the steam option in the walk-in shower... would that be for say making it a sauna-like area? that's pretty friggin' smart right there if that's the case

What I'm impressed with is that the size of the bathroom would be larger than the living space for 99% of humanity for 99% of time since our species differentiated from our ancestors.

I'm wondering, since free standing toilet tanks tend to get nasty, wouldn't these wall hung ones do it too?

Do you mean where the toilet meets the wall? A lot less eck there than where a toilet meets the floor. I noticed that some of the wall mounted toilets have a distinct bottom edge so the eck might stop there. I think that a bath mat under the toilet woud protect the tile and grout. It is a pain cleaning behind the base of a floor standing toilet and also the screw caps. And no caulking either. A wall mounted toilet and vanity would make it easy for a robot floor cleaner. We got one for Christmas and it can't get back there. This is a big deal for me as I am getting older.

I think he meant the inside of the tank. At least in hard water areas, there tend to be a lot of deposits and discoloration.

@@j10001 Wall mounted tanks are plastic, probably, anti-microbial. I've seen designers buildout a half height wall to house the tank. The top of the half wall is a shelf. I think they should do an episode on wall mount toilets.

@@j10001 Which basically have no effect on functionality. If you are fussy, the deposits can be cleaned up by dumping a gallon of vinegar in and letting it sit for a while. This isn't even a particular challenge for septic systems.

The real problem with the wall-mount toilets is servicing them. Everything about them is different than a standard toilet, and other than getting lucky and the plumber having the waxless foam gasket in his van, there's no chance he's going to have the parts to fix it and if something fails its out of commission for a while. They also require a thicker wall to handle the steel bracket and tank, and thats another factor as well. They're great for cleaning, but not servicing.
