Didn't realise til making this vid that they not only upgraded the graphics but also made new scenes and angles to the cutscene, awesome
Ooo nice
Well blur cutscenes cost about 2 million per minute to make.
well yeah because they basically filmed the whole thing with mo-cap, and the original was made in-engine
@@MasterChief203 No they don't lol, apparently it's around 2 million per minute, not fucking 9.
@@Ripa-Moramee yeah. Just looked it up. My bad. It is 2
I still don't understand why they didn't make a Halo TV-show in this style. Much better than the Master Cheeks version we got now.
because the people who made the tv show are fucking stupid
The Halo TV Show would have been better with a Mass Effect Look.
So freakin true bro
Making these type of animation cost more money than Live Action T.V. With that high quality animation in that short clip that’s approximately would be almost $100k frame per second
@@coffeelink943 Holy cow I didn't realize it would be that expensive. In my mind actualy actors, sets, camera equipment and everything else needed to record a serie/movie would be more expensive than making animation but apparenately not.
Cortana: Squad 2 whats your status?
Squad 2: fucking badass and balls deep, over.
I love how the elite got noob-comboed, like the devs knew it was gonna be a big thing
it existed since ce, they knew it was OP lol
Halo 2 legendary would be just stupid without it lol, it's already unfair.
@@homelochino3864 It was trash in CE though, it was usually faster to just spam shoot elites with the plasma pistol vs using the noob combo. Halo 2 made it THE way to dispatch of elites.
@@Middleseed it was good for zealots and in mp
@@Ripa-Morameetrue that!
What 10 years of cutscene advancement does to an already amazing cutscene. The original was great, the remaster is awesome.
And you can't forget that Halo's style aged really well, too. Every aesthetic, from the armor, enemies, and setting, looks amazing in both H2 and H2A.
H2A really brought out the details they couldn't make back in the early 2000s.
👆👆👆🙏🙏🙏 halos style truly aged extremely well!!!
@@UGFluffyTurtle You could not convince me with a gun to my head that Tartarus is not an abomination and an affront to the very existence of eyes. He looks like somebody glued a bad Einstein wig onto a ninety year old bald homeless man, and then stuffed them into a bleached Wookie costume.
@@OGXenos ...his voice acting is good. 😀
@@UGFluffyTurtle h2a has a new style though, its not halo 2s original artstyle. they changed alot of assets to be those of newer halos, and in general completely overhauled the look. In the cutscenes its a great interpretation of the original style though, i wish the game stayed a little more true to it, especially in flood/tech forerunner levels
I think the most underrated part is how the remaster makes the crash look WAY more violent. The original looks extremely survivable because it looks really low-speed, which makes it more surprising that the windshield is covered in blood. The remaster makes it look like a miracle only 1 ODST died.
Don’t forget about the pilots though too. They be dead
2004 - “WORT WORT WORT”
2014 - “ruh”
the translation to english is hilarious 😂
Seriously, I was blown away when I realized they had remade it for the MCC release. This stands as further proof that Halo 2 is good enough to be a movie on its own if you fill in for the missions
Straight up halo movie.
Or the first 3 games as movies.
@@randyholcomb-3209 The original script that was written for the Halo 1 movie was incredible. We got robbed 100%!
Which one? The landfall?@@relativelyobjective6412
@@relativelyobjective6412 do you know where we can read that script? I remember being hyped the moment I heard about that movie way back when, then so bummed when it never happened.
The only inaccurate part of this cutscene is the fact that the jackle sniper doesn’t just immediately clown on that odst after he said that line by immediately doming him. Because if you’ve ever played it on legendary you know exactly what I mean😂
Maybe that particular Jackal was an odd one out within the Jha’kaar.
(For those who don’t know, the Jha’kaar was an organization of Kig-Yar snipers that had a specialty of making sniper shots that were considered impossible by sniper standards, the Prophet of Regret had handpicked those Jackals into his army during the Invasion of Earth and when they arrived at Delta Halo, which would explain why the Jackals had extremely accurate shots in Legendary difficulty.)
@@justinli5117Nah, he read the script, and luckily his cousin was his double to do the fall stunt for him
@Anklebiting man, leeave my blue elite alone1!1!!1!11!!11!!!!!1!1!
I think it was meant to highlight the fact that the dude was just that good of a sniper, taking out a jackal sniper like that
Blur Studios are gods.
Ten years later in 2024 it still holds up
you did not just say this came out ten years ago lol. ugh where is the time going? It feels like the original came out 10 years ago.
It’s interesting how the advancement in graphics from 2004-2014 is insane, but 2014-2024 is so minimal. Cutscenes with these graphics could come out today and I wouldn’t bat an eye.
@@matchington1148 You can only add so many triangles before you stop noticing and difference, after that it's just lighting and editing touch ups.
They really made the elite seem more like a tactical badass who was bested by other tactical badasses.
Especially with the angle of it activating the plasma grenade as he walked, looking at them and doing it by muscle memory.
The remaster is like frosting on the best cake you've ever eaten
FACTS
One nice little detail the remaster added is that Sgt Stacker switches his BR to semi-auto mode when he domes the Elite.
Oh my god the remaster looks like a movie
It truly does👆👆👆🙏🙏🙏
What a halo show should be.
Yes but paramount are a bunch of cheapies
Its always a neat detail that the two grunts that are up in the buildings that chief can run into are the ones from this scene kinda neat
I think the studio behind the cutscenes is Blur Studios. They also did Halo Wars 2. I just searched them up, and I didn't realise they did a whole lot of other stuff. They even do the Call of Duty CG cutscenes. They've done a few trailers for games, too.
I'd honestly love a TV show or even a film using the engine they used. I would also love to see them do Halo 3 anniversary cutscenes (I know that's unlikely to ever come out, but one can hope.)
I also want a Halo 3 remaster with these graphics!! hey, there are only 3 years left before its 20th anniversary!
Blur is like the Hans Zimmer of game cinematics.
'Dear humanity we regret being alien bastards we regret coming to earth,'' ''and we most definently regret the corps just blew up our raggedy ass fleet!'' ''OOH RAH!''
Ooh Rah !!!
“Cook the bastard” oh they cooked alright
This scene was the perfect introduction to ODST’s. Shows that they’re elite troopers and not just runofthemill dumbass marines, only one step below Spartans in their combat prowess. And the Blur cutscenes make it perfect.
I don’t even consider the marines dumbasses, they’re badass considering how motivated they are and how hard they fight considering they’ve been losing for 28 years
@@HanzTheODST up until this point in the games, in CE especially, the marines were presented as pretty incompetent, constantly getting killed or captured. You’re correct with what we know now, but like I said this cutscene was the first introduction to ODSTs.
Yeah except this was not the introduction to ODST's. Eric Nylund invented ODST's for The Fall of Reach, and after that they featured heavily in both The Flood and First Strike before Bungie decided to use them for Halo 2.
@@GalCon99 not many read the novels
@@HanzTheODST That is their loss, and doesn't make the fact less true.
They call him Sgt. Stacker 'cause he leaves a mound of corpses where he's deployed.
the pelican in the middle, "thanks bro..."
I love the changes to the cutscenes for sure, but whats most admirable in my eyws is how crazy of an evolution took place within 10 years of computing tech. The 2014 cutscene looks FILMED not Generated
Imagine if they made a mini halo 2 bonus campaign called “Hazard pay”
wait i never knew this cutscene existed in the first place.... really cool that it shows what happened to that downed pelican!
My halo 2 is so old, it doesnt even have that scene lmao
This isn't in the campaign... it was an extra included with the Multiplayer Map Pack. 🤦♂
@@Locutus494 thank god you explained this, because I was about to turn myself inside out with anxiety about my apparent memory loss
The studio that remastered the H2A cutscenes, Blur Studios, is one you probably recognize from a bunch of other stuff. They made the DOOM 2016 cinematic trailer, the Transformers Fall Of Cybertron trailers, the Titanfall 2 Bang Bang trailer, and a ton of others.
they also straight up did the cgi for the transformers movies by bay. Which where cgi bangers (at least the first 3)
@@MrMegaMetroid No the Transformers cgi studio is ILM, not Blur
@@RogueThousand wasn't blur involved? maybe i misremember but blur was involved into some movies i really liked, if not transformers then i forgot which
anyway, my bad. thanks for the correction👍🏻
@@MrMegaMetroid Blur might have had a role in some other TF property, but yeah they didn’t do the CGI for the live action films
Halo 2, ODST and 3 could literally be made into a full blown Movie with Scenes taken from the Gameplay
Why is this my first time ever seeing iether of these?! Thanks for the video.
Yeah, it's weird. Played through H2 the other day with a friend on Heroic and it wasn't in it. Maybe it's Legendary only?
They Contracted Blur Studios to do This and Halo wars 2 wish they would stick with them for Future games but god dam do i love this style
Blur Studios. They're *incredibly* talented CGI artists in the industry and have worked on a lot of big name movies and game trailers. When I heard they were remaking the cutscenes for Halo 2 Anniversary, I was so excited because I knew they would give us all something quality, and above and beyond.
No one in 343 deserves a raise
This is my favorite Halo cutscene ever. The remastered version makes it so much better as well
Two things they missed out tho: at the very end they didn't show the ODST kicking the elites body, and they don't show the dead elites hand slowly unfurling and releasing the sword, both of which were cool details in the original that add to both sides: the Elites massive hand even in death only slowly gave up it's mission and the sword self destructs, whereas the ODSTs show their fire by double checking the elite died and kicking a corpse.
Wort wort wort
finally someone gets it. wort wort wort.
go go go
Totally agree, you've definitely got a point.
Wort wort wort.
Wort wort wort indeed
Aaahhhh lohbaba
Well since it’s been 10 years I’d sure like to see a remaster of the remaster and see how big a step up it is on this one!
I don't remember the second half of either cutscene at all, but I recognize the dialogue.
I really felt it when that one sangheili said “wort wort wort”
This is why I love the Halo 2 remaster so much! It feels like I'm watching a movie and still looks amazing to this day! This is Halo done right! ❤❤
1:36 When you're playing as covenant member in legendary mode.
You had Sniper Jackal as your ally killed by your enemy...a Sniper ODST.
I believe that the entirety of the anniversary cutscenes are 🤌🏽*Chef’s kiss* excellent.
I like how the odst are made even more compitent like how in the original he just got lucky when he threw his hemet and hit the elite but in the new one he saw him for a second and threw it accordingly
Yup, Blur studios is absolutely insane. They also did article 9 in Rainbow Six Siege, and let me tell you, it looked completely breathtaking.
Gonna have a look at that for sure!
i swear its better than the show
Ah man. Cmon, this was so good. This sets such a high standard.
Going from remastered halo 2 to halo 3 was crazy
In the books that plasma pistol shot would have cooked the hostage medium rare.
This was at the height of the "big change" where the industry has something to prove to the gamers and truly pulled out all the stops to deliver and gain the hearts of their followers.
This is what also lead to microntransactions, and the industry abusing its players. Creativity used to rule over all until this industry became bigger than Hollywood
They really could make a movie with this style...
0:36
Worst part of the remaster
3:24
Wym, he got cheeked up
What; no "wort, wort, wort"?
Rest in peace, uncle Davey, you'll be missed 😢😢😢
that wasnt just mastered, it was completely remade. good shit
Love this but it was made after the game. It actually isnt in the game
Okay? They included content from an official map pack disc. Might not have been in the launch release but was definitely apart of the game.
Ooh OK I was wondering why I didn't recognise this cutscene lol thought I was going crazy
@@Syndicalism where can I find it on the MCC
Same. I was having a panic attack, thinking it was some Mandela effect thing
Piece of art
Nice move sir wow amazing work my friend 5:54 can’t wait to see what’s next?
Lol "buttkiss, you take point" 😂
Nah, that elite must be quite the disappointment. The dude failed to kill any of the ODSTs. Humiliating.
ODSTs are pretty badass themselves. It's shown repeatedly that they can take down elites. Elites even call them "imps", because they see them as basically weaker spartans.
A single ODST is usually not a match for an elite, but 4v1? Plus the elite got cocky, and at least a little bit unlucky.
0:16 OK but this transition is so fucking clean. They should have kept it in the remaster.
a new halo animated series or movie would be cool
Back when the cut scenes were consistent with the gameplay. Then 343 just said "whats consistency?" And had Spartans one shot elites with a pistol with shields 😂
I did not remember this at all. So cool
Blur studios was given 6 months to make all of the cutscenes and they weren't allowed to make the quality less than what they normally make
that explains why some of the cutscenes are fucked up, holy shit. Is any halo ever NOT crunched as hell??
@@MrMegaMetroid for that level of quality I said they outdid themselves for the amount of time they were given
@@LANGIMATION yeah my point was that Microsoft doesn't seem to be able to do anything without utterly abusing its employees or contractors
i swear someone needs to heavily restrict american mega corporations
@@MrMegaMetroid Which cutscenes in your opinion?
@@EvanCopp the one where they had to reverse the entire scene cause they accidentally made the phantom fly into the wrong direction so they reversed it and now its flying backwards
or changing the time of day from night to day, making the switch to gameplay really weird. theres a bunch of stuff
cant believe i own this and somehow didnt notice how much of an upgrade it was.
The Sgt's voice sounds an awful lot like CE Captain Keyes' voice actor...
I don't remember this. Guess I need replay the entire trilogy again
God I miss Bungie-era Halo
All these years an I've never seen the original
I love this game bro, this is the first game I played on Xbox
I forgot all about that scene. Need to get the original for pc and replay it.
Why dont I remember this...?
I've played Halo 2 dozens of times but don't recall 90% of this...
The Newb Combo rules all!
That would be Blur Studios.
If I could ask Microsoft for one thing it's to get this studio for halo 3. That or I'll pass because they really do capture the core pacing, cinematography, and creative liberties to make work in modern graphics
Everything looks so much better. EXCEPT the elite. He’s all bubbly looking
Hard to believe H2A came out only 10 years after the original...
i love how they kept the elites rank in the remaster and didnt change him to a zealot spec ops or ultra to fit the fact that he has an energy sword and camo. this elite needed a promotion lmfao
The person who made the original also deserved a raise!
remaster is better and not just by looks
edit: i have one problem with both. the elite's rank is minor, the elites have a rule that you have to be at least an ultra to be give an energy sword.
1:16 "Hol' up Let em cook."
lmao
The only thing that has always bugged me about this cutscene is that the plasma grenade would have melted through is helmet and into his head faster than he could take the helmet off.
I find it weird that they're ODSTs, but when you finally meet them in the game, they're just regular marines.
Have I been smashing the A button this hard for my whole life? I've never seen any of this before! All I know is the last line
Better storyboarding better end result
I agree
dam almost as good as the Halo tv show well done :D
When does this cutscene play? I played H2 as part of the MCC about a year ago, and I remember the pelican portion. I don’t remember seeing what happened to the pelican that goes down though.
It's an extra bit from Halo 2. Not sure how to access it in the original, but in MCC, it's under the "Extras" section IIRC
hot damn what a glow up
Big facts!
mmmm yeah, title says it all
I have no recollection of this cutscene at all! How did i miss this??
I feel the new one better.
All I ask is for the tv show or a game like this
there's so much i hate about this, like how the jackal just misses the guy peeking and then after knowing they're there, somehow takes even longer to take the second shot and misses AGAIN, then the plasma grenade taking forever to detonate in the remaster (ok it could have been a faulty grenade) but then last the elite just standing there instead of retreating with the hostage or ANYTHING, HE'S AN ELITE HE KNOWS WHAT A PLASMA PISTOL IS AND WHAT IT WILL DO TO HIS SHIELDS THAT ARE CURRENRLY SHIELDING HIM FROM THE BATTLE RIFLES but i guess the writes really wanted the rest of the ODST to survive so they sort of gave them super plot armor
the quality is amazing though, i just feel like the action shots don't really hold a lot of suspense when they just win so easily
That was 10 years ago... how would it look like now, rerendered?
woahhh, this cutscene in general is news to me! Is it a legendary thing?
I don't remember this cut scene! This was not the original opening that I remember. Am I crazy?
How do I have zero memory of this cutscene being in the 2004 version?!
I've been confused this whole time. Is this a cutscene that can be watched during campaign? I've never seen it nor been able to find it. Is it like a legendary playthrough only cutscene like the legendary ending to combat evolved?
It was an extra included with the Multiplayer Map Pack.
I feel like I've never seen this cutscene before, when does it play?
The original plays after getting a map pack and the remastered is found in Halo 2a's first secret terminal
What cutscene is this please ? E3 cutscene? Never see it in game
me not realizing the 2014 version was a remaster
Waiting for halo3 remastered
Fingers crossed we get it!
No. It's already plenty good.
