Imagine; This Feeling Nice, Pan In A Minor, Curry Tabanca in the same Panorama Finals. I was there live and direct. Possibly the greatest Panorama Finals I had the joy and pleasure of witnessing in my lifetime. Renegades arrangement of Pan In A Minor, Probably the greatest for a Panorama Competition and All Stars ground breaking performance of Curry Tabanca, you had to be there to feel it live. One of the best highlights for me as a panorama fan.
DEREK I totally agree with what you're saying...it was one of the best musical years by far! I was blown away by the standard of music from all three bands. It was a hard choice to choose the best one. I wasn't swayed by the politics at all. I had a great night also. The atmosphere was electric and the entertainment was on point!🎶
What about the 1993 finals? That was a very good year also. Allstars: Dus in Dey Face Phase II: Birthday Party Renegades: Mystery Band Exodus: Dus in Dey Face
I was there 2. I believe All Stars did enough to win it that night but they gave it to Phase 2. Probably they did that because they robbed phase 2 the year before
This tune will stay with me as long as i am on earth...Jumped with Phase 2 all over the west and was capivated again &again by the power and magnificence of a great sounding pan side and tune.......
This, IMO, is the best Panorama winning performance ever. Ironically, the best panorama performance I ever heard did not win Panorama, That was Curepe Scherzando's 1974 rendition of Shadow's "I come out to play", with which they won the North panorama, National semis and were a shoo-in for the finals until their trap set broke down and during their finaks performance and caused them to place last. Up to now I cannot find a recording of that panorama semifinals performance. I would give a lot to hear it again.
Every year we have this discussion about which band should have won. In most cases people feel that their favourite Band should win. That is why there are judges. Simply listen to the different bands and appreciate the contributions. In most cases, the arrangements that stood out that night are forgotten. Take Skiffle Bunch with Coffee Street. That song is still being planes in the USA and Europe. despite the fact that the band placed last in the final.
@0honey0U Ah well!! It's one of those things.. the same could be said of Phase 2 losing by the accursed 1 point to Renegades the year before when they played 'This Feeling Nice'. If you know pan live at all, you KNOW that TTT never really captures the fullness of the sound, so if TH-cam is all you are going by, you are under-served! But it was a great night for Pan and the dawn of an entire re-thinkof pan music - or music-for-pan- and I was there to experience the worthy duel. Long live Pan!!
ikr....dis arrangement is nice thgh...but fo me....is like n e ting jit produce have a flare bout it dat no other arranger ain hav....I cud b jus blinded bcuz I love jit a lot..but dis man is in a league all by he self....but i tink boogie did a great job wit dis tune thgh....jus I believe pan in a minor was much more vibrant n classy....again i say I cud b blinded bcuz I love jit arrangement better...comparing them I will clearly hav given jit. ...big up to boogsie thgh..he is also a class act
i agree while this is a great arrangement ,pan in A minor is the by renegades with Jit is the greatest ive ever heard it gives me goose pimplles and makes me cry like a baby everytime
How many band around the world have played this arrangement?.That's the question I always ask. The mark of a great piece of music is shown by the number of people who play it, verbatim. Every corner of the earth you find people playing Jit's arrangement of Pan In A Minor, that alone speaks for itself. Nuff Said.
@robbyphoto because this style of arrangement was a departure from other winning arrangements during that time. if you don't already have it, get the CD recording of the panyard practice sessions. Boogsie did some extraordinary work with the bass and middle pans that year. i'm not in the Phase II camp, but i can't argue with this victory!
You know the debates on this and every other year of pan will continue forever right? I take consolation in the comments of a stranger in a Phase 11 jersey next to me in the north stand who shook my hand after All Stars finished with Curry Tabanca and said.....'allyuh win'
Can anyone suggest some steelband music with good sound and visuals. In most of them the sound quality and the visuals leave a lot to be desired. (Which is a real pity since it is some of the best music on the planet).
boy me din born o was really young wen som of these panorama I watchn pass..so fo me to b able to see dem n hear it is enuff fo me.....i ain't complaining...

I feel the same way now listening to this music as I did 30 years ago. Good music but Renegades should have won that night!

And that ALL STARS arrangement of curry Tabanca... has become a classic. The more recent arrangement is amazing.
