I have nothing but fond memories of Montrose, it's record stores, shops, and restaurants. It is a place I had hoped would escape "modernization" and remain a place outside of time.
To me, it is a welcome thing. I returned to Montrose after 23-1/2 years away in 2012 and found it to be dirty; rundown, and dangerous. The land is far too valuable to be used in that way. Also, I think the expansion of the Catholic Church into the area will be a positive thing, and will likely "flush out" the vestiges of the former culture.
I lived on Montrose in the early 90’s.... when it was still hippies and Gypsies . I went there recently and it was like I was in a different universe. I recognized nothing. It’s all strip malls. I hated it
Who wants factory made, all the same, all parking lot living? It’s like choosing dry, packaged cookies instead of Grandma’s warm homemade secret recipe gems. Individuality is the American way, not commie cut-outs!
I bought all my groceries at Disco Kroger! Lots of great memories in the 'Trose.
