This is the BMW M5 CS… And it just might be the greatest BMW M car EVER created!
But what makes it so special, we hear you ask? Well for starters, the output of the engine compared to the normal M5 Competition has been improved. The 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 housed under the bonnet now produces 635hp - so 10hp more than the M5 Competition.
Doesn’t sound like much? Well trust us, we’re only getting started! Along with receiving carbon ceramics as standard, there are a number of chassis upgrades, such as being fitted with adaptive dampers from the M8. And of course, let’s not forget that there is a whole load of carbon throughout this car, including the roof & bonnet, so as a result, it only weighs 1,825kg!

What BMW has done with the 5 series platform is amazing. First it was the M5 then the comp and now the CS, they are on a roll.

What makes this car amazing, is how plain it looks but the fact that a large 4 door sedan can keep up or take out a super car is mind blowing.

I remember 15 years ago when I first learned how to drive sedans like this were hitting 100kph in 4.5 - 5 seconds and I thought that was insane. Even super cars at the time (Gallardo’s, F430’s, DB9’s) took 4 seconds. It’s crazy to think that now family cars can do it in the same time as the original Veyron.

This doesn't mean nothing, like the driving assistance of the Yaris, he mentioned. Included isn't automatically expensive...
The difference is when an option becomes standard its price will significantly be lower because of mass production and the production line getting less complex

Edit: The next gen M5 is still some years to go before being unveiled and not before the next gen 5 series which is probably going to be unveiled in 2023.

I'd love to see how the various 5-series vehicles vary, from the base model on up. 530i vs M530i, vs M5, vs M5 competition, vs M5 CS. Just to see how different they are and if they're worth the price
M540 & m550 are pretty nice honnestly dont need to go all the way up to a m5competizion
also ask yourself a question, are you going to track it? If not, where would you even use it's full power? Don't know where you live, but in Poland for example you get more and more unmarked police cars on highways. So big nope. And if someone's gonna buy the M5 either way, they rather don't think that much about how much it is worth if compared to lower trims.
So, there is no clear answer to "is it worth it", as it is way too individual

So basically the Competition is what the standard M5 should have been & the CS is what the Comp should have been.
The standard M5 does 0-62 in less than 3,5 seconds. The M5 Competition is a few tenths of a second faster, destroying it’s main competitor (the E63s). This car is a sub 3 second car, which is literally Lamborghini Aventador territory.
So no. The M5, the Competition and the CS are exactly what they need to be

Had a lap of the Nurburgring yesterday in this car, and wow just wow, this has to be the best M car ever. You would not believe a near two tonne, four door saloon could accelerate, brake and go round corners like this thing does, especially when your driver has had 25 years experience of the Nordschleife. Awesome, a word that is very over used, but absolutely correct in this instance.
Congratulations BMW, you nailed it with this one.
My favourite BMW after the E24 M635CSi which I own. Would love one of these in Brands Hatch metallic with gold brake callipers. By the way, Mat, the “gold-not-gold” you spoke of is actually called ‘gold-bronze’ by BMW M. Absolutely awesome car. This was a fantastic and enthusiastic review of the M5 CS, Mat. So glad you love the car as much as I do. Hope to get behind the wheel of one myself someday.
