I’ve always wanted to be a fisherman, but never had anyone to teach me how. I’ve been invited to go fly fishing with people and they set up my rig and tell me where to put a fly and I catch fish, but when I tried on my own I can never get anything. Thank you for making videos that actually explain every bit of trout fishing on rivers. Honestly, now that I’ve found your channel I feel like I know exactly why I never caught anything and how I can fix it. I’m going back to my old spinning reel, Fly fishing stuff is expensive. I’ll try out this new info I have, and give a update next time I go out.

I like watching your videos! I haven't been fishing since I broke my neck and have been practicing my casting to see if I could still do it. Fortunately i've figured a way to cast 30ft or so. I thought I heard you mention in one of your previous videos that you fish Oregon. I ive in the Oregon City area and was wondering if you knew of any fishing resources for people in wheelchairs? Ie. Accessible fishing docks or fishing spots. I'm in a powerchair so a lil rough trail is ok, but it's definitely not 4x4 approved. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Eli

I have been ultralight fishing for decades, I now keep a couple small ice fishing rods with some micro reels and 2-4 pound line for small creek and stream fishing, a 32 inch rod and a 22 inch rod fits great on my backpack without snagging on anything while walking.

I love that you promote the fisherman’s knot to get ppl in the water and fishing as ASAP. Only, I’ve lost so many casts for not (no pun intended) improving the cinch by running that tag back thru the loop. It’s not so easy, especially when I’m running out of leader and I didn’t bring my glasses. I’d ask that you shout out when you improve the cinch. I’ve learned that some braid slick won’t hold up to even nine twists on a fisherman’s “knot.” Great vid. Waters too warm in my parts to creek fish. Glad to watch this tutorial on such a classic and widely promoted kit that, when easily fished wrong, uninspires a repeat. Educate, entertain, inspire!

Just came across one of your Mustad bobbers today at Fisherman’s. Ended up purchasing 2, they look great, price was good, nicely packaged, and you even put extra tubing and o-rings (THANK YOU!)... I know it’s just a bobber but you really went all out on such a simple product. Testing it tomorrow, now that I’ve rambled on it’ll probably sink 😉.

Noticed you had a mini mag kit. This is how I fish the mini mag. Using a 5 wtf line leader to a 2 LB flouro tippet. Tie on #14-#10 hook and mini mag TM in your choice of color. Then pretty much fish like you are showing. Can fish up stream or down, change up color to see what the trout are hitting. Always catch some trout, alot days bunches. Never did I use the regular TM. Will try that in larger creeks. Thanks for the tutorial.

found a nice spot on the Clackamas last year; only difference was instead of a trout magnet i used a 1" powerbait nymph/grasshopper brown. Nothing the first few casts than wham! a pudgy 10" rainbow wouldn't give it up! tugged at it twice before inhaling it, took off down stream and went airborne twice before i brought him in. I later found out that a fly fisher using black micro nymphs had already landed 6 browns in the same hole before i got there!! he was pro, i am noob but i wouldn't trade the memory for any other.
P.S. you guys are great! ive been watching your vids for the past year and your tips/tricks have given me some great guidance, and encouragement to get out there when i didn't think the fish would bite.

Some days the trout can't eat the magnets fast enough and other days nothing. I use their method with the factory jighead and bobber. I like how easy it is to adjust depth quickly by sliding the bobber up and down. Pink for rainbows, white for browns, chartreuse for both plus brookies. When the magnets fail, I can always count on rooster tails.

For bottom bouncing we use 2 weighs, the 2nd weight is half way down the leader and should be twice the weight of the swivel and split shot. This will go through the water straight, with less tangling.

Not “trying” to knock your style because we all have our methods and having fun is what’s up! I really was just giggling at a lot of little things as you setup and worked the water. What state is this? Anybody? I’m a new subscriber so I’m clueless here.

Missed a damn 20+" brownie on a white trout magnet w/silver jighead today😭...fished with a relatively large bobber 30" up from the lure,,just toss the bobber in the current& that's it lol...Let it drift quite far away,,under structure/bridges/etcetera. The lure bumbles it's way across the bottom at just the right speed,& it kills.

Yah...up here in NW we use big magnets to catch steelhead.

Why use a bait hook instead of the jig heads the kits come with?

Are trout magnets one time use? Are they hard to pull past barbs?

    • @BC-ue3ku
      @BC-ue3ku 4 ปีที่แล้ว

You can keep them and re-use them. It’s just a silicone type soft plastic bait. As long as it’s not all beat up you can use it again.

Great video! But one thing I will say is, get your hands wet before handling that trout otherwise you will pull its protective slime coat from its body and if you toss it back in the water it can potentially get some type of fungus and die. Not a lot of ppl know this so I thought I’d let you know for next time, and if you are like me (catch and release guy) this is a great way to come back another time and catch that same fish.

Great video, but please remember to wet your hands before handling trout to be released. Better yet, use barbless hooks and remove the hook without handling them at all.

How do you remove the hook without handling the fish? Total beginner here.

I should be endorsed by The O'Jays buy now last 2 and 1/2 years I'm caught all my biggest route my first deal had 2 months ago that cop 3 Tiger Muskies on 6 lb test on crappie magnets trying to get trout all over 10 lb slab panfish perch big crappie anything you can imagine I even caught four and a half pound bass on these things is my number one go-to saying now for ease-of-use I usually drifted like 60% of the time with float. If I'm not using my own tied up little pigs are flies I'm using these things some guy had them on my local creeks and gave me a handful in the winter like 3 years ago, now I swear by and tell everyone to try them especially new people or not experienced fishers .

I never like a weight between me and the fish. I use a drop shot rig with a pencil sinker or an egg sinker above my swivel. With your rig you were probably getting hits you couldn’t feel.
