Squatter’s shouldn’t have any rights to anything they don’t own or pay for. Illegally entering someone else’s home is called burglary! Who’s the genius lawmaker that came up with squatters rights??? They destroy property & leave trash & hazardous waste behind & the owners wind up footing the bill for it. Squatters should be allowed to be dealt with by any means necessary, that’s how the laws should read!!!
It's an older law around the 1850's when there where less people. It's one of those laws that hasn't been revoked/re-appealed by the senate as an obsolete law due it's purpose being a for a lower population of around 150,000 or less in a given city. (Can't recall the correct population required to make it valid n open) Then again I did mention that to one of professor's back in 08-09 that according to law's it sounds like there needs to be a massive review some of these aren't applicable not sure why they haven't been removed or defined indefinitely yet, as not necessary for the times we are in now.
Exactly isn’t that what the second amendment was originally for? Protecting your home… it pisses me off how they can go around that and make they’re own rules that make no sense
Squatters shouldn't have any rights they're just breaking into people's houses stealing their property and living their illegally while also destroying the property and the neighborhood they're squatting in
I live in Porter near 494/Ford and my “neighbor” is exactly what he’s talking about. Homeless thieves found out about the abandoned property next to me. Sheriff wont do anything about it because the “homeowner lives in a different state and hasn’t trespassed them”.
Both GEORGIA and FLORIDA saw an issue (criminal opportunistic trespassers squatters, antiquated law) for those who put them in office they immediately solved the citizens problem. They signed the Anti-Squatting Bill that immediately gives authorities approval to remove and lock up any criminal trespassers. Squatting criminals should be charged with immediate FELONY and Minimum one year jail time plus restitution to the legal home and apartment owners. EVERY other Governor MUST immediately do the same with URGENCY. Legal Homeowners WHO pay the property taxes, mortgages, licenses, etc., to run these counties and cities are dying defending their legal property, like in New York, and others are going to jail trying to protect their LEGAL property. As well, Many have had to pay thousands of dollars in legal and repair bills. EVERY Mayor, Senator, Representative MUST take note and take IMMEDIATE action to protect the mom and pop homeowner, apartment owner, or small investor. The police have their hands tied without an active State Law in place to abolish criminal squatters.
If you're squatting in my house, you have no rights. You're getting TF out TODAY!!! Don't give a damn what law whatever idiot put in place. I'll take the charge.
Where I am in Okla, an individual must have running water (with a water bill) just to be in a house. Getting the city to enforce their own ordinances is a big problem as the average policeman is not a lawyer and is unfamiliar with all the city codes regarding trespassing, breaking and entering, etc. So they pass the buck and say " you must take them to court to evict them". City mayor wouldnt have this crap in his own neighborhood! Been there too many times!!!!
Just like other laws, it’s outdated. Squatters rights were intended for individuals to live on unclaimed property, not for people to say the property was unclaimed because it was on the market or vacant. The homeowners shouldn’t have to go through the hassle of taking it to courts I don’t understand why squatters don’t get trespassed or anything
And what about them living under the freeways, especially on Main Street under I-59 (one block south of Richmond) - it looks like a scene from a Civil War battleground! The zombies and the trash are absolutely breathtaking! And when the zombies cross the street to come up to my truck (at a red stop light), I FLOOR IT!!!
I think we have squatters in our neighborhood they took over a home in our subdivision and have turned it into a car dealership…thy took down part of the fence and you see at least 6 cars and pick up trucks parked in the backyard they park RVs I used to see many people there looked like gypsies … then out of nowhere .. gypsies begging for money on all four corners ..just horrible 😢 but now you just see the cars everywhere

This is an example of a failure of leadership in our states. After the first few times this happened the states should have immediately passed laws preventing it from happening and it should have only taken a few weeks to get it done.
I know the moral police wouldn’t allow it to be….but ask yourself how much of a problem this would be if homeowners were allowed to shoot squatters on site? This is a problem only because of the imposed policies that force the law keepers to jump thru several legal hoops while the law breakers get time, sympathy and they learn the process to abuse it. I thought Texas was better than this and immune to this type of bs legal impotence. I thought NOT having this squatting issue was one of the positives to the many negatives of the heat, poor utility management, the traffic and lack of a real transit or rail system FOR EVERYONE. But im starting to see different
The squatting laws in many states are holdovers from long ago when (mostly) rural properties were abandoned, such as during the Dustbowl era. Squatting allowed folks to take over an abandoned farm and get it going again, for instance. But that's not the majority of what goes on now, and the laws need to be changed to reflect the change in circumstances after so many decades have gone by.
Cudos to Texas for having much stronger laws regarding squatters as compared to other states including Florida. Never heard before that they both have to have lived on a property for a certain number of years PLUS had to have been paying utility bills, mowing the grass, etc. in order to qualify. I don't agree with the latter in that the title to a property should only change hands when both parties agree to that change, and not because someone lays claim to that property. Most squatters don't use utilities since those have been turned off by the actual property owners. So, that is not a good benchmark in my opinion. If a squatter is not paying the property taxes for all of those years, I don't see how they can claim that property as being their own. It is also great that Texas has a really good law concerning trespassing which is fairly easy to understand and enforceable if a property is posted for "no trespassing".
@cormaro13 I know like when the mayor came out and said that houston is broke but than we gonna be taxed for the firefighters back pay, home insurance is gonna increase by 5 percent and we are paying back center point 1. Million or billion dollars can't remember but Houston is broke so basically they trying to make one poor for their stupidities and poor decisions they made.
Sounds like Constable Garcia wants to do the right thing, and tries to as often as he and his officers can. Laws against squatting and trespassing need to be stronger in every state.
So many people don't have a place to go. Houses are left for years and nobody claiming them. They using them for shelter. Some place they have to go to court . I don't understand it
I’m not trying to classify everybody then the first thing he says his lawbreakers isn’t being on someone else’s property without their permission lawbreaking
I was skipping school in houston back in 1994. The cops kicked in the door beat the crap out of us and took us to juvi. I guess we should have said we were squatters
Wrong wrong wrong. I think the government should refurbish old prisons and military bases and create housing modules for the homeless. They have nowhere to go. That’s the problem they need somewhere to go. If not, they’re just gonna keep being shuffled around. 😢
So what is the grey area? Is it their right to shoot me if they claim my house? Because that’s pretty much what I get from squatters rights. If you can take it over it’s yours
Squatters don't improve life by turning deserts to green spaces, inventing new technologies in every industry, civilizing a barren destitute Byzantine culture into a modern productive democracy. Take your head out of the hookah pipe and read some history .
We already have law, there is no need for a new bill!!!! All they have to do is read the damn law!!!! It is the responsibility of the property OWNER to maintain their property ie no trespass signs, taxes and maintenance. There is good reason for squatters but these "new breed " squatters aren't doing it properly, therefore they are trespassing. You can't just roll up on some abandoned house and claim it as yours, there are laws to follow ALREADY WRITTEN IN THE CODES!!!!!!
Against squatters and not foreigners and private company buying homes and over selling them at ridiculous prices or renting them at hiked prices 🤦♂️ also dont let illegal immigrants the right to own or rent a home it should be only single family born citizens first.

As crazy as squatting is it is also crazy that sometime people disappear! 🤫

Since I don't really follow the law in ALOT of ways, my family will get rid of squatters under our laws. Thank you

Why do these 'animals' have rights ??
How is this a problem I am confused. How do they have rights. ?
