What a great movie and fantastic story maxamis went from the commander of the Roman's whole entire army to almost becoming the next emperor to a slave on the run only to unite the other slaves and win the crowd and re take charge.....epic
Love this movie! Still hits me in the feels after all these years. One editing mistake that I have always noticed. When Juba throws a sword, he called him Maximus. They've only known him "The Spaniard" all the time until this reveal. In the battle between Maximus vs a bunch of gladiators, they were calling him Spaniard. The deleted scene, they were calling him Maximus. The film editors and writers might have changed this midway through filming for this scene of the reveal to work.
Gladiator delivers the right kind of atmosphere every time thereby bringing back the glory days of the Roman Empire which is why we watch it over & over again.. it's a guy thing, y'know?!😎
You can hear Comitus drop bricks when he sees who it is once the helmet came off. KACHUNK KACHUNK KACHUNK! You can build a housing development with the bricks he dropped! Lol!!

Every beautiful thing needs a commodus to die and every great movie a villain like commodus. We as a society have lost our insight. The struggles are just being written, when the time comes a new Phoenix will rise. Until then we all have to wait.
Only one small gripe about this scene--the horse Maximus is riding has stirrups, which weren't introduced in Europe until after the fall of the Western Empire and only ever saw use with "Roman" forces in the Byzantine Empire. In addition, the horse he's using is one he stole from one of the chariots, meaning that even if stirrups had existed in Rome of that day there would have been no need to have them on that horse since it would have been set up for pulling a chariot, not having someone ride on it. (Quick history lesson here--The reason chariots were popular with ancient armies was that true cavalry wasn't possible without the stirrup to allow a rider to stay securely on the back of their horse during battle Without them, it was far to easy to fall off, and a dismounted cavalryman is one of the easiest things to kill in melee combat. The chariot allowed horses to be used during battle, and provided speed and some armor to the riders. However, once the stirrup was invented, the chariot's disadvantages outweighed its advantages--men on horseback were more agile and harder to unhorse than it was to knock a chariot over (as Maximus and his men demonstrate in this scene.) The Romans did have mounted infantry, but they were just that--infantry that rode horses to the battlefield, then dismounted and fought on foot.
I believe the use of a bridle (and a bit) also improved the use of the horse for cavalry. In addition, the breeding of horses produced steeds which were larger & had stronger backs; all these improvements eventually saw the chariot become obsolete.
I believe it’s a movie which means there are always inconsistencies in it - for example the thumb up meant death not to live and the thumb wrapped under to make a fist was to live but again it’s a movie so inconsistencies always happen
