Lorsque l’Empereur Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) est tué par son propre fils Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) afin de s’emparer du trône, le Général romain Maximus Meridius (Russell Crowe) est réduit à l’esclavage et sa famille est assassinée. Maximus devient un gladiateur dans l’espoir de retrouver l’empereur et venger sa famille.

I have to say it. Gladiator is still one of the best films I've ever seen.

I mean it's a good movie but can't be further from history and not gonna lie but Commodus' real story would have been cool too

J'ai rarement connu un tel sentiment de statisfaction devant une fin de film.
Le fait que sa mort est montrée comme qqch qu'il attendait et qui le soulage et surtout...
Rien ne peut surpasser la satisfaction de l'enchaînement "Il était un soldat de Rome, honorez_le", le porté solennel de Maximus et le corps de l'autre merde qui est délaissé par tlm.
Un plaisir cette scène à chaque fois. Oui c'est mélancolique, oui y a de l'émotion mais en soit, c'est un happy end

That moment where she says 'Go to them' and Maximus returns her gaze for one last time before turning his head in death, is so profoundly moving. I've watched this film dozens of times and that one scene never ceases to catch my breath.
at that moment it should have turned out that Tanit Vaalet, Apollo, Zeus, Ares, Mars and all the others had come, to see this, Aesculapius (Asclepius) made a research examination and found out that the wound had ceased to be fatal and could be cured even then there they all together began to drink vodka, smoke hemp and staged a festive orgy.

I watched this movie with my father when I was a child and it became a thing between us to watch this and spend some quality time together. He passed away 2 years ago and every time I watch this movie or this scene, it reminds me of him, painfully, but some of the good memories of him.
May his gentle soul rest in peace, amen.

regarde j ai les larmes aux Yeux et ce n'est pas tout, j ai aussi la gorge qui brûle aussi , une scène fabuleuse avec la mort atroce du méchant {l'assassin de son pere} et une vie sereine au jeune garçon auprès de sa mère reine et des funérailles honorées pour le soldat de Rome {Gladiateur}

the french is the best.. second is japanese, third is spanish
even oryginal english is not so emotional as the french...

It is french: just learn oh lala, voila, coucou and chou chou and you will be more than fine. Ahahaha. I joke, French is truly a beautiful language.

that last scene is very emotional, the return home. The body dies but not the spirit. An unforgettable film. Great performances in many films, but in my view, in Gladiator, Russell Crowe was brilliant.

2:17 I love how the cheering stops as Maximus draws the dagger closer to Commodus, and then absolute silence as he kills him.
Arguably the best movie ever made. Even in 2022.
I love how the filmmakers managed to sell the underlying truth in this scene. Wounded Maximus had been a soldier his whole life and delusional Commodus never really had a chance. Its a sadness that makes your final verdict of the villian linger between hate, sadness and even pity.
Yes, and it's a credit to Phoenixs performance to convey those very same emotions through Commodus evil/tragic character
Fun fact: real emperor Commodus actually took part in gladiators' fights
But of course he didn't die fighting in the Arena, but still he was killed.

How the legends and stories of Rome and its time echo down the centuries to provide us with great material for wonderful human drama and entertainment. Even though this story is fictional it feels very real and believable. That is why it is such a great movie.

I think what strucked me the most in this scene is the cold sounds commodus make when he get stabbed in the neck.
There was no voice during the whole fight and it’s the first one we hear since. At the exact same time the music stop and then you see commodus facial expression, saying that it’s over, looking at maximus like a baby watching his father. Then maximum get him to the ground with a hand behind his neck like a father would carry his newborn child.
The scenes in this movie are incredibly well thought

Maximus was already mortally wounded and Commodus STILL couldn't beat him. The kid was a weakling. Maximus was a hardened soldier whereas Commodus spent his life in the lap of luxury.
Still the best film of the 21st Century.
This character (Maximus) enjoys incredible acceptance, awakens great admiration for his strength, both physical and spiritual. We will always remember it 💪💪💪
