a year. I remember I used to be really obsessed w them. But I found out about X last year in August. In a way they’re both rlly similar. But I love that I’m listening to Tøp again. They’re amazing ❤️ My favorite band. Stay Alive Frens |-/
This song is so powerful to me, and I will not bother to explain what it means for me because everyone is free to interpret it as they wish, it's just so beautiful, you can feel Tyler's emotion on this and you don't need to explain it, you just need to feel it. He inspires me so much, Josh inspires me as well, but as you may know, he wasn't part of the band on this album, so yeah, what was I saying?, I can relate to Tyler so much, he's a gift to the world, at least for me. Stay alive, kids.
This was my first tøp song. Back when Vessel ruled the day. When the logo still had blue in it and tøp was our little secret. I know this is a good thing, that tyler and josh are happy, that Blurryface is taking off. But I miss those days, but I'd like to welcome all of the new comers. You're all gonna go crazy for this band and probably already have.
Here's a rant. I'm sick of coming to comments on this this album and all the rest tbh and just seeing comments about fake fans, can we just agree to disagree? Please? I and many many others come on here either too see others getting support or get support yourself, we are a family, please stop this frens |-/ stay alive xo
This song is so amazing and so beautiful. It think it means that only following the paths of others can lead to your future crashing down. Sometimes, following the voice in your head that you think is right, even if it leads you away from the rest of the people, is the best choice for your life to be fufilled. I think the spaceship is the sun trying to make him follow it away from the rain and the line and the struggle. So, when it matters most don't just fall in line or you will drown in responsibilities. Even if you will end up back there someday.
this song is beautiful. it gives me chills everytime... this song has a great meaning and it's a special one to me. when I think of TØP I think of this song because this I believe is one of the songs that truly represents who they are and what they stand for. this song makes you think. it doesn't hand the meaning straight to you. it makes you think about it for yourself. and that's amazing to me.
I swear each album is being sang by a completely different Tyler.

"We use to play pretend give each other different names, we would build a rocketship then we'd fly it far away, use to dream out outer space now they're laughing at our face sayin: wake up you need to make money--then out of the corner of my eye I see a spaceship in the sky and hear a voice inside my head follow me instead, follow me instead follow me"
Bruh I though of that shit like two weeks and wondered if any body else got that 😂
Whoaa..it's like a loop between the two albums
+aga_will_pone_u theres so many references I've heard.
here's a few examples:
Holding Onto You: '' I must've forgot, you can't trust me! ''
Lane boy: '' Don't trust a perfect person ''
Taxi Cab: '' I wanna fall inside your ghost ''
Goner: '' The ghost of you, is close to me ''

we dont believe whats on tv: "I dont care whats in your hair, I just wanna know whats on your mind"
anathema: "you will never know whats under my hair"
(tyler shaves his head in the music video to Car Radio)
I notice quite a lot of parallels in his songs when I listen to them
I like how in the comments of tøp songs everyone shares their opinions on what they think the song means because you can really see their point of view and what they are going through based on what they think Tyler is talking about.

Why does this song almost bring me to tears? I'm a robot, I'm not supposed to have feelings.
Greed Greedson I already cried XD it's beautiful ;¤;
-I shall-
Emma Wit well I’m a pancake and I’m crying so
Emma Wit with tylers voice even inanimate objects feel.
I'm a cyborg, so only the human eye can cry
I can envision this song so perfectly. It's my favorite by TØP.
Same!!! I never saw any top 10 songs by TøP with this one in it :( , I cry every time I listen to...
It's actually demaaaaaa
60 people turned their screen upside down to like this song again.
now 180 people!
Good one 😂
Oh my gosh when he says, "Waging war with my counterpart" He's talking about Blurryface! OMG
we weren't even introduced to blurryface in the album...
Yes but just because we didn't know about blurryface doesn't mean Tyler didn't know about it.
you don't know that. the lyric might not even mean that...
+wheresthebloodywifi oh shit true
Quick question - why the caps lock?
don’t hate, lowercase
Lmao
I bet you don't listen to them anymore lol
STOP SCREAMING, IT'S BAD FOR YOUR THROAT
I'm so sorry you feel this hopeless. I'd pull you from the line if I could
***** Yeah when I said you I meant you as anyone who was this hopeless. So far I am blessed to have never felt this way
This album is so underrated.
I'm actually crying...their songs are so beautiful :3
your profile though. I'm dead.
(Like six months ago)
Now
I
AM
SO
OBSESSED
+cøøl jøsh and yours though lol
Same literally I'm crying too
And here I am with a substandard tøp meme ;-;
this song to me means he is walking through life and hes just dry and needs that little bit of life and everyone is saying "go this way it will best at the end, everyone is going this way come on lets go" but the space ship is Jesus and He says "no follow me instead. you dont wanna go that way theres nothing there for you, come with me" and then tyler goes with him and he finally gets to the sea
Thats a wonderful interpretation =)
everyone always talks about their favorite album but I love all 4 equally for different reasons
self titled- my im sad play list very rarely listen to it but when I do there are many tears
regional at best- im love this album for being a thing and I love kitchen sink too much
vessel - I use this album as every day music I play it while revising walking
blurryface- I can relate to the songs and it was the album I joined the clique with also same as vessel
I cant choose a favorite and when they have many more albums I will never choose a favorite because they all mean something different to me
+Cheese puff 101 why would you want to make yourself even more sad?
+RaincloudTheDragon idk it makes me cry while listening to it but after I feel happy so it's like gay all my emotions out in one sitting and Bill feel better later rather than holding them in
+Cheese puff 101 get* ... Well also gay but you know
+RaincloudTheDragon you cry too much and youll run out of tears. then your happy
No Phun intended was a Tyler album, not a twenty one pilots album.
how i see it:
he found the spaceship which is something different besides the line (the line is a metaphor for how the world is) he thought it could make him happy bc "he doesn't want to march here anymore" as in doesn't like the world. even when he found his spaceship which could maybe take him out of this awful world (line). it couldn't, it "put him back in line". showing that truly only way of escaping this line (world) is marching off into the sea with everyone else in line (dying after all you did in life was be the same as everyone)
What do you think the spaceship might be? Drugs, money, something like that?
+Shotty116 Is God.
+Gabriel Zeledon That's what I thought, but Tyler is a Christian, so it wouldn't make a lot of sense that he'd say God isn't the way.
+Shotty116 Then out of the corner of my eye
I see a spaceship in the sky
And hear a voice inside my head:
Follow me instead
Follow me instead
Follow me.
The money and drugs not going to say that.
Anyway all of us has a way to undestand all his lyrics there is no point in be desciphrating every word if the song is wonderfull there isn't nothing to discuss.
Until now i realized that Twenty One Pilots(My favorite band
+Gabriel Zeledon Yeah I think you're right. I love that a lot of their songs are Christian though :)
So I ask myself the question why-DO YOU KEEP TAKING SO LONG SAN FRANCISCOOOOOO
yass!
omg
omg only true frens would get this 😂😂 this made my day
BOOOOO HISSSSS 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I CANT!!!
Rebecca Baxter nice profile pic
No one looks up any more because you might get a raindrop in your eye
When your marching band doesn't make it to state
I NEED TO STOP IM GONNA MAKE MYSELF CRY
"I don't want to march here anymore"
FUck
Did you guys feel that because I definitely did considering the tears I'm currently about to drown in
Yeah, that's the part that really hits me too. I'm tired of marching.
exactly.. maybe we're marching the wrong march.. if we follow Him, things might change.... I guess this is what he means with this song...
+Lucas Cortes I believe the Spaceship is a God figure. Twenty-one pilots are Christians but they said they never wanted to tell people what to believe, but sometimes their religious views bleed through into their lyrics.
Right, me too.. there is a lot of christian references in the lyrics.. but it's so subtle that it fits anyone's belives
don't cry, craft
i cant decide if tøp's best album is self titled or regional at best help
my exact problem
regional at titled or self at best
Same actually
Twenty one pilots albums are all perfect they all can not be beaten but can not beat each other at the same time. as nothing can beat perfect.
Red_Devil_2002 lmao
its actually about religion
+seagoth I didn't ask.
+seagoth everyone can have their own idea of what a song means to them and that's the beauty of music
+madison mcdonald thank you 😊
That is actually really accurate because the march to the see, I think, reefers to a battle in the civil war. I think it was the last battle before we won.
2:17 _emoooo....emoooo....emooo....emoooo...._
Is that what it actually says I can't make it out
+My Little Meme nemo nemo
+Inked AntiVirus Pretty sure the background voices are saying people but it is faint and I don't plan on breaking my eardrums to be sure.
+Alex Fahey I'll take ur word for it 😂
Alex Fahey Nah, I know it isn't emo. Just joking XD
I miss this twenty one pilots.
The voices in the background sound like they're saying "emo emo emo"
but i love it
Michelle Province yes nice
Michelle Province i can't unheart now...... Thank you
Michelle P. *but that's what the voices in my head say*
i cant unhear “beebo”
this song means so much to me. My name actually mean a march to the sea. And I also want to be a marine biologist when i grow up. This song has gotten me through a lot of hard times. It is so underrated and no one really pays attention to it. Please pas on this song and all the other beautiful songs by these boys. Stay alive frens |-/
this reminds me why i like depressing music (twenty one pilots, panic! at the disco, fall out boy, my chemical romance) yes, i know im an emo
Jasmine Winter whats depressing about fall out boy
welcome to the black parade makes me cry
Jasmine Winter thats mcr not fob
oops, sorry was talking to my friend about my chemical romance at the same time
fall out boy has some upsetting videos e.g. just one yesterday
So many spiritual parallels. :D
I love the emotion and bought behind this song, it's my favorite at the moment. I can't get over they way I relate to it. The meaning for me is following what you believe and not just following the crowd and what they say is true. Anyone else have a different meaning? I love how their songs can mean multiple things.
Here , i always feel the scenery whenever i listen to this. like a miles of sea and there is no end
i think this song is about not conforming to society. like the spaceship is a new beginning. but when it puts him back in line, it's showing how we still to some degree will always have to conform. but this song means a lot to me because 1) it was the first twenty one pilots song i heard and 2) idk it speaks to me a lot 3) a guy who I miss a lot is closely associated with this song and like i feel like when i listen to it he's like there idk its weird but yeah that's my speech
literally the best album
ROAD TO 30 MILLION VIEWS
I am happy for Tyler making newer happier music and sounding like he's doing better, but damn nothing beats the good old stuff
"we're dying with every breath we take"
"ill fall in line"
"no one looks up anymore"
"heaven forbids they see you cry"
"then we fall asleep" the most meaningful lines.
guys seriously I love this song. I can't stop listening to it. Each time I swear is my last for the night but once the song ends I'm like no wait one more time...
when tyler goes, "you might get a raindrop in your eye"
i'vE GOT SO MANY RAINDROPS IN MY EYES RN
Im not ashamed to say i found this fantasic band from stressed out
But it dosnt matter if i found them yesterday or 10 years ago this band still saved my life more than a damn therepist do (idk how to spell that im not english) stop calling new fans fake fans iwe now known TØP for 4 months and i became a whole new person in those 4 months
Iwe dealed with depression and anixity i feel so much better now still not fuly but better thanks to josh, tyler and the clique
But God puts him back down on earth (the line) so that he can spread the news and show people the other way.
its a beautiful metaphor, anyway you look at it. we all have our life planned in a direction we want to go but when others don't think thats the right way we get distracted and our judgment is clouded and we fall into the line of everyone.
this song speaks to me on so many levels that my heart physically hurts when I listen to it
I first heard Blurryface , became obsessed, then Vessel and now their self titled cd. This cd is poetically beautiful, meaningful and original. Tyler is a true artist.
I don't know but Twenty One Pilots self-titled album is my most favorite. Every single track in the album is so raw and heart-wrenching.
I couldn't agree more - it's so underrated as well which is such a shame as its some of their most emotional stuff
+Hannah McNeill how I wish I was one of those lucky ones who were able to have the physical copy of this album. And Regional at Best, too.
"They say...
George Washington's yielding his power and stepping away."
THANK YOU
I KNEW IT SOUNDED LIKE THAT IN THE BEGINNING
I've repeated both of these songs an unhealthy amount of times, how did i not notice?
IS THAT TRUE
I WASN'T AWARE THAT WAS SOMETHING A PERSON COULD DO
+vulixirus same
These lyrics are so perfect. They are pure poetry, and describe my entire life. I'm not religious but the voice that says "Follow me instead" can represent anything good in life, anything or anyone that makes you stay and continue living. I love this song so much :')
I couldn't find the Lyrics in the comments so: LYRICS
There's miles of land in front of us,
And we're dying with every step we take,
We're dying with every breath we make,
And all fall in line
A stranger's back is all I see,
He's only a few feet in front of me,
And all look left and right sometimes,
But all fall in line
No one looks up anymore,
'Cause you might get a raindrop in your eye,
And heaven forbid, they see you cry,
As we fall in line
And about this time of every year,
The Line will go to the ocean pier,
And walk right off into the sea,
Then we fall asleep
As we near the end of land,
And our ocean graves are just beyond the sand,
I ask myself the question, why
I fall in line
Then out of the corner of my eye,
I see a spaceship in the sky,
And hear a voice inside my head
Follow me instead
Follow me instead
Follow me
Then the wages of war will start
Inside my head with my counterpart
And the emotionless marchers will chant the phrase
This line's the only way
Then I start down the sand
My eyes are focused on the end of land
But again the voice inside my head
Says, follow me instead
Follow me instead
Follow me
Follow me instead
Follow me instead
Follow me instead
Follow me instead
Follow me instead
Take me up
Seal the door
I don't want to march here anymore
I realize that this line is dead
So I'll follow you instead
So then you put me back in my place
So I might start another day
And once again, I will be
In a march to the sea
Thank you so much! I just found this song for the first time a few days ago, and I came to the comments just to find the lyrics
i miss these times
I love listening to this on the bus and when
"A stranger's back is all I see
He's only a few feet in front of me"
comes I'm just like #relatable
These songs are deep. They travel through your blood, straight into your heart. It's beautiful.
"heaven forbid they see you cry" yeah its little too late for that
These guys are seriously just impressive artists when it comes down to it. Consistently phenomenal in every single one of their works its pure creativity and I love it.
Favorite band
Lyrically, this is my favorite song ever. I've heard it so many times, but every time I listen to it I can dig deeper into what Tyler's saying and find more meaning in his words. I've never really had a song affect me emotionally as much as this one does.
This is a metaphor for life. And a depressing one at that.
I also believe, the end of land is the suicide and the voice is telling him no.
am i hallucinating or are there really eerie oh's in the background ?
I hear them too!
christopher weiner okay good good i thought i was going crazy lmao
+Natassja Casillas at around 3:39 they come to the surface. yes they are there.
+march 22nd, 2013 how fitting amirite
+Natassja Casillas I aways thought they were saying "people..." over and over again.
Is it just me or does March to the Sea and Glowing Eyes sound really similar?
kinda, only slower
It's you cuz they don't sound alike a tall
At all*
I was thinking that, i mean they don't sound completely the same but a bit similar
+wokypoky nice profile pic
I love this song, there is such a mix of hope and sadnesses and hopelessness all at the same time and I think it's beautiful
When he says "The line will go to the ocean pier
And walk right off into the sea", the line is walking into the sea, the sea is a metaphor for the Faith in God. (And as we near the end of land
And our ocean graves are just beyond the sand) That is how i see it. Also, this is part is very significant, at least to me: "No one looks up anymore
'Cause you might get a raindrop in your eye
And Heaven forbid they see you cry
As we fall in line", when he says that no one looks up anymore, he's refering to the fact that people don't think about their future, they just follow the normal path that people expect them to, they feel presed by their parents, to follow that line, they don't try tha alternative path, because they are to affraid to disappoint the others If they do. And when he says and heaven forbi.hey see you cry, is that you're supposed to look tough, crying is showing your weaknesses. this is even more serious if you're a man, because men don't cry, according to our stupid society.
My interpretation is sooo different, but is so cool that there is a different interpretation for every person, i love it
myTREEHOUSEisonFIRE I respect everyone's interpretation, but the alternate path offered is the path of faith while the line represents conforming to society. part of the reason you know it isn't about having no faith is because Tyler and Josh are Christians and also just listen to their other songs. You're dead on with heaven forbid they see you cry line, however, it is God's voice otherwise pulling him the line that marches to their deaths
Zach Obrecht Tyler struggled with his Faith a lot, so I don't agree.
myTREEHOUSEisonFIRE one thing is struggle with faith, another is reject it.
Not gunna cry
Not gunna cry
Not gunna cry
Fuck.
I know I really late but I just want to say man this song is so powerful
I feel like this song is a modern day parable :)
THE EMOTION IN THIS really hits me
I feel like he is marching with what society thinks is right and then the spaceship is like a message from God saying "follow me instead"

Also 0:00 - 5:32
Who hears the whistles right after he finishes the last line? They kinda sound like swings; I can't be the only one
I heard it too (:
Rigi Mendøza yup that's part of the song
Rigi Mendøza I think it's supposed to sound like a noose
liveløve twentyønepiløts that makes sense.. one of the reasons I love them
Don't worry fren you're never the only one
This song is so powerful to me, and I will not bother to explain what it means for me because everyone is free to interpret it as they wish, it's just so beautiful, you can feel Tyler's emotion on this and you don't need to explain it, you just need to feel it. He inspires me so much, Josh inspires me as well, but as you may know, he wasn't part of the band on this album, so yeah, what was I saying?, I can relate to Tyler so much, he's a gift to the world, at least for me. Stay alive, kids.
"He who marches out of step hears another drum".
i can't express my love for this album.
This is my favourite TØP Song
This was my first tøp song. Back when Vessel ruled the day. When the logo still had blue in it and tøp was our little secret. I know this is a good thing, that tyler and josh are happy, that Blurryface is taking off. But I miss those days, but I'd like to welcome all of the new comers. You're all gonna go crazy for this band and probably already have.
awesome
just one negative point
it ends
WHY IS THIS SONG SO UNDERRATED ITS SO GOOD
Here's a rant. I'm sick of coming to comments on this this album and all the rest tbh and just seeing comments about fake fans, can we just agree to disagree? Please? I and many many others come on here either too see others getting support or get support yourself, we are a family, please stop this frens |-/ stay alive xo
I really think this is one the most under liked songs of them all... truly one of my top TØP favs
This song reminds me of newborn sea turtles and how they have to go to the sea by themselves
This album is just so much more emotional than the others, these lyrics are cathartic
First two lines and I'm crying
This song is so amazing and so beautiful. It think it means that only following the paths of others can lead to your future crashing down. Sometimes, following the voice in your head that you think is right, even if it leads you away from the rest of the people, is the best choice for your life to be fufilled. I think the spaceship is the sun trying to make him follow it away from the rain and the line and the struggle. So, when it matters most don't just fall in line or you will drown in responsibilities. Even if you will end up back there someday.
You could have make an ice skating program to this.
General Devoted tyler joseph on ice with his famous trainer, josh dun
this song is beautiful. it gives me chills everytime... this song has a great meaning and it's a special one to me. when I think of TØP I think of this song because this I believe is one of the songs that truly represents who they are and what they stand for. this song makes you think. it doesn't hand the meaning straight to you. it makes you think about it for yourself. and that's amazing to me.
an ad with the ppap guy came up before this video I feel threatened

I love how this song can relate to many people in different ways and can mean something different to each person
