Is it legal/realistic to get these on the road in California? I am absolutely in love with these things! But I fear California will say I can't drive one so as to protect the environment (all for combating climate change, but it seems silly that a low income worker can't drive this while some rich asshole can pay for a whole fleet of polluting semi-trucks to make him money to pay for his polluting private jet flights)

depends on what van and who is selling it and what condition. I've seen some for as little as $3000 USD and some as much as $20000 USD

Parts are available you just have to know how to get them. I guess any mechanic that takes pride in his work can work on it, i would not take it to Jiffy lube or something like that )))
I work on them all the time, and I'm not special. I guess if you blow the motor then it would be a different scenario, but changing a timing belt or spark plugs is the same as on any other car.

zakyum That *whoosh* sound? It's the sound of built-up air pressure from the turbocharger being expelled. All turbo cars do this, but a vehicle of this vintage won't have the modern technology that keeps the noise to a minimum.

lol so many lulz with this one. The way you pronounced "Atrai" sounds like "I try". This little van sure does try. Even have turbo blowoff. Sounds mean, but it is gutless compared to some modded JDM cars, but it tries.
The piggio porter is better 1300 cc 16 valve fuel injected five speed Suzuki engine very fast little van
