His explanation on power hitting with the heavy bag is exactly what Cus Damato taught on his Willie bag training. One of the best boxing instructionals on youtube..
people make the mistake of thinking everything new or modern is better. There is a lot of wisdom in these older tapes, especially when he refers to old timers! some things that used to be fundamental have been forgotten. However, they were fundamental for a reason. Resurrect them and the modern world trembles.
@@manrix could you please show me any link to download the entire archive (1-5)? I would be grateful. I could not get a hold of all but just this video. That's why i am asking for. Thanks
Greatly appreciated, essential for all young and new boxers to learn these fundamental, it will be beneficial for their development and future progress. thank you Mr Familton.
This has some great information in it. i was nodding my head every 10 seconds. lol Just practicing what's discussed in this video can make you a solid fighter in short order. These are tools you can use to control your opponent and the flow of the fight.
I would like to begin by saying that Mr. Don Familton is a marvelous boxing instructor. But, I find it curious that Mr. Don Familton claims that the Russian Boxing community incorporated the use of little hand weights into the shadow boxing segment of training. Actually, the implementation of wooden lightweight dumb bells (eg.,1, 2 & 3 pounds) in shadow boxing goes back to the bare-knuckle era in American boxing. These wooden dumb bells were used in conjunction with lightweight Indian Clubs (also 1,2,3 pounds as well) as part of the physical culture aspect of training/boxing drilling. The biographies of 19th century boxers such as John L. Sullivan and "Gentleman" James J. Corbett describe some of the training tools/systems implemented in the early era of American Prize Fighting.
Yes but the Russians are well known to have gone to extraordinary lengths during the cold war era, to find the exact science behind most Olympic sports and boxing was no exception. I doubt anyone studied that weighted punch technique like the Soviets did, there's no way
Don was the best boxing teacher. Most people don’t realize that boxing is a martial art. Every culture has their own martial arts and boxing and wrestling are ours.
I could be mistaken but I believe Straight Blast Gym is the direct descendant of Bruce Lee's student circle. Jesse Glover was instrumental in the spread of JKD and I've always believed Strait Blast was his dojo in Seattle. This is a generation removed but absolutely maintains the purity of the original teaching. This is a monster find. Thank you.
This guy is great regardless , I did boxing first ,then jkd/wrestling jap j.j I can see what your saying , I'm not certain however your right about this being a monster find .
These old guys ARE THE BEST BOXING TRAINERS IN THE WORLD. You can learn so much just LISTENING to everything he says .Awesome. Cus D Amato also springs to mind.
I’ve been in boxing class for a month now as a complete beginner , and I’m only 38 minutes in and I’ve already learned more about my basics than my whole time in class . I feel my coaches are training me to fight instead of teaching me to box . I want to learn the basics and fundamentals starting at feet , then working up . Head movement should only be applied once everything below the head has been taught and learned . I was sparring my 3rd class .. and I’m training the exact same as my classmates who are seasoned tournament fighters .
ALL THESE VERY MINUTE DETAILS VERY IMPORTANT.....MANY TEACHERS DON'T COVER THEM COMPREHENSIVELY ENOUGH!!! THIS GUY KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT! IS HE STILL MAKING VIDS??? THIS IS A TREASURE TROVE OF KNOWLEDGE....
Pep was a master at stepping in with the jab then weaving underneath and hitting you with a second shot or simply avoiding your counter and moving away.
Not even sure this is even in print any longer. I hope that SBG eventually digitizes it and makes some physical copies of it available again. This can't get lost in time.
WHEN THROWING RIGHT HAND ON BAG DO NOT LIFT REAR FOOT AS HIGH OFF FLOOR AS HIS STUDENT IS..... picture a cup of water on your rear foot ,as you lift foot only lift foot high enough to drive water{water represents power} forward with punch, if you lift too high you pour water into floor instead of into punch. imagine grinding sand under ball of your foot ,so push ball of foot into floor . such as a sprinter driving out of blocks propelling body weight forward, cheers
i like this guy he knows his stuff big time ive been training for 7 mths wacking bags and getting leathered around the ring a bit i like how he breaks things down id love to have him as my trainer but i will have have to do with the vids have used his crouch and cover in the ring countered of it and caught the guy with a big right also just by postioning left foot with left makes it harder to get caught with a right as my sparring partner said what was i doing didnt tell him.
