Thanks Stephanie for this amazing recipe. I am 8 years old.My mommy follows your recipes and makes me all sorts of delicious treats all the time. I love all of the treats you teach her to make.Even though I am 8 years old, I love your videos
Hi Stephanie. I made this today, appropriately so, because my niece arrived from Toronto. She loved it and said it was better than the ones she had there. She remarked on the lovely butter cream custard layer, saying that it stood out in its flavor. Thanks to you, I sourced Birds custard powder from the U.S. Thank you for being so inspirational!
I’m Type II diabetic , however I will try this recipe, as long as I keep active I’m burning off excess sugar. Stay Cool And Beautiful Stephanie . Best Wishes .
I worked at Tesla for 3 yrs and my coworker brought these in to share at our potluck. Well, she had with her an old news paper clipping of her grandmother who won the competition winning for the creation of the famous bars. At the time I didn’t think much of it but now that I see how famous these are I feel proud to have had them from the family of the original creator. Cool now I’m using this recipe to make them.
Hi Stefanie. Everyone loved the bars. However, the next day I received a lot of request for Nanaimo bar bottom layer only. My tasters said it reminded them of the chocolate balls we used to buy at the mall in the 70’s and to please make it for the Christmas midnight mass party on December 22, 2019. So I made double recipe of only the bottom layer of the Nanaimo bars. Added 120g of extra walnuts. Also used unsweetened organic shredded coconut (Anthony's brand on amazon) that helped cut down on sweetness. Then made another batch of only the butter, chocolate, sugar, egg and vanilla extract mixture (total of 3 chocolate mixtures). Mix all together following your directions, chilled overnight. The result is a very good version of the chocolate balls of the past. Moist, not too sweet, nutty, chewy, chocolaty and addictive. I could not stop eating them. They will be formed into balls then rolled in coconut, and cocoa and mixed red and green sprinkles. I’ll place each ball in mini paper cups. This is a big batch cause i have 250 guest. Freezes well and great to have frozen when I am craving for chocolate. Thank you again.
Your videos are the most professional, and most hunger-inducing...that I have seen. There are others that do quite well, but you have captured the medium. Thanks for all you do!
Ooh a bonus video! I love this recipe, I remember seeing you make these and have always wanted to make them which I will do soon. Thank you Stephanie .
I love all your recipes with coconut but haven't made these yet. Will have to make these soon. Will add these to my recipe app for the next time I am searching my coconut recipes. I don't have the confidence to follow many other bakers but yours are always a win.
You made these years ago and it was the very first video I watched of yours and I subscribed to your channel the same day I watched it. Thank you for doing this! I watch your videos all the time and really appreciate your dedication to this channel. Happy holidays!
Just doing christmas baking the first time this year, prolific cook but never a Baker lol. Anyways how you describe your recipe makes it super easy to follow, grams and cups. Looking good almost time for the third layer. Hope they turn out, as this is one of my favourite desserts of all time.
Love how you said, "Its a cook's treat!" Thanks for the cutting tips! Beautiful recipe! Love these bars! You have such a wonderful channel and so lovely to watch you bake! 🌷😊🌼
Thanks a lot for the detailed recipes. You are so loving and caring. Love the way you smile to yourself 🙂.. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Hi, Stephanie. Your Nanaimo bars look simply delicious. You are one awesome baker. What's your best tip for making the best chocolate raspberry cheesecake? I wish you a very Merry Christmas, Stephanie.
Thought I’d heard of just about everything sweet. Lo & behold, I’ve never heard of these! Totally new recipe for me! It’s so exciting to learn new recipes. Thanks for sharing this interesting & new to me recipe. Wishing you & yours a very happy holiday!
Never heard of these and was watching a series on Netflixs called Schitt's Creek and saw them on an episode and they looked so good and had a unique name so I looked them up and tried them. Extremely good and watching your video gave me some good tips.. THANKU
Birds custard is really the best! I haven't found it in US groceries stores yet, but I was able to order it online and it came perfect. Thanks for giving me a new recipe for these.
These are on my list to make soon, so glad to watch a demonstration on them. Thank you for all of your great recipes. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Ooo love Nanaimo bars I just ate one from our local grocery store in Vancouver, BC Canada but they are not same as home made. I'll have to try your recipe. They look so good. I have only made the vegan version also using Birds custard powder which is accidently vegan. The recipe is very close with replacements for the eggs and dairy. 😋😋.
Thank you yet another excellent video. Love this recipe. It reminds me a little of a bar her in England called a rocky road. Much love to you from across the pond, wishing you and yours a beautiful, happy and peaceful 2019 x
I have just found your channel, I am making your pecan pie for our Christmas dessert :) I love how you give so much detail, wishing you a very merry Christmas. Jackie from the uk.
Yum!! I love watching your videos, you’re desserts look delicious! I made your cocoa brownies recipe with chocolate candies on top. This recipe would be great with more bitter chocolate like a 70%.
hi .merry Christmas to you and your family, God bless you. you make amazing recipe, but I have a question about the corn starch isn't suppose to cock it you know the flavor of corn starch without cooking it test like flour. or you just add it to make it thicker. thank. u so much you are the best.
Hi Stephanie, when I bake something it's almost always one of your recipes. My friends think I'm really good at baking but I must say I owe a lot to your technique and recipes. I have a question about this recipe: are you sure that the middle layer should only be using 55 grams of butter? I made these and the middle layer was quite grainy even though I mixed it over 5 minutes. I researched other recipes and most of them have over 100 grams of butter for the same amount of sugar. How do you get a buttercream that's not grainy? Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for making a Canadian classic from a city I do love and that many Vancouver Islanders love to hate. :) . New York Times made a bit of a mess of these and I'm glad to see you did the no bake traditional recipe. Using sweetened chocolate and/or sweetened coconut can turn these bars from delicious to cloying so take Stephanie's advice and use semisweet and unsweetened. Another nice finish is a conservative sprinkle of coarse salt on top before the chocolate completely sets for some salty sweet action.
I would use parchment paper cut so that it hangs over two sides so it can be lifted also. I don't like aluminum getting anywhere close to what I'm going to put in my mouth - especially if I can help it.
Merry Christmas Steffanie and Richard and Family and the puppy dog . We both love your cooking segments. Have a Happy New Year and a great 2019. Can you do a large Pavalova. Love Chris and family. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕

how long does this sit fresh in the fridge ? I;m planning these for xmas so wondering if i can prep and keep these in advance for surprise guests :)
Is the buttercream grainy ? I always have trouble blending in powdered sugar so that the cream is smooth, any thoughts?
Really good
