  • After ordering an Ibanez Jem 77wdp (woody) from a Georgia Guitar Center I felt that I needed to complete the VAI-ESSENCE by fitting it with Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalt 9-42 gauge strings and a black Dimarzio cliplock strap to not take away from the absolute beauty of this instrument. I was skeptical about the difference some strings can make but Ernie sure made a believer out of me!

That's my son's favorite brand. He has a couple prestige and premiums. I actually like the 1070pbm s series more. Insane.

I was on the hunt for this for awhile. Finally got one. I too changed my strings and had to actually setup the neck adjustments and bridge. My bridge sits like yours. Not use to edge trem. Someone else said the bottom needs to be leveled not the top. Mine plays great and sits flat like yours. Super low action and plays great. Thanks for posting and showing what I believe is the best looking jem.

I have the same guitar, but I have an Ibanez Backstop just like Mr. Vai. It now stays in tune no matter what I do with the whammy bar!

Man I was thinking about starting a shop called "Cars & Guitars". All the men's men would flock to it. Hot Rods and Les Paul's and JEMS??? OH YEAH.

Sounds great 👍 I'll try to switch over and see if there's a huge difference in tone..I'm just stubborn, when I go into the guitar shop I just grab a couple packs of Slinkys

String gauge tension has either lifted or lowered the bridge and changed the relief in the neck i would think James. Nothing wrong with them chops my friend.

Actually my brother, unlike a Floyd,...that Edge trem has a beveled top and a flat bottom. The way it should be set up is,...the bottom of the trem,...should be even with the body. Or a 64th just below the body line. The top of the trem beveled as I said and should always set above or literally a hair below the body line. But I gotta say,....it sounds great. But after they get broke in they may start getting a tad buzzy. I could be wrong,..but congrats on the guitar.

My first edge trem. Mine is flat leveled with the top. Plays great but you got me thinking of redoing mine with the bottom leveled with the body since like you said the top is beveled.

@@jelmeromero Yeah its completely different from a Floyd in that respect. The main thing you'll notice if it's set up properly,..... the tension is much more comfortable and the bends are much smoother. Believe it or not,...it makes a big difference. I've set up hundreds of trems. I can tell you without hesitation that the Edge design is much better design than a Floyd. Now that said,....I prefer a Gotoh Floyd over all of them purely based on the tonal characteristics of that trem. Rockwell steel, stainless saddles, stainless pins. Its the S___T!! Anyway,...I wasn't trying to sound like a know-it-all,....I just know for optimum performance of your Edge trem you want the main bridge level instead of the saddles. Tuning stability should be better as well. Hope you get it exactly how you want it either way. If it plays great and your not bothered by it?? ,.....I would just leave it. It's just my OCD wont be allowing it for me.lol😁 Anyway,....I wish you the best of luck and hope it works out perfectly for you my friend. If you have any questions about setting anything up just shoot me a comment. Been doing set ups for many many years. Be glad to help if I'm able. Have a great day and God Bless Jelmeromero.👍
